  • can't wait to see um in limerick

  • I'll be looking forward to see the original 'cast' in the Belltable Limerick this weekend. Is Cha actually going to sing after all these years ?? Hopefully a few of the oldies will be played. It's a sell-out so it's obvious there's huge goodwill for 'The Intentions' or 'Grannys Intentions' or 'The New Grannys Intentions' - whatever your fancy. Break a leg guys.

  • To The Light - shining on Granny's Intentions in the Belltable, Limerick - 28 & 29 Oct - book 061 319866

    From outside Ireland dial: +353 61 319866

    Jack C

  • True. Granny's Intentions - Belltable, Limerick in October. Book early as the hall only holds 200 and the last Granny's gig attracted 3000 plus. The show will concentrate on Johnny Duhan's song cycle TO THE LIGHT, which was inspired by the band's years tilting for fame and the girl. The show will also include The Story of David, praised in the RTE Guide 1967 by none other than Terry Wogan as "undoubtedly the best record ever made by an Irish group".

  • to thesodacake...they are all in their 60's now...no longer lads...but I do hear there is gonna be a reunion concert in Limerick.....

  • great music need this kink of stuff back in the charts

  • great tune get back recording lads we need that kind of music back in the charts

  • This is brilliant. I have been looking for this as I lost my old Decca/Deram 45 version of it. The TV club was where I went to catch these guys, along with Mo Jo and The Uptown Band, The Method and Orange Mavhine. I came across a compilation album in London some years ago, with all these great bands on it, but was broke at the time. anyone know anything of it?

  • i grew up on this band they knew music,,,,mr duhan cool dude

  • The B side to this is amazing too, if anyone has it to upload?

  • Great to hear from you, Jack. I remember your band well. Great music

  • Great song! I love the Honest Injun album and it's great that some of the members are here to comment. BTW, a friend in Limerick recently got a taxi driven by one of the Granny's, who played the album for him in the cab - he loved it too!

  • Takes me back to my early teenage years in Limerick! Sweet memories!

  • @bill666able. Me too. I was all of 14 when I used to go to the Franciscan Hall. I had many a wimpy burger with Gary Moore In the Wimpy Bar. Had chips and coke in the Continental coffee bar with Joe (fiddle player that tried out for Granny's). Well, and a bottle or two of Bulmers cider with my girlfriends prior to going to the dance. Anyone remember the Rake and Ramblers from Dublin? Good Times, great memories.

  • Hi Jack, found all the singles on youtube.

Enjoyed listening to them all. Great to hear the big brother again.

The Outfit reunion is there as well.

Come on the Grannys!! Brill!! Ger

  • Thanks younger and much more talented brother. This whole thing has taken on a life of its own. But its very heart warming never the less. I'm in NY for Frank's memorial. talk soon. I'm off now to see the OUTFIT reunion. Jack

  • Just in case anybodys interested, I posted up 5 of the tracks from chris farlowes "art of " album which Johnny sang on stage.

Check out "grannys intentions / chris farlowe", they're all there.

  • No actually. As far as I recall, Granny's only did one song by Chris

  • To Jack49c & Johnny D: Looks like I usurped my teen daughter's YouTube name 'Violetti' when posting comments. But now I have my own username etc. Amazing to hear from you like this Jack .. maybe like yourself, I'm getting hooked looking at 60's music on the Tube - we heard more than we saw then and it's hilarious now. Johnny: my old ma (God rest her) was the one who interrupted you from the front row of Belltable with a loud "good man yourself !" She loved your songs and talk, like we all did.

  • Ta. I'll be back at the Belltable next year, hopefully, on my Voyage tour. Might hear your Ma shout up again. Tell her I was asking for her.

  • before anyone corrects me, I know it was 40 years ago.

    Old age, soft brain etc.

  • I think it's great you guys found this song... a lot of info is now in the comments, so thanks to all of ya! It great to hear about these bands again...

If you could upload some more songs by 'em I'd love to hear it!

  • Hi Jack, did'nt mean to leave you out of the last writeup, but I'd used up all my charactor then stopped to watch RTE program the north. I had you earmarked as the bass player, so went back to the early writeup to see I was right.

You guys gave us such a buzz back then, and the memories are quite vived 30 years later. I have often thought of having a reunion of any of the flamingo heads to have a grannys music night, but typically life happens while we make other plans.

    Thanks again.

  • Johnny, sharkface is a you tube handle I use. I was part of a crowd who discoved you guys,+ tamla motown music and chris farlowe among others in the flamingo club, O'connell st. You had a regular slot there, though we followed you to many other gigs in dublin.

Among our crowd would have been, Gene Bolger, Derek Gibson, Sean Byrne,Agnes and Mary O'reilly, Cora ?, Pat Byrne, Marie Grouse, and others who's names I cant recall.

Typical sat night, front stage as you belted out SOS, bernadette etc

  • Hi Johnny, I didn't realise my comments would arouse any interest. But its great to know that we created some good memories. Thanks for all the other comments. Yes Violetti, I did play around as a kid in Sexton Street but I've recovered in the meantime. Great to hear from you. Sharkface thanks for being one of those amazing Dublin supporters who gave us so much, you were amazing.

  • Hope life's being kind, Jack. As kind as it can be at our age. Yes, nice to hear The Story up here. Hope some of the other Granny's hear it too. I'm trying to remember Sharkface but I'm sunk on the name.

  • I checked out Chris Farlowe on you tube and none of his "art of" is listed so I guess I'll have to upload a few tracks and see what grannys fans think.

  • I used up too many charactors, last time, so here goes again.

    who remembers,

Cause I'm your baby you're so good to me.

    We're doin fine.

    So lonely without you.

I'm to do what I want.

They're all on the art of Chris Farlowe album I have.

A gret trip down memory lane.

  • Sorry Sharkface, I lost my last response. New to this. Thanks for the memories. Thanks to the Granny's also. Hi Jack.

  • Well heres a blast from the past. I was a huge fan of the intentions before they became the grannys. I followed them all over dublin and felt priveliged to have been around at the height. I was one of the crowd at dublin airport on their return from their first stint in england.

A few years ago I located a copy of the art of chris farlowe, on which are a lot of the songs the grannys made famous in Ireland.

    Who remembers songs like,

I've been lovin you too long.

    It was easier to hurt.

  • To Jack 49c ... I'm nearly certain we used to play around as kids in Sexton Street CBS Limerick. I remember you were a cool dude as they say today but delighted to see that you're 'going through some music' with your son. My teen daughter loves 60's music and has my entire collection on her little thinhamejig. So now I'm telling her about Granny's Intentions and the great voice of Johhny Duhan... who's still very much active.

  • I looked for Granny's Intentions on You Tube before ... glad to see they're finally there with an iconic song from the 60's. (at least it was iconic to us young teens in Limerick). I'd very much like to hear Never an Everyday Thing and Sandy's on the Phone Again ... they were quite brilliant.

  • I love this song, its on my mp3 player im only 23 years old and i love it!

  • Hi, I was going through some music with my son a couple of nights ago and I came across this recording on Youtube. You see I played on this record in 1967. My name is Jack Costelloe I played bass and sang backing vocals. The other members of the band, on this recording, were, John Ryan, Johnny Duhan, Johnny Hockedy, Cha Haran, Greg Donaghy. It was produced by Tony Clark who also produced The Moody Blues. I haven't heard it in years. I'm glad you like it.

  • Wow! Many thanks for posting a comment on this video... great stuff man

    Great song

  • I have all of this groups singles - they were a one off but interesting. There 45s were:

Julie Don't Love Me Anymore ,Never an Everyday Thing, Sandy's On The Phone Again & this one !

  • remember this group from the 60s. Seen them live in Dreamland ballroom in Athy (IRELAND) Where they opened for the Showband The Dixies. I wasn't into showbands and only went to see this group having heard them on Radio. The lead singer was a guy called Johnny Doohan he went on to become a songwriter, I think he actually wrote one of Ireland's entries for Eurovision. It's a pity they didn't carry on because the potential was there to succeed. They played the Beatgroup circuit all over Ireland.
