The "dance-off" at Arlene's request was cute although I have no idea who this couple is.. were they ever in movies or TV personalities of the time only?
in a nutshell, there still exists today the 'arthur murray dance studio'-various records were available with all the dances of the time(chachas, rumbas, tangos, etc)and they had a dance instruction tv show(one of the few to be on all 4 networks-including dumont)-the cha cha album has a song called 'arthur you should smile more'-a 'rib' at his tendency to not smile...
ahhh, thanks for the insight! I love watching WML but being young its sometimes hard to get some of the jokes when I don't know who the 'celebrities' are! I'll have to keep my eye out for their recodrs at the local second hand bookstore.
some more for you--the october 1962 national geographic magazine has a long article about los angeles--the reporter arrived in nov.1961(bel-air fire), left in march '62(pouring rain, and i was born)-there's a pic of the famous pasadena rose parade and visible in the distance is a 'veloz and yolanda' dance studio-they were a dance team in the 40's and are referenced in 'the way we were'('you dance like veloz and yolanda)-also fred astaire had studios too-and the RCA'perfect for dancing' lp's..
FYI- if you want to know who A.&K.Murray were- if you don't Know...

GSN rebroadcast this 1960 episode in March 2009. It featured Elizabeth Taylor's male secretary and a female exterminator.
1:48 I suspect the camera facing Daly's desk had something wrong with it. All through the broadcast, the image from that camera had a dark center.
4:48 What was Mr. Murray thinking? Arthur brought the episode's sophistication down about three notches -- toupes should be seen, not heard.
Wow Very early Betty White. DK was resting up from her Finch Trial reporting.

Wasn't the slogan for Arthur Murray dance studios, "Walk in mambo out" at one time?

According to an article in Wikipedia about Murray there were at one time "over 3,560 dance studios bearing his name."
