that's fake, my laptop boots up windows 7 in 5 seconds with SSD ocz vertex 2 agility and 20 seconds with 5400rpm hdd, so my laptop beats up your mac anyway and is twice as cheap than your 'mighty' mac, stop trying to convince people and yourself that your mac is more than it's is, it may be a bit better(stable, friendlier, but not faster) than a pc, but it doesn't justify its price

these issues are normally considered when user has nothing to do on computer. in practical, startup and shutdowns are very minor issues. what matter is who has better intelligent computing. Windows most of time wins as it access RAM and Graphic better because large computing tables. Linux is better in networking and data communications, but weak in gaming etc. So, its what you need.
Even though I'm a much bigger fan of pc, I still have to say windows is not flawless. But macs aren't either. I am tired of seeing fanboys from either side boasting how good their pc or Mac is without accepting ANY criticism given by the opposite side. This is not a fair test becuase Apple has not made drivers that are optimized by Windows 7. My laptop has worse specs than the Mac and mine shuts down a couple seconds faster. Find a Windows PC that is similar to this Mac and then compare that. The results wouldn't be as far apart.

you can't compare it in that way! you need an original pc with win7 and an origional mac with snow leopard than you may can compare it but i dont think you can compare it at all because these os's are based on other software structures..or i'm false?

Also the tech specs of a macbook pro also depend on how fast it boots or shutsdown i use macs and they load generally fast but i probably wouldnt go to pcs ever again simply because now steam is on macs and the mac has one of the best video editing software yo date and dispite what you guys may think macs actually can have a lot of power to run lots of programs at once

Ok Windows 7 takes longer because it has to load a different bios and load the core drivers first than starts the boot unlike if i booted windows 7 on this and mac on a mac they'll be around the same. or if i booted mac on my pc it'll boot up slower than on a mac.

Common, you put windows on mac is surely to make mac slow and use over 20s to start up and more than 2s to shut down, uninstall windows, you will find mac much faster. within 16s start up and nearly take no time to shut down

thats a load of crap, it goes amazingly slow bcoz bootcamp is crap my friend has windows 7 so when i was on his laptop (btw his laptop is like not that good its intel celeron) i shut it down and started it up and it took 50 seconds to startup AND HES ON INTEL CELERON AND RLY SLOW COMPUTER and this took 45 secs on a comp with good specs.
@salamani because it is still important for Desktop users who don't want to send their machines just to hyper-sleep cuz of power consumtion. So you could also ask Microsoft, Apple, or the Linux/BSD-Community why they work so hard to make the machines boot faster.
With the Booting Technologies used in earlier operating system, Windows 7 and Mac OS X would need a boot time of 15-30 Minutes and more, and the OSses will blow up even more. So it's a logical step to short the boot times.

dude my computer is beast it has a 640gb hard drive a phenom 2 black (i think its black) 6 gb of ram and a nvdia geforce video card don't know the specifics on the video card and its liquid cooled so it goes even faster

That's a bad comparison. Even my 2yrs old Sony laptop does it better than yours. It boots to windows only 18sec (it's the old core 2 duo w/ only 1gb of ram. Shut down time is 12sec. You should use a PC OEM compare to a Mac book of similar specs THEN you'll see the differences.

My computer shuts down in 20 seconds and turns on in 27 and this is also with a wd3200aajs 7200rpm hard drive, and 4gb ram.

@bernie23232323232323 well if you think about it macs are now pretty much pc's using intel chips and the same hdd's that most pc's use. not only that but you are comparing the wrong things mac is not a software developer they are a hardware designer, so of course os's are going to shut down faster and all that but then again windows has a lot of unnessicary codes to shut down as for osx is very light on its feet and operates smoother but all in all you know you will always need both os's

Also the tech specs of a macbook pro also depend on how fast it boots or shutsdown i use macs and they load generally fast but i probably wouldnt go to pcs ever again simply because now steam is on macs and the mac has one of the best video editing software yo date and dispite what you guys may think macs actually can have a lot of power to run lots of programs at once

It's a comparison in boot and shutdown times. It's NOT about what you can do in those 15 seconds or how it affects your life.
And people saying their Windows boots in 10 seconds are either lying or using hibernate mode.
Windows experience:
When Windows shows the desktop it still takes another 10..15 seconds before it's really useable.

we must understand they both are diff and uses diff tech. if you are a computer user for personal data, sheets emails photos browsing or some kind of programing then mac should be the first choice. windows sucks thats my opinion i moved my self from pc to mac after using pc for more than 15 years and i have no regret

Ok Windows 7 takes longer because it has to load a different bios and load the core drivers first than starts the boot unlike if i booted windows 7 on this and mac on a mac they'll be around the same. or if i booted mac on my pc it'll boot up slower than on a mac.

Common, you put windows on mac is surely to make mac slow and use over 20s to start up and more than 2s to shut down, uninstall windows, you will find mac much faster. within 16s start up and nearly take no time to shut down

the thing is this it all depends on the processer mac has a powerful processer which allows it to shut down faster and start up fast and go on internet faster etc. and that go's the same for windows if it was a really high processer then windows would start up like the mac which would be really fast soooooo basicly it doesnt matter which is better cause it all depends on the processer which will be updated a bunch of times making it even faster then before so NEITHER computer is better

thats a load of crap, it goes amazingly slow bcoz bootcamp is crap my friend has windows 7 so when i was on his laptop (btw his laptop is like not that good its intel celeron) i shut it down and started it up and it took 50 seconds to startup AND HES ON INTEL CELERON AND RLY SLOW COMPUTER and this took 45 secs on a comp with good specs.

@salamani because it is still important for Desktop users who don't want to send their machines just to hyper-sleep cuz of power consumtion. So you could also ask Microsoft, Apple, or the Linux/BSD-Community why they work so hard to make the machines boot faster.
With the Booting Technologies used in earlier operating system, Windows 7 and Mac OS X would need a boot time of 15-30 Minutes and more, and the OSses will blow up even more. So it's a logical step to short the boot times.

To all the Noobs who r saying that this is because of a Macbook.. Lemme tell u that new Macbook works on Intel x86 architecture on which windows is supposed to run.... Whereas OSX r built to run on RISC architecture and here Macs use Hidden EMULATOR ROSETTA to run OSX on MACS... So OSX is still not in its best... Otherwise OSX's BOOT and SHUTDOWN time would me lesser...

dude my computer is beast it has a 640gb hard drive a phenom 2 black (i think its black) 6 gb of ram and a nvdia geforce video card don't know the specifics on the video card and its liquid cooled so it goes even faster

That's a bad comparison. Even my 2yrs old Sony laptop does it better than yours. It boots to windows only 18sec (it's the old core 2 duo w/ only 1gb of ram. Shut down time is 12sec. You should use a PC OEM compare to a Mac book of similar specs THEN you'll see the differences.
