  • Omg your awesome I am 13 and I have to do that for a festival and it looks soooo easy for you. You are completely AWESOME!!!!

  • This exact music was played at my son's wedding -- piccolo trumpet and organ, however. The tempo was much, much slower. In my opinion, the tempo here is way too fast. The trumpet player did a good job, however. I am guessing the tempo I love is around 60 beats per minute--majestic!

  • Not a bad sound, but why is he holding the trumpet as if it were a clarinet or something?

  • @ActorFlautista because it depends on his mouth shape, i know someone who is an amazing trumpeter but because he has an overbit he cant hold the trumpet up with completely screwing up the embouchure (mouth)

  • trills?

  • This was very impressive :) I haven't ever heard it performed at this tempo, but I enjoyed it. I agree with this petie fellow though, because your tonality greatly depends on posture. might seem like more of a comment I'd give to a singer, but narrowing your throat by looking down can have an immense impact on where you sit on a pitch when youre playing the trumpet. though it wasnt incredibly out of tune, try to listen and sit on the middle of the pitch. all in all though, great :)

  • wow!! Good playing but far too fast! Sorry to repeat what others have said,

  • Well, I don't know what the 14 thumbs down are talking about, for 14 years old this is brilliant! Took me back to my wedding 32 years ago, THE most gorgeous piece for such an occasion. Well done you 14 year old, tears to my eyes! (In a good way.)

  • watch?v=k1Zk8Mfzqfc&feature=related

  • It really isn't bad. I don't think the people commenting are being negative, just giving some constructive criticism. I agree with them, the pace is way too fast. You probably would have done much better had you been playing at a slower pace. Other than that, and the few pitch issues you did great! :-)

  • Could have used a little more vibrato... And it was kinda fast for a beautiful piece. But otherwise, you were right on!

  • disregard what everyone else said about the piano or the trumpet being down or whateverrrr this is really good..... tone is beautifullll

    good job!!!!!

  • This is a simplified version and if I don't miss my guess it was used to embarass the player who is far beyond this simple piece. Must have diddled the tutor's daughter.

  • @petie32 Simplified version ? LOL A simmplified version would probably be one that was in a much lower key.

Please advise how this is different from the supposed original more complex version

  • @trumpetpete It is a simplified version.... where are the trills//?

  • @trumpetpete You are not doing any of the standard ornaments that go with this piece. Thus making it a "simplified version"

  • I am a trumpet player myself and have got a Bb trumpet and C trumpet.I have been playing since I was 18.Having watched the video, the young lad was good especially in front of an audience ( something I find difficult to do).I am NOT aprofessional and have never taken any music grades at all.I have heard "Trumpet Voluntary" before and in my mind the piano was far to quick and from what I have learnt from a Professional is have the trumpet level, not facing up or down because too sharp or too flat

  • Wow, that is one beautiful tone quality. It's either that or the echo. Get that piano to slow down. this piece is so much slower

  • Most of you people need to learn the difference between to and too.

  • hey that was very nice for your age i mean great tone.... only 14 wow. the piano was a little fast, you should try the original you could handle it. AND REMEMBER BELL UP!! keep it up

  • Ya bro hold it up. Play it loud, play it proud. I like this wattered down version. It sounds good but the origional is the best. I think it's wayy to fast. Slow it down sme broski.

  • C'est nul. Y'a pas d'autres mots

  • way to fast

  • 0:58 ouch... that hurts...

  • I wish I had been bought a D trumpet when I was 14...I'm playing in college and I still don't even have a C. Those of us who are poor learn to transpose!

  • Bell Up

  • Like his sound, he's gotta work on his phrasing and originality though.

  • wow very well done! this is very good. i am accompanying someone who is playing the trumpet at a recital in April, and i was listening to these as a refrance. very well done! sounds amazing, not only comming from the mouth of a piano player but also a trumpet player. great job!

  • excelllent jsb leipzig

  • this is really very nice! i dont care if it was too fast! fantastic!

  • MUCH to fast!!

  • agree with all, piano going to fast, some small pitch problems. And HOLD THE TRUMPET UP. I understand the music is down there, but you can't look at the music if it hurts your tone. Raise the stand up a little higher and aim your trumpet so it's right to the right above the stand. Since you don't have a conductor (well, some do) it's easy to look down to the left and get the view. Works for me and it would probably help in situations like this.

PS: If stand is as high as can go, i'm sorry.

  • 1. The piano went the same speed as me.

    2. Who needs a conductor if its just trumpet and piano ?

  • 1. It really doesn't sound like it, probably a little phasing going on.

    2. I played in a church group for a while and they conducted EVERYTHING except for just Piano. I talked to other people and they had similar things so i put "(well, some do)" in case you happened to have one.

  • @trumpetpete to keep time? haha

  • @trumpetpete 3. when this piece was written it was meant to be played at a much faster tempo, much like he's doing. the tempo slowed down a lot over time... so he's playing it correctly the at the traditional tempo.

  • @MusicalHoneyBe yes?

  • hmm.. the arrangement doesn't tell them to trill?

  • not bad at all, but you need to hold your trumpet up. dont point it at the ground. holding you chin up will force you to hold the trumpet up, and it will increase airflow.

  • nevertheless it was good ;-)

but you're totally right, if he helds the trumpet up (parallel to the ground) the tone, breathing (airflow) will get better, as well the audience will get a brighter tone!

  • Good job. A judge might ding him a little for a bit of pitchiness here and there but he gets up there and plays it loud and proud. Good solid supported tone. Sounds like he's on the right track. I wish I sounded that good at 14.

  • who no trills

  • isso ta uma merda vc nao toca isso nem na casa do caralho ate meu cachorro toca melhor!

  • please don't get me wrong, you did a great job, and the piano player went to fast as well.

  • It would have been a bad show if the piano had gone a different speed to the trumpet - LOL

  • he's going way to fast. A bride would be rushing down the ile

  • The trumpet is pichted in D - how much higher do you want ? I am playing in the original key. ???? No need for that. find a bit cocky .Personaly my self Im going to say sorry for Making that last comment Towards You. U was right It is in D indeed. Im a Cathedral Organist and Scholor Organist as well. And play Trumpet For 6 years And as i found out yesterday playing this peace is right. I just think it is the video making it sound Like it is lower then the pitch u are playign it at. God bless

  • The trumpet is pichted in D - how much higher do you want ? I am playing in the original key.

  • ur trumpet is way to low!!! good playing though

  • fix ur posture

  • I am generally happy with my posture - camera angle was not great though which may not have helped.

  • Getzen Eb-trumpet?

  • Its a Schilke Eb not Getzen

  • raise ure trumpet higher

  • U say the same to sergei nakariakov??

  • does he sound like sergei nakariakov? im not saying he's bad. He actually sounds quite good. But, needless to say he is no sergei

  • Nakariakov shuld raise his trumpet too, it looks terible and you will close the air stream from the neck

  • its not the look - its the sound - Nakairaov was in a bad car crash hence the posture.

  • I know that, but that does not make an excuse for you...

  • I remember when I was that young playing the trumpet. I was one of the best at the school and in the county, though I must say I wasn't quite that good i don't think. Your intonation is wonderful. You hit each note precisely where it should be. You're on your way to being a professional trumpet player.

  • Pretty good for a difficult piece known so well by tons of people, keep on you have the touch and so young it is admirable.

  • whats the rush. fill the phrase. and breath.

  • Wow, great playing for a 14-year-old! He'll go far if he sticks with it.

  • He must have thin lips

  • I am a 13 year old trumpet player myself and I can't get those notes that high. I have the same song in my music book but in deeper/lower notes. You sound great! I hope when I turn thirteen... I can hit those high notes. One thing I did notice is that you should have put the trumpet up higher projecting the sound out into the audience. This not only will sound better but will also help you to breath better. Also, it sounded like you sped up the song. Good job an keep playing!

  • I think it is great for a 14 year old, and ignore the comments below about your angle, as with any wind instrument, you follow your airstream, if you have a slight overbite and the air shoots out of your mouth downward, it only makes sense that the instrument goes where the air is.

  • i agree that it is great for a 14 year old to play this, and also to play this with such a great sound etc.

On the other hand what you say about the airstreem and overbite is complete nonsense. It's better for the airflow to keep the trumpet straight, and also your head straight, also with a overbite. With an overbite you have to adjust your lower yaw, by placing it a little forward so it is placed well (right) under the upper yaw.

  • even with pulling the jaw forward, if the teeth grew at an angle, it will be hinder the air to try and force it in an unnatural direction instead of allowing the air. Bell up is something band directors that dont play the trumpet say. Bell up is asthetic and can hinder the playing of the horn. Think about pivoting, (an advanced technique to play in certain registers). The FBI says follow the money.... Instrumentalist follow the air!

  • I think it is great for a 14 year old, and ignore the comments below about your angle, as with any wind instrument, you follow your airstream, if you have a slight overbite and the air shoots out of your mouth downward, it only makes sense that the instrument goes where the air is.

  • u have to remember he's in a what looks like a church so the emptiness tends to make u sound bigger than what you really are even though he's pretty good he didn't crack any notes he needs a better horn angle

    P.S. why a "C" trumpet try it on "B" Flat it's harder lmao:D

  • I don't agree with comments that you have to hold your trumpet up. If you want proof of pro players who hold their instrument down search Sergei Nakariakov.

  • yes, bell up = bigger sound. i was actually surprised what a full sound he had with the bell down! he's really good, he just needs to hold up his bell more. later, when he plays concerts, the judges will criticize him for that. but he's really good!! keep it up!! (i'm a 14 year old trumpet player too, and trust me, he's AWESOME for 14)

  • The biggest suggestion I can give is to increase air support. Leading with air, and not the lip is important. Take bigger breaths that fill up the entire lung, not just the top. If done correctly, the stomach moves out ward instead of just the chest. (It is clearly visible when a deep breath is executed) Holding a trumpet higher isn't a problem, if it works for him.

  • He's very good.

  • i personally cant stand his posture, nothing too bad about his playing though! just saying, MOST of what I've read, says not to play like that. Better for air if you play otherwise. I guess it floats his boat though..........

  • We are happy to accept comments and criticisms, but explanations or suggestions for improvement would be useful. What in particular is the problem with posture?

  • i play trumpet too and im 14.. ive been playing for about 5 years now.. no offense to him but he needs to hold his bell up more.. it allows better air to flow.. whih can help him play and helps the tone of the trumpet.. "the more air the better tone." i dunno if he is the type of person to be nervous at concerts.. but i used to be nervous and that when i would hold my horn like that.. but now since im not nervous at all i hold it up high.. also try using an

    11b4 mouthpiece instead of a 7c.

  • 11b4 is less deep.. makes it alittle harder to tongue each note i find.. but for me it seems to give a better tone and helps me hit higher notes.. i can barely hit a high b with a 7c.. but with an 11b4 (main mouthpiece now) i can hit a high d and on a good day a high e but i usually dont try to go that high.. keep it up sounds good.. btw? what type of trumpet is that?? what brand and i cant tell is it silver?? ive always wanted a silver lol. i play a ytr2335 yamaha. "check the valves if not sure

  • Trum - It is a Schilke D/E Flat

  • He is playing on a 1 1/4 C

  • eh 7c is standard and has great balance for sound and range. 11b4s are weird. The sound you will probably want with most classical music is a dark, deep sound. Bigger mouthpieces (5c-1c) can improve your sound in that sense, but sacrifices some range.

  • no what the hell are you talking about get a Vincent Bach 3c it's a better the cups not too deep but it's not too small I've been playing for about 9 years now and personally i think that the Bach 3c is a better mouthpiece

  • Blobster the instrument is a Schilke D Trumpet.

  • yea i figured from this angle it looks like a C trumpet sorry bout that

  • a Bach 3c is much better and most professionals have recommended that to me

  • he should hold his horn alittle bit higher than straight.. good job ;[)

  • i've to play th trumpet voluntary at easter in my chirch (weak legs)

  • a little fast but good i will be playing this song at my next solo ensamble

  • your awsome kid

  • i know this cuz i play the trumpet

but if he can play this at 14 years old..

he has a very good potential!

    keep going!!

  • yeh, quite abit too fast in my opinion. no need to play it that quickly.

  • I think this is a tad too quick. Just a shade slower would demonstrate better musicality IMHO. Otherwise, well played.

  • Jamais vu le piano...

  • Good Job!

  • few cracked notes but it was still very good!

  • LovestheOrgan - have you actually made any point there ?

I enjoyed the brisk tempo in this performance. It would have sounded a little grander if you had used organ accompaniment rather than piano. Slight intonation issues at the end but 10 out of 10 considering the age of the performer.

Your other video shows off your legato playing very well.

  • umm are you serious????

  • very cool, very nice:)

  • Well played. Nice sounds. Just keep the air moving for the notes in the higher register. Very impressive. :)

  • very nicely done - smooth, consistent playing

  • I love your performance it reminds me of my brother playing the trumpet
