@crotchrocket74 prolly really late, but, yes, plasma can be used as a power sorce and as weapons. Weapons: high heat plasma can be fired at a target causing the target's electrons and protons to bond with the plasma, as well as transfuring a lot of its kinetic energy to the target causing it as well to turn to plasma.
@crotchrocket74 Energy: plasma can be used to positively or negatively charge particles (turning them into ions) which will donate or take electrons from other conducting particles, creating an electric charge.
@shadowfallon You have obviously made a mistake, because plasma IS in fact the fourth state of matter - where a gas has been heated up so much that it changes states again.

@21Radioman A bolt of lighting is nothing more than a large discharge of electrons. The power generated from a lightning bolt can be stored easy. The total Watts received from lightning isn't much. In fact lighting as a power source would be very inefficient that and storms are so unpredictable you can't farm it.
i worked at MIT as a janitor and one night while i was cleaning the classrooms i stumbled upon a mathematical equation on the chalkboard that could not be solved well i solved it and ended up becoming friends with robin williams and met this really pretty girl with a big jaw and i was sad because i was smart and wanted to be tuff and stuff i graduated from there after that this story is true btw
This is fake in order to create plasma you would need to super heat the substance. That meaning 27,000 times the greatest heat artificially created on the earth the same goes with pressure. I am a MIT graduate
I weep for humanity if you are the sort of people we allow out of MIT (which is bullshit too; or you simply attend the university as a janitor - and thus cannot bear the title of "graduate")
Plasma can be witnessed in many forms and for various uses, from common and mundane things as certain types of welding torches and flourescent lightbulbs, to use in arc discharges; where temperatures reach heights that melt rocks containing aluminium-oxide to extract aluminium.
@gilbondfac Although plasmas are usually associated with high temperatures, in '99 a group of researchers at the National Institute of Standards and Technology successfully created an ultracold plasma by cooling xenon atoms in a magneto-optical trap and then photoionizing them just above threshold . The resulting plasma had electron and ion temperatures of only 100 mK and 10 μK, respectively. So you are saying you developed this prior to these findings in '99?
@gilbondfac If you can be bothered explaining, Cold Plasma? . So what's the difference between hot plasma and cold, other than the obvious temperature. I already have a basic understanding of what plasma is and how it is created.
@SkullKing11841 hot plasma seperates the electrons from the atom by vibrating the particle too fast for the electron to stay put. cold plasma uses high currents of electricity to force electrons out of the atom. the glow you see is produced by the photons of light that are released when an electron seperates from an atom. depending on the atom's type and the current passed through it, it can be many different colors.
@xraptor103 An MIT graduate would know basic grammar conventions, you fool. He/She would also know that plasma is used everyday in many manufacturing processes.
@xraptor103 Ionized gas is plasma, nowhere in the physics books does it say it has to be super-heated to 27,000 times the highest pressure and temperature we can artificially create on earth. I can make plasma in my microwave oven. MIT graduate my buttocks.
@xraptor103 You need to go back to school. They gave you a dimple-oma as a joke and you thought it was the real thing. Or did you just forget - before you put foot in mouth - I mean fingers on keys- that there are different kinds of plasmas... put this in youtube.com and watch! v=QuRa-j1POxM I suppose you'll say this is fake too... "There are none so blind as those who choose not to see."
@xraptor103 MIT, how do plasma arc welders generate plasma. They use artificially(man made) heat to weld metals. And you can buy one at the local hardware store(on Earth) and use them at normal atmospheric pressure. And yes they generate Plasma. MIT may require you to display a disclaimer when you comment on scientific topics, stating that the opinions stated are of the user and do not necessarily relect MIT's position on such topics.
@xraptor103 you fail, plasma is found naturally in lightning, the auroras in the upper atmosphere, and in neon lights, it's not heat that causes plasma, you need a whole new element to seperate it's electrons from the nucleus. that would be electricity, the charge causes electrons to flow freely through the particles, basically its a gas, with the electrons nolonger bonded to the individual atoms. another way of creating plasma is a static electric shock.
@xraptor103 just so you know if you lower to 1/10th the amosific preshur at sea level and use a gas say argon you can make a serrface plasmon on gold and other elments with low heat comparitvley in fact thats how i do it in the lab i worded at when coding samples with less then 50nm of gold and siver for TESTING.
