I'm astonished. After this interpretation, I'll obviously remember that Callas also did it. I agree with with Laffinwild though: Dessay's interpretation is more interesting. But Callas voice, Jesus... We should admire this beautiful aria regardless the interpreters, I think. This is one of the most beautiful melodic compositions ever! Well done, Délibes!
I shouldn't be, yet I'm constantly astounded by the need to criticize. I enjoy Dessay's performance of this best, but I'm an ENORMOUS Callas fan. There is a quality to her voice that no one else has really had. Yes, she sang a number of roles that were not composed with a voice like hers in mind, but with an obscene amount of hard work she delivered interpretations that WORKED. Her middle and lower registers contain more character than virtually anyone since has displayed.
I have to defend Callas. Her voice isn't as bad as it sounds. Seriously, does anyone have the critiques of her from La Scala? That would decide it once and for all. Ponds however is still No.1 on this particular aria.
@gustopheles How did you know my actual name is Richard? And yes, although most of my friends call me Rich, a number do, in fact, refer to me as Dick. Do we know each other? I don't recognize your YouTube handle
@David50s I should have clarified, my bad! I meant to suggest that you are, figuratively, an ambulatory male reproductive appendage. I mean this in the pejorative. This is because your opinions - that Maria Callas' coloratura is lacking, that Dessay and Sutherland are anything better than inferior - are dumb as fuck.
Nice....I am not sure whether I like her version or Lily Pons or Ingeborg Hallstein"s, but this is really satisfying...thanks Maria, thanks Phalenopsis1...
Maria Callas in one beginning, silky voice and versatile expression, no paragraph should have never this kind of repertoire, here she shows that her voice was not spinto soprano, her lyric soprano voice was that of young coloratura resources could reach as demonstrated in this record!!!
Mille Grazie!!! Cara *phalenopsis1*per questo Gioiello!!!
