I was 11 years old when I sat down with my mother and father to watch this match. Arsenal were HUGE favorites to win the cup, but Ipswich played so well on the day, hitting the woodwork three times. The years that followed were just fantastic, and how cool would it be if they could knock Arsenal out of the League Cup tonight! Hoping for a miracle, because we need one. Hopefully new manager Paul Jewell can bring some joy back to Portman Road.
@raoulandtheking Yes that was a great side and would still contest for the league today, some teams are just so good they would compete in any era, well that's my view, what do you think? As you say great memories!Ye won the UEFA Cup in 1981 which was a great achievement.
I wanted to say this. I was a US military dependent at RAF Bentwaters in 1978. I became an Ipswich fan just prior to the FA Cup run. The town celebrated when the Blues came back and the coach - Cyril Lea - lived next door to one of my classmates. We wound up taking a trip to Portman Road a few weeks later. I also had the privilege of meeting Roger Osborne and Mick Lambert. I still have Roger's autograph, in fact. Thank you for posting a great memory. Do you have the entire match?
I have the nothing but the height of respect/admiration for this Ipswich team, they are one of the best teams Britain has ever produced, deserved to win the league but Liverpool were so imperious, but still Ipswich had a great side, but look at them now.
Great era for the FA Cup. RIP Sir Bobby.

Only ITV could ever contemplate having Jackie Charlton as summariser. His grasp of players names is as great as ever!

@Maestrohbill I was in Ipswich when they brought the FA cup home the day after this match, I think the semi final was a better game.
