With Army and Marine units being stretched thin, do you see the Navy putting sailors into combat situations do help with the strain? I know Marines get Navy corpsman, but could regular sailors be fighting in combat now?
@kylemas2005 No. The Naval Infantry was used in the Boxer Rebellion they're no longer used. As for current war's the Special Warfare Community (IE, SBT's, SEAL's,etc.) are actively engaging on the various rivers in Iraq.
@kylemas2005 ...theres already a program for this where members of the Navy can volunteer to serve with Army units in country ...I forget the name of the program. Ive seen a few since ive been in the army they wear the same uniform but their nametape says US. Navy and they have Navy rank.
@kylemas2005 Most of the people Ive seen or heard of are medical.....corpsman or nurses serving in field hospitals but I have heard of people serving with engineer units and even infantry....guess it depends on what your MOS or job is and whats avalible
The PBR men are real heroes, not the scumbag "reporters" who lied about the war 24 hours a day. My hat is off to them. My history teacher said that the VC WON the Tet Offensive. At least this video is out there and she can't do shit about it.
@starlionblue, What kind of shitbag history teacher do you have, she needs to go back and learn a few things about military history and strategy, strategically we destroyed the VC and NVA during Tet, look at the battle at Hue, we were caught off guard but once we got caught up the casualties for the enemy were enormous, fuckin schools today.
@armor452 Revisionist history 101. The US invaded Indochina! (Just kidding) After WWII the US drove the Japanese out and returned it to the French which pissed off Uncle Ho they drove out the French, in 1958 "Advisers" helped the South to keep Communist at bay, 1965 an "attack" on a US Navy destroyer became the catalyst for L B J to send in the 1st Cav. (Air Mobile) the rest as they say is history
The US won most of it's battles in Vietnam (apart from one where the enemy sent amphibious tanks through terrain the US army deemed impassable and nearly killed off a ranger camp.
But they didn't win the war. COIN tactics were required, but not well enough used. Unfortunately the same thing then went on to happen in the mideast.
I need to use this and part 1 for a very important project

How many sailor's saw combat in Vietnam? I was always curious about because it seems most of the documentaries were focused on Army and Marines.
kylemas2005 1 year ago
@kylemas2005 there were approx 2,500-3,000 that I know. Check with the Navy web sites for accuracy.
