  • This idiom just means don't judge a gift. If someone is giving you a gift just be kind and accept it

  • i always love his little sigh of sad confused discouragement right after saying the idiom outloud. lol

  • ahh i get it now. hitler wanted to give the jews gifts, but his commanders thought he was saying poison

  • He's hilarious and cute. What a combo :-)

  • Flula, you seem like you have a nice body.

  • @TheMissApril1989 He does! Check out the airplane bathroom shower video :O !!!

  • The most confusing thing bout flula is his frikin metric system lol

  • @mrzachattackf Most of the world uses it though, it isn't confusing :P

  • HE'S NOT IN HIS CAR :O

  • @vasta0681859 Im sure u were one of the dumb asses that didnt know if he was serious or not at first judging by ur insecurity with my comment. GTFO my dick random person with zero videos of ur own and sit back and watch my views this summer douche bag

  • I like the mcdonalds prank call do yelling at every one on ten min.

  • you are hilarious.

  • lol mouse

  • Einem geschenktem Gaul schaut man nicht ins Maul... Same idiom in german...

  • stay a distance that is safe from the horse. lmfao

  • 90% of the people who watch Flula are stupid. He knows wtf these idioms he makes fun of mean. He just uses his german accent to capitalize on the hilarity of what it might sound like if a german man came to america and truley didnt get the idioms that we have here.

  • @FrontFlipMikeonAAW and you thinking you are the only one who figured this out makes you even more retarded than everyone you think is stupid. obviously he knows, its just funny to hear his point of view. how many views do your videos have? "da proof is in daa pudding"

  • Hitler to Americans: I i have a gift for you!!!!

Of course poison in german is gift. hahah

  • Nem geschenkten Gaul schaut man nicht ins Maul. Man, you are funny!

  • Einem geschenkten Gaul schaut man nicht ins Maul.

  • If someone is offering you something you don't want or need why should you accept just because it is free? Especially if you did not request. I know the most important thing is that the gift comes from the heart but I'm sorry grandma that sweater is ugly as shit and I'm not wearing it!

  • Wo habt Ihr diesen abgefuckten Deutschen ausgegraben ?

  • On of the greatest trolls. I like his absurd train of thought here. The German word "Gift" means "poison" (btw. the German word for gift/present is "Geschenk") so he just assumes that a horse that was given to someone for free shoots poison...This whole thing would not work if it was not for the translation pun.

  • looking a "gift horse", aka a horse gifted to you, in the mouth, can be insulting to the person giving the horse (horses being very valuable when this idiom came into use). today this idiom means not to be suspicious of something you get for free, or when you have a stroke of good luck

  • @Lvl22nerd Really? I always thought it was a reference to the trojan horse. Like, "Don't look a gift horse in the mouth because you might the reason it was a gift to be rather unpleasant."

  • Don't look a gift horse in the because it will fucking bite you.

  • If your still trying to get a top comment, your beating a dead horse!

  • dont look gift horse in mouse

  • Listen close..he says "don't look a gift horse in the mouse" Please tell me... where is the horse's mouse located?

  • flula no one ever said the gift horse was a true danger

  • Comment removed

  • Gift horses can shoot well over 20 meters.. be careful... maybe put some sun glasses on?

  • I think the saying means if the horse is free, don't look it over to see what condition its in, just take it.

  • i still do not like your shirt tom

    bahaha

  • lol "gift horses mouth." or "gift horse-mouse?" ahahahha lol

  • Maybe it should be, "don't look a slave in the mouth." that should go over well...

  • it's not an idiom per se. back in the day everything from horses to slaves could have their general health determined by looking at their teeth. in other words, if you get a gift dont be rude and examine it for flaws.

  • @bmfdv I've always though it was from the myth about Troy.. if you look in the horses mouth you'll see all the Greeks hiding inside.. Beware of Greeks bearing gifts. tho your explanation makes more sense :)

  • finally he's not in his car

  • horses for courses

  • This guy makes my day great!(:

  • Haha, du bist total verrückt ich fange an zu denken das du was nicht gesundes nimmst/rauchst, lmao ernshaft mal bist du high? :D

  • look at that tongue action at 1:06

  • that is a dumb idiom anyway lol i agree with flula

  • u jackass

  • Flula, maybe you should put that awful shirt you got from your friend on... for jebus sake...

  • Is Flula naked...? O-o

  • Flula do a video with Jenna Marbles!

  • It used to be that people would give horses/cows/pigs as gifts to men who married their daughters. You can tell the age of a horse by looking at its teeth. It was considered incredibly rude to check the teeth of a horse given as a gift. Thus, Don't look a gift horse in the mouth.

  • @ch4ot1c0n3 NERD! :)

  • @ViciousBeautyNYC HAHA, you love it.

  • I, too, am in love with this man.

  • I don't think gift horse can shoot at you... :D

  • I love all the people on here trying to explain to him about the saying. Sure he is from another country... but guys I'm pretty sure he understands the sayings, even though I am sure they are pretty strange

  • You're retarded.

  • i love how you're calling out all of our stupid american sayings and idioms. thanks flula

  • Lol I want to snuggle with u :)

  • I am in love with this man.

  • sorry man im so sorry ur awesome :)

  • in ZA mouse :D

  • @eswatg2e92 Newsboys did it first. Dork. XD

  • Gift = Present, something given to someone else. Looking at a horse's mouth usually means you're checking its teeth, seeing what condition it's in. If someone gave you a horse, checking how "good" it is right in front of them would be really rude. We apply it today to mean, "Don't try and measure the worth of a gift; it's a gift. Accept it graciously."

  • Flula was really "grasping at straws" with this one.

  • "I still do not like your shirt, Tom"

  • Don't accuse people of being like the Greeks from the Trojan war, buddy! They don't hide danger in the mouth, they are not trying to sack your city! :P

  • 16 people were shot by gift horse.

  • Comment removed

  • I dont get it...

  • "You can still look za gift horse in za mouth, but just, just stay a distance that iz safe from za gift horse. You know if you are, are 5 to 10 meters away, I don't think that za gift horse can shoot at you." hahaha he's killing it. haha

  • "You can still look za gift horse in za mouth, but just, just stay a distance that iz safe from za gift horse. I'd say 5-10 meters away" hahaha he's killing it. haha

  • @ all the Germans making comments such as: "Ach komm. Dieses Sprichwort gibt es auch (!) auf Deutsch."

Dieses Sprichwort IST Deutsch und wird hier in Amerika nicht benutzt. So, jetzt versteht ihr bestimmt, dass eure Kommentare keinen Sinn machen und warum wir in den Englisch sprechenden Länder diese Videos zum Kreischen lustig finden, besonders wenn jemand beide Sprachen fließend spricht.

    Flula, you rock!

  • @jc10036 Jesus, I actually understood that!

    HIGH-SCHOOL WORKS

  • 'Stay a distance that is safe from the gift horse"

  • i still do not like a shirt tom . lol

  • You tell the age of a horse by it's teeth. A gift horse is a free horse. You can cook it if it doesn't perform well, if it can't be ridden or what have you. So, don't look a gift horse in the mouth means don't inspect your gift, just be happy for it.

  • @KingLegolasG ridden?

  • youre so wise

  • TheTheKiller calm the fuck down bro if you don't like his videos get the fuck out of here

  • @TheThekiller75 calm the fuck down bro. we dont live in 1940s. if ur kidding, then nvm. if ur serious and ur american, according 2 ur logic, i can assume ur obese?

  • Flula needs to become best friends with Google.... and repurpose it and call it Flugle

  • @elzrae No. No. Flula needs no Google. If Flula looks up these idioms I will no longer have hours of entertainment. Shush your face hole.

  • believe me, i understand were you're coming from. when i was first living in Europe, a bunch of my friends would use odd idiom's that made absolutely no sense to me but were perfectly understandable to them. then again, they were French, so that must account for something. :)

  • Oh flula, flula, flula you can't record yourself in bed making tonguemotions like that, I'm not hearing a single word your saying *drools*

  • It's ok. I am American and I only learned this saying maybe a couple months ago...and yes, I find it just as stupid as you do. WTF is a gift horse?

  • I thought it was a reference to the Trojan Horse... meaning... keep on your guard... not whatever bleedscarlet said about inspecting a horse's mouth for his health....?

  • hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

  • Where's his headphones?

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

  • shoot de poison?

  • Du weisst schon dass dieses Sprichwort es auch in Deutschland gibt, oder?

  • @yourleaderDrChaos Einem geschenkten Gaul schaut man nicht ins Maul.

  • This reminds me of Scarlet Johanson. Anyone else? No. I'll get my coat.

  • "ALWAYS look a gift horse in the mouth...Trojan horse, anyone?"

    -Pony Merks

    from "China, IL" Episode 105

  • Flula, you shouldn't be surprised by this one. It actually comes from German:

"Einem geschenkten Gaul schaut man nicht ins Maul"

    It even rhymes nicely.

  • @snahdog Austrian. He's fucking Austrian.

  • @josephdileo Hey asshat! He even mentions the German language in the fucking video. And if you're listening comprehension is a little off, he also says he is German in his profile. Everyday that goes by and every other idiotic comment by jackasses like yourself make me lose that much more hope in humanity you fucking moron.

  • @pnggolfer9

I think josephdileo knows that flula is German. With his comment "Austrian. He's fucking Austrian." he was referring to another video where flula asked people what is typically German and they mostly answered Hitler which prompted flula to give the quote from josephdileo's comment...so no need to call him a "fuckin moron". Also: The language alone would not be enough to disqualify flula as Austrian since German is also spoken in Austria...but yes he is German.

  • @pnggolfer9 I was quoting another comment. So calm down and make sure you know what you're talking about before freaking out.

  • @pnggolfer9 *Reading* comprehension. Love the smell of irony in the morning.

  • @snahdog isnt horse pferd?

  • @dilirio25 Yes, but Gaul is also ok. That expression applies to male horses that are used to do physical labor.

  • @snahdog No it's an English one

  • @snahdog Yeah but this is not the same.

  • >transcribe audio

    >LOL

  • I like the idea of a horse turning you into a zombie better than what it actually means.

  • 0:59 ROFLMFAO

  • @karlo16k but that's the point...he's a comedian. he probably knows what it means, he's just trying to entertain us.

  • thank god you've seen 28 days later. it's a great movie

  • i know you're a comedian and everything, but for fucks sake, JUST GOOGLE IT!

  • My "friend" ahahaha xD

  • You should discuss "have your cake and eat it too." I want your take on this...

  • I still don't like the shirt, Tom.

  • Dont lick a gift house in ze mouse

  • This man has torn down the false ideals presented to us by our leaders. He sees reality the way it is meant to be.

  • LOL HE'S SO CUTE

  • 1:02 "ehhh.. wie sacht man das jetz..." :D

And I then so: "Häää?" :D

Hömma, why should jemand sayen, that when you get a t-shirt and you that hässlich finds, that sentences? :D if s.b. does it, say: Go me not on the bag! ;)

  • den ausdruck gibt es ebenso im deutschen: "einem geschenkten gaul, guckt man nicht ins maul"...

  • gift horse mouse.

  • 0:55 lol, poison horse face

  • The markings on a horse's teeth change over time, so you can tell a horse's age from them. Horses that are over a certain age really shouldn't be doing any work anymore, but to check for age on a horse someone is giving to you for free would be inappropriate etiquette. However if you see a horse you might wish to place an offer on, then that is the appropriate situation to check for age and any other flaws.

  • Lmao my fucking god I can't stop laughing! Tosh should get this guy on his show. Web redemption!!

  • Its so funny how he takes the most stupid and random stuff and tries to make a story out of it

  • The idiom makes perfect sense, even without context. If someone gives you a gift and you inspect it... that's rude. But being german.... Gift = Poison? You still shouldn't look a poison horse in the mouth lol

  • 'don't look a gift horse in the mouth' makes about as much sense as "a penny saved is worth two in the bush" - Boondock Saints :D

  • Here you are thinking about some idioms. Start thinking about "How to have a life".

  • I think the email meant Trojan horse.

  • You guys are looking too far into this. He is acting clueless and confused to be funny.

  • And people said he wasn't actually German. :D

  • this is the cutest fucking guy in the world omg

  • LOL i love this guy.... 'it is not a nice shirt.." lol

  • epic...

  • ach komm, das gibt's doch auch im deutschen. "Einem geschenkten Gaul schaut man nicht ins Maul."

  • Moral of the story:

The mouse makes you get a chain on your neck and eat people.

  • Gift in English means present. So don't be picky about things you are getting for free.

  • I still don like zhe shirt, doh.

  • I think: "Don't look a gift lion in the mouth would make a lot more sense" myself.

  • I say don't just stay away from the gift horse. I say "shoot ze gift horse in ze mouse"! After all, you should have plenty of ammunition left over from all the fish you didn't shoot in the barrel. (c;

    Schöne Grüße aus Hamburg!

  • Just means that you shouldn't be too critical about what you are given. It is after all something you were freely given, and anything else is just an insult to the giver...

  • Make your videos louderrrrrr

  • Gift Horse is referring to the infamous Trojan Horse - disguised as a present, but filled with soldiers ready to attack.

  • lol Gift Pferd.

  • A gift in German is poison lol

  • Ey Flula,

"Einem geschenkten Gaul schaut man nicht ins Maul."

Macht DAS Sinn fur jemand, der Deutsch lernt?! Nein.

Redewendungen sind einfach so, die ergeben kein Sinn.

  • no, this one does make sencce lol , you look them in the teeth to know if they are any good.

  • omfg I laugh so hard at your videos like these

  • KILL THOSE GIFT HORSES!!!!! QUICK!11!1!!

  • Come on Flula! Surely Germans have heard of the Iliad! :)

  • Do every video naked!

  • i bet he is completely naked

  • @wantsomecheesebuddy

    I hope so

  • @bleedscarlet "its similar to the phrase 'beggars can't be choosers'", and countered by the phrase 'Beware Greeks baring gifts', i think? About the Trojan horse.. :3

  • What's your opinion on the idiom "have your cake and eat it too"?

  • I lold when you said to stay five meters away

  • Can some please tell me if he is being honest with these videos or just messing around? Either way, funny stuff.

  • Looking at a horse's mouth was a way to inspect it's health. You check it's teeth for disease, so when someone gives you a gift-horse, you don't inspect it to see whether it's up to par, you simply accept.

Inspect it when they're not looking, it's considered rude. it's similar to the phrase "Beggars can't be choosers"

Anywho, that's the origin. I had this discussion with some friends a few months back and we got to the bottom of the matter then, just thought I'd share our results.

  • @bleedscarlet real life antijoke chicken

  • Does he not have that saying from his region in Germany? I learned that phrase in German as well.

  • Mother fucking poison horse! Awesome!

  • hey den spruch haben wir auch auf deutsch . Einem geschenktem gaul schaut man nicht ins maul ;)

  • I never did like this idiom, someone explain? (makes youtube channel and talking like a noob and expects to get a million views)

  • He wasn't even using the idiom right!

  • He voice makes me laugh....does he really talk like that or is he trying to be funny?

    Because I'm from America...?

  • @pinknglitterryy He's from Germany, he has a German accent. Also, what does it matter where you are from?

  • @kirstielol I figured that because of Dirk....and I guess it dosen't.

  • @pinknglitterryy yes..we gather from the first statement that you are american..

  • This guy is brilliant.

  • He's so... Adorable somehow

    You know?

  • Basically, it comes from the time when people had to use horses to get around because there were no cars. An old horse would not be able to haul as much or do as much work as a young one, so people buying horses would check for their age. The easiest way to tell a horse's age is through certain markings that appear and change on its teeth as they grow. However, if you received a horse as a gift, it would be rude to immediately look for flaws- basically, that's what the idiom is saying.

  • @Altoclarinets you got trolled, this guy just wants to make people laugh
