In 1824, at least 6,000 African-Americans who were freed from slavery migrated from the United States and founded " Samana ", Dominican Republic. Today, it is estimated that 80% of the population in Samana is of African-American descent.
hi, im from dominican republic nice vid, next time go to playa bonita or coson beach thats on samana las terrenas you will find a quiet spot over there, i think is one of the nices place ive ever seen ,,,,,
As an African American, I always wanted to stay for months in Spain and a few weeks in the Dominican Republic or Puerto Rico. After seeing and feeling the peace on the natives' faces, I am cutting my trip to Spain very short. Life in Samana is akin to life in the Delta of Mississippi. Nothing much has changed in five cienturies. The folk there are nice and kind just like the Dominicans. I really like Samana!!
I Am a Dominican and I know the beauty of my beautiful island. Additionally I know the heart of the Dominican people. We are a very humble people and we truly believe in the old phrase, mi casa su casa. Like most countries we also have our share of poor people and maybe we have a little more than just our fare share. However, that doesnt take away our dignity, pride and sense of honor and patriotism that each Dominican will always display very proudly when speaking of his/her island. Thanks
yes Samana has beautiful beaches, Cayo Lebantado isnt one of them, just the Ugliest beach in samana, its like being in Boca Chica, i liked the food and the drinks thats about it. If you want to eat at a restaurant in las Galeras, go to Plaza Lusitania ( the bartender cant even make a strawberry daiquiri but the pizza is alright) across this place is also the Gri Gri they have decent food and the drinks are good too.
if you ever go to la Playita, there are 2 retaurants, i only tried the one closest to the shore, it is owned by a local elder woman, DO NOT try her food, she is a bad cook, and has low basic hygiene standars. there is a pizza place about 15min walk from las galeras town, they supposed to have steak BBQ thing every friday night, i dont recommend this place either, believe me you're better off cooking your own meal.
I've spent two weeks there in 2002 in Las Terrenas. Cascada del limon, HAitises, places i won't forget. I suggest to the ones who are thinking about getting there to stay at Kanesh hotel, an indian guy who setlled there, very nice people and incredible landscape. Samana is without any doubt one of caribbean jewels.
I am dominican, and I have been to samana once, and let me tell you, Is the most beautiful caribbean place I´ve ever seen, and I have been to different countries. I think, that Cap Cana, Punta Cana, Bavaro and Saman are the best tropical places in the caribbean. I just love it!
look i have no ideal who you are trying to sell this isn't folys thease people seem poor to me not folks it's there dinner cause they can't afford to buy any thing else thease people seem very poor
not cool
but i geuss if you try and sellit more people will come and they will make money so u know do your thing
We were told about it before we went by a fellow in Bayahibe, who grew up there. It was definitely my favorite area and there was a lot we didn't see so I can't wait to return as well.
"white people"? - I live in Canada and I am a woman. I have the same red blood as everyone else if I we were to get cut. And yes the poverty affected me - alot. I have lived in poverty.
its just the tone of his voice like they enjoyed so much seeing how thease people live and talk about why the kids shirt is like rags and why they dont have a better boat to get there food everyday, it's just that i saw the same movie differently, i was in tortola and the people are wonderful, they saved my life
I lived in the Dominican Republic for a short time and did not have the opportunity to visit this area. When I return this will be a MUST see! Thanks for the video!
Was there in Febuary this year and i agree. It is the most amazing place! It was the most relaxing vacation ive ever had. Cant wait to go back.
