I see, kind of a sitcom, about a family of homeless people...I see it now, the father, a well-meaning character who tries and ultimately fails at all his get-rich-quick schemes. The son, a stereotypical teenager who's always trying to gain the approval of his fellow urchins. The drama-queen daughter who's yet to learn the meaning of thrift. And the mother, the sensible one. I like it!
It'll be called "Skid Row", and feature a regular cast of as-yet minimally popular actors, as well as minor roles played by B-list celebrities. I'm working on the characters right now.
The son's name will be Johnnie, a boy who, although clever, is often a victim of peer-pressure, and throughout Season 1 spends his time attempting to impress TK, the mean-spirited leader of a leader of a local gang of street urchins, although his attempts often land him in trouble.
He doesn't go to school (because, as I've said, he's an urchin), but instead attempts to support his family with odd jobs here and there. He has a dedicated friend named Norman who attempts to dissuade him from the rough and tumble life of TK and his gang of hooligans.
The father's name will be either Yosef or Giuseppe, depending on whether they're Jewish or Italian. He's a hard-working peddler who is dedicated to making a better life for his family, but at the same time is a bit light-of-brain, and is often the progenitor of many a get-rich-quick scheme, all of which ultimately fail. Still, regardless of the fact that he is clearly the underdog, he remains a dreamer, acting as the undying voice of hope for his family/the audience.
The daughter (named Julie) is a bit more difficult to figure out, as on the surface she seems to be just another whiny, bitchy drama-queen teenager, but on the inside is actually a fighter to the end. She often complains about her family's economic situation, and when she gets her hands on money is often very frivolous with is, but when worst comes to worst and the family needs to work together, she pulls through harder than anyone.
She is often surrounded by her two friends, Sapphire and Loretta (I'll talk more about them later), and is often the victim of many a taunting from Chandra, a snooty formerly-homeless girl who has since made a better life for herself and isn't afraid to show it.
And finally the mother (named either Olan, Lucille, Brigit or Moldova), the sensible one, and source of wisdom for the family. Although short-tempered with a sharp tongue, she knows that she is the one responsible for looking after her husband and children. Her past is rather mysterious, but she is both street-wise, and surprisingly academic, considering she never had a formal education.
Although not a person you'd want to be caught on the wrong side of, she has nothing but love for her family, and would defend them literally to the death.
at first, I wasn't digging it...here is my spin on your idea...just take The REal World on MTV and instead of leaving the unedited stuff on there...we edit it to make it seem like they are being extremely raunchy and rude or downright crazy and we laugh our asses off at it...
While we're at it why don't we do something really unprecedented and take all of the reality shows on MTV, take them off the air and replace them with music videos? Now that's what I call pushing the envelope!
hahaha...nice...I actually don't watch TV anymore...I stopped watching it last year...my perspective on things has totally change in the last 2 years...I see TV for what it really is now...the media wants us to be monkeys just sitting there and being entertained all the while they are plotting and scheming behind the scenes...
I like C-SPAN... It's C-PAC up here. "Saucy Narration"? I am so in. Great video (again!)
