Why did u make the dog go in the kennel? That's kinda mean. Maybe u shouldn't leave the cat treats out. Any dog would o that. He's just being a dog and your penalizing him for it. Smh
@evetodew - I agree with someone else. Either you don't own a dog or your dogs are wild. You don't have to beat a dog for them to know they've done something wrong. Dogs want to please their owner and make them happy (proven by several animal trainers), so when you express disappointment and talk to them in a serious 'I don't like what you've done' tone followed by a punishment of a time out in a kennel or designated spot, they get it.
Haha Awwww. I think the music made it that much more Awww. My dog is the same way. All I have to do is gasp and say Daisy! all surprised and disappointed and she goes to either her kennel or her chair. And no, I've never beat her.
Haha :) My dogs the same, if he does something wrong he wont face us and run in the toilet :) Or if my mum is telling him off he'll come to me, and when she's not looking I'll give him a few hugs and kisses haha :))
this dog definitely must be beaten sometimes. Dogs don't understand guilt unless you impose it to them. They are purer than humans. Humans only impose guilt on others... Poor dog... I don't like this video.
@evetodew : Obviously you don't know alot about dogs. We have never beat our dog and he knows exactly how to be guilty. All you do is talk to them in a negetive voice and point to what they've done and they know they've done something wrong. Dogs are smarter than you think. To get sympathy my dog always lifts his paw, we didn't teach him that. So you don't have a reason not to like this video, get some humour.
lets stop projecting human traits onto dogs. it works sometimes, but c'mon folks get real. they are dogs, and as much as we love them, they are not human.
BAD BOY! its kidna messed up that a owner of an animal that needs to live INSIDE A FUCKING house is send into "penatly box" for eating.. fucking humans
@owner0007 the penalty box is her kennel inside the laundry room. she ate the cat treats, which isn't allowed. oh, and by the way, she ENJOYS going to her kennel, it's just like getting told to go lay in bed for a few minutes when you steal your neighbor's TV in the middle of the night.
I had a yellow lab for many years. He passed away at 17. But he used to have the same grin. All I had to do was say Cheese It! and he would. Boy, does this make me miss him.
The dog is definitely smiling out of guilt. But it's also a submissive smile. For the guy saying we can't assign human emotions to dogs, yes we can. watch the National Geographic special about dogs. @yamnjam Animals don't have souls...there is no dog-heaven...or any heaven for animals...they have spirit = life, but no soul. And I say this on the grounds of there never being a mention of a heaven for animals in the Bible...if you base animals having souls on anything else besides the Bible I rest my case...and have no other arguments.
@domtom010 Uh, I never mentioned the Bible! Where's your proof that dogs have spirit=life? You have none. It's obvious you looked at my page, see I'm a Christian, and simply can't hide your bigotry, hatred, and intolerance toward those who have faith. I NEVER said anything about heaven, the Bible, etc. You did. I pity you, b/c you hate a God that adores you. Too bad. You had a Pavlovian slip (how ironic). I have all the proof of heaven I need when I look in my doggies eyes. Case closed
@yamnjam - Yamnjam, you BESS not be biggin' up on us, yo! lol Just kidding.
I agree with your point. Just because a bible doesn't mention dogs having souls, doesn't mean human beings are the only ones to have them. The bible says snakes eat dirt and talk... but they don't. Hmm.. I'm not sure the bible even mentions SLAVES, homosexuals or women having souls, either. lol So.. uh.. yeah, I rest my case. x)
@YourDarkAccomplice Thx for agreeing, and adding more useful info. But my MAIN point is that I NEVER wrote anything down about "the Bible says" or "heaven" or any such thing!!! All I said is I think dogs have souls. I still do. Oh, and btw, by mere coincidence, I do believe all dogs go to heaven. Sweetness is sweet. In all it's forms.
@yamnjam - Ah, I see. All I know is that that other person brought it up when talking to you, so they made it seem like you did try to use the bible to justify the logic. Weird. lol But yeah, love/family/friendship/etc surpasses physical boundaries. <3
Crysania4, dogs do grin, and I would bet that your dog has a much more relaxed type of grin, with lips loose, etc. than this dog. One of my dogs has a grin like that (loose and relaxed) too. I've worked with lots of dogs and studied canine communication a lot - the grin on this video is more of a grimace due to anxiety. I used to think I knew dogs well until I began learning their body language in detail - very eye opening, and my dogs are the better off for it!
Please study a bit about canine body language and communication.. These dogs are responding to the tone of voice and know they are in trouble, but almost certainly don't know why. Furthermore, the smile is actually a submissive grin that signals extreme anxiety. I have seen it on the faces of rescue dogs who are extremely uncomfortable with a particular human interaction. Don't take my word for it - read or watch Turid Rugaas or Sarah Kalnajs - it'll open a whole new world, as it did for me.

@KatmaiKid While I agree with some of your point, that grin does not always mean extreme anxiety. My dog grins like that when she's getting her belly rubbed and it means she's very happy.
Since we know nothing of the real situation here, there's not much to comment on. For all we know this could be a trained behavior to a hand signal or the words he's using, something he's created in order to set this up. Somehow that seems more likely to me.
As a fellow owner of two labs who CAN"T resist stealing a treat, I loved it and laughed till I cried! I'm quite sure he is loved and alos loves his owner. He's jsut a little naughty..........
Please, this is not abuse. Discipline is not abuse. To say so, you are doing a disservice to Denver. The dog is smart and definitely smarter than some of your commenters who say this is abuse.
I own two Goldens and they are the light of my life - I put their health and happyness ahead of myself. I say that to say this - this is NOT an abused animal. This is a bird dog working it's owners. And it's very good at it. An abused animal would freeze up and pee all over itself. Listen to the owner's voice - there's no way this guy has ever been mean to these dogs. Christ, i don't think he's ever been mean to anything. Sometimes I wonder what the hell is going through people's heads.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Not cute, nor funny. Dogs don't have the mental faculties to respond to what we call "guilt". We need to stop making those foolish assumptions. It is obvious the human in this family has behaved with anger in the past when this has happened, and the dog is frightened of the man. I don't think it is very charitable to make a dog upset just to be able to post a so called "cute" video either.
@silverfluteplayer BS, I've got a dog who gets upset when we have people meet at our home then go out to dinner leaving her at home, walked right before we leave her with toys & treats, we have come home to find the covers on the bed pulled back and a big pee spot in the center of the bed. This is not a once or twice it's every time. She doesn't get hit or yelled at she feels guilty when we come back and find the bed, she's sitting there hanging her head. She makes a similar face to Denver.
HAHA...that dog is awesome. You can tell he/she is a good dog and loves the owner because he wags his tail when the camera pans to him. What a cute puppy. I'm guessing the complainers are PETA members since they are against dog ownership anyway.
I LOVE this video! My dog isn't abused, never has been abused, and she makes that exact same face, showing the teeth like that, when she does something wrong and I confront her with it by showing her the evidence. Come on guys... Not every human is a bad human.
Dogs are pack animals who instinctively live within a social hierarchy. This dog knows who the"alpha" is in her"pack". I seriously doubt she's ever been abused. On the contrary, it appears that she lives in a kind & caring household that believes in setting reasonable limits. My golden retriever who, indcidentally, could be the twin of the one in this video, has never been treated unkindly, shows very similar submissive behavior when she's done something she's not supposed to do.

You don't have to abuse a dog for them to be well trained. My golden does the exact same thing when she knows she is busted (sans the face...that is hilarious). She has also been trained to respond to a very calm and quiet voice seriously. I don't yell at my dog. I have never even thought of hitting my dog. But she knows, for example, that she isn't suppose to be in the kitchen. If I find her in the kitchen, she takes a very passive posture and usually puts herself into time-out.
OMG I can't begin to absorb that people think this is cute. The man is sickening with that sugar soft voice. The dog followed an instinct and ate a few treats - poor thing has to live with a passive-aggressive creep.
Aww. Such a sweet dog who obviously knows she's been caught. Having had labs and lab mixes for years, I love their expressions when they get "busted". She is working "the look".
And for the folks who think this isn't funny- lighten up already and get over yourselves! Denver and her pack (Macy the other older dog and her two owners) were on GMA. She is living the life and has a wonderful home. There are plenty of dogs in shelters who should have it so good.
I fully concure with AaseLange. This is not funny. That is one stressed dog. You really need to look up the work by Turid Rugaas on Calming Signals to understand what this dog is trying to say - it has nothing to do with guilt, but rather with plain fear of potentilly aversive behavior from the human.
For all of you saying this isn't funny - obviously, this dog hasn't been abused. She knows she did something wrong. The owner isn't mad at her, he doesn't yell at her, she's fine.
@SikozuBeeBear No, this behavior does not indicate guilt, this behavior is a submissive grin and only indicates that the dog is very fond of the owner. The problem with this video is that it mis represents canine emotion. They do not think like we do. We cannot apply human emotions to dogs. You have about 2 and a half seconds to correct a behavior, after that the dog is reacting to your behavior, not his. I doubt the dog has been abused. It is an example of anthropomorphazising.
This is not funny. I see a very uncomfortable dog showing a ton of appeasement signals (frantic wagging, crouching, look-aways, submissive grin, blinking, lip licking) trying to get out of a confrontation. We absolutely don't need to perpetuate the myth that dogs show their "guilt".
Ohhh....bless his guilty heart. The look alone is enough for me, I wouldn't have punished him further. BUT, then he'd know "the look" would work in his favor so.......
Denver, were you advised of your Miranda rights? Don't say a word! You are innocent until proven guilty. He has only circumstantial evidence and don't volunteer DNA, make him get a court order.
So cute I found this video by asking about it on the john carrie and moor green song page, and they told me about this videe lol and its so cute !!! love it ^_^

I'm sure she has a great home, and is loved very much, but she is showing a number of stress signals. She is responding to handlers voice and tone, not being "guilty" over doing anything. Makes for a cute video for people that aren't very knowledgeable about dog behavior or communication, but I imagine she'd be much more happy if her owner learned more about canine communication. I've learned the hard way, how important it is for us to pick up on these.

And I say this on the grounds of there never being a mention of a heaven for animals in the Bible...if you base animals having souls on anything else besides the Bible I rest my case...and have no other arguments.
domtom010 11 months ago
@domtom010 Uh, I never mentioned the Bible! Where's your proof that dogs have spirit=life? You have none. It's obvious you looked at my page, see I'm a Christian, and simply can't hide your bigotry, hatred, and intolerance toward those who have faith. I NEVER said anything about heaven, the Bible, etc. You did. I pity you, b/c you hate a God that adores you. Too bad. You had a Pavlovian slip (how ironic). I have all the proof of heaven I need when I look in my doggies eyes. Case closed
yamnjam 11 months ago
@yamnjam - Yamnjam, you BESS not be biggin' up on us, yo! lol Just kidding.
I agree with your point. Just because a bible doesn't mention dogs having souls, doesn't mean human beings are the only ones to have them. The bible says snakes eat dirt and talk... but they don't. Hmm.. I'm not sure the bible even mentions SLAVES, homosexuals or women having souls, either. lol So.. uh.. yeah, I rest my case. x)
YourDarkAccomplice 11 months ago
@YourDarkAccomplice Thx for agreeing, and adding more useful info. But my MAIN point is that I NEVER wrote anything down about "the Bible says" or "heaven" or any such thing!!! All I said is I think dogs have souls. I still do. Oh, and btw, by mere coincidence, I do believe all dogs go to heaven. Sweetness is sweet. In all it's forms.
yamnjam 11 months ago
@yamnjam - Ah, I see. All I know is that that other person brought it up when talking to you, so they made it seem like you did try to use the bible to justify the logic. Weird. lol But yeah, love/family/friendship/etc surpasses physical boundaries. <3

It was a set up. I bet the cat is laughing its ass off.

I cannot get enough of this. Denver reminds me our our dear departed Edie. We have labs and they are so expressive. THANKS!

The dog is smart and definitely smarter than some of your commenters who say this is abuse.
hklad 11 months ago
I own two Goldens and they are the light of my life - I put their health and happyness ahead of myself. I say that to say this - this is NOT an abused animal. This is a bird dog working it's owners. And it's very good at it. An abused animal would freeze up and pee all over itself. Listen to the owner's voice - there's no way this guy has ever been mean to these dogs. Christ, i don't think he's ever been mean to anything. Sometimes I wonder what the hell is going through people's heads.

Not cute, nor funny. Dogs don't have the mental faculties to respond to what we call "guilt". We need to stop making those foolish assumptions. It is obvious the human in this family has behaved with anger in the past when this has happened, and the dog is frightened of the man. I don't think it is very charitable to make a dog upset just to be able to post a so called "cute" video either.
silverfluteplayer 11 months ago

If I find her in the kitchen, she takes a very passive posture and usually puts herself into time-out.

omg people chill out, our dog does the same face when we ask where the frizbee went. this video is halarious...not abusive so hop of PETA's grundle
hightide791 11 months ago
OMG I can't begin to absorb that people think this is cute. The man is sickening with that sugar soft voice. The dog followed an instinct and ate a few treats - poor thing has to live with a passive-aggressive creep.
georgetterm 11 months ago
There are plenty of dogs in shelters who should have it so good.
iluvlabbies 11 months ago 10
I fully concure with AaseLange. This is not funny. That is one stressed dog. You really need to look up the work by Turid Rugaas on Calming Signals to understand what this dog is trying to say - it has nothing to do with guilt, but rather with plain fear of potentilly aversive behavior from the human.
musicofnote1 11 months ago
For all of you saying this isn't funny - obviously, this dog hasn't been abused. She knows she did something wrong. The owner isn't mad at her, he doesn't yell at her, she's fine.
SikozuBeeBear 11 months ago 51
@SikozuBeeBear No, this behavior does not indicate guilt, this behavior is a submissive grin and only indicates that the dog is very fond of the owner. The problem with this video is that it mis represents canine emotion. They do not think like we do. We cannot apply human emotions to dogs. You have about 2 and a half seconds to correct a behavior, after that the dog is reacting to your behavior, not his. I doubt the dog has been abused. It is an example of anthropomorphazising.
MrTSFunny 9 months ago
This is not funny. I see a very uncomfortable dog showing a ton of appeasement signals (frantic wagging, crouching, look-aways, submissive grin, blinking, lip licking) trying to get out of a confrontation. We absolutely don't need to perpetuate the myth that dogs show their "guilt".
