  • Hey mn12bird, the way to get off stickiness and price tags off, nicely and cleanly, is to squirt a little lighter fluid onto a pice of paper towel and rub it on the price tag. The chemical softens that crap up and makes it easy to wipe it right off.

  • I tested it on emulator and is region free, even if set to PAL, and insert the game jap

  • @1191SPEED Yeah, in an emulator you have probably loaded a universal BIOS file. Changing PAL in the setting is just changing resolution not region and I'm almost certain real PS2 systems are region locked you need a Japanese PS2 system to play Japanese games. I could be wrong but I'm fairly certain of that I've seen people buy real Japanese PS2's just because they wanted to play Japanese games so that's why I'm guessing that.

  • also on consoles like the PS1 and PS2 modchip does not eliminate the regional bloc because he is already region free the ps2 right?

  • @1191SPEED PS2 isn't region free but I'm not sure about mod chips for the PS2 they got pretty advanced so it wouldn't surprise me if the mod chip also made PS2 region free.

  • the mod chip and region free?

  • @1191SPEED Nope the mod chip just lets it play backups it still won't play games from other regions like Japan without extra mods or a Action Replay 4M Plus cart.

  • the only sonic 1 version were you can spin dash :)

  • That particular model mod chip rarely works and went for $12. I bought 2 of them and were fried right out of the box. I had to order a completely different model for $35 off a UK site shipped to me the US for another $7. This was back in 2005. I can't believe those horrible $12 chips go for $40 now, hell no.

  • Well apparently, if you know for sure that it has a modchip installed, then the price is literally 10 times more expensive. I got a Saturn for my birthday in 2011 (waaay late) from Digital Press in Clifton, NJ, US, and it costed 120 USD. It was probably because you were paying them to put it in, but does it really have to be that friggin' expensive?

  • that mod chip sells on racketboy's website for 37 bucks... so ya its really really worth that 9 Canadian you spent :)

  • whats that mod chip do?

  • @lovelorn8888 it lets u play burnt saturn games because normally the saturns laser moves up when reading the disc to read the anti piracy layer that sais some stuff about sega imprinted at the edge of the cd so it knows its a legit game but the modchip makes the saturn forget to check for the anti piracy layer so if the saturn recognisez the game it will just play the burnt game without checking if its legit

  • $9.99 for a saturn! I have to kill a brother to even get one! =(

  • Oh wow, it looked like you where very lucky with that purchase :-D

I bought a saturn for the same price and saw later that it contained the VCD Cart (that goes over here for arround 100 Euros), so I was very happy, too :-D

Reguarding the 3D part of your video... I don't know if you ever saw it, but there was a demo of Shenmue that I saw years ago and it looked amazing. Imo the Saturn is one of the coolest consoles ever, I am sorry that it was always that underrated... Great video :-)

  • @Atarix777 Yeah man those VCD carts are cool so that's an even bigger surprise to find one of those in a cheap Saturn. Yeah that 3D Sonic thing was also surprising.

  • @MN12BIRD - maybe a bigger surprise, but for sure not as usefull as yours, hehehe ;-D

  • Dead Saturn Battery, ha, well at least they are easy to replace, very common battery. I have a Action Replay cart for playing imports (and cheats)...it also doubles as a memory card, I put any important saves there. Just in case the battery dies out of nowhere. Finding a used Saturn with a modchip $9.99. Thats just awesome, I got one modded at SegaStyle. It was great...but alot more then $9.99...wow.

  • obviously you used something to remove the price tag from the system, so I want to ask what would you recommend for removing bar codes and price stickers from CD's and in particular GameCube game discs. I asked my mother the other night to remove a sticker from Starfox Adventure, she didn't want to use any chemicals in case the damaged the disc, what would you suggest?

  • @Lachlant1984 I usually use rubbing alcohol. But it can be harsh if left on too long. I would just use water and see if you can get most of it off. Then try Windex or rubbing alcohol to get the last of it off.

  • you know that port in the back of the saturn thats where the battery is its pretty easy to replace to its just a cr2032 button batt you can buy them almost anywhere

  • SONIC X TREME

  • SWEET!

  • lucky bastard :D

  • lucky. those MOD CHIPS R LIKE $27.00

  • I will buy it off your for DOUBLE what you paid for it !

  • man yall luckly with mod chip 34 bucks and system is 69 99

  • @chickendance3333 you can even host modded game lobbys like prestige lobby in mw2 you can run games installed on your hard drive without having the actual game in the drive and more

  • @yomentony

    Whats jtagged

  • @chickendance3333 It´s a hardware modification of your Xbox 360. You can run Linux to use emus, you can use security copies of ALL regions! (yes, you can play Japan ONLY games!), homebrew and use as a media center like XBMC!! That´s great, isn´t it??

  • A few weeks ago i bought an Xbox 360 from a pawn shop for 100$ and the first thing that i noticed was that it was jtagged. It made my day

  • You are so lucky, man....

  • You should try it with an import game especially a japanese saturn game that requires a 1 or 4 mb ram expan card.

  • A Suggestion, use WD-40 Oil to remove this adhesive etc...

And this put more bright at the Plastic Pieces.

  • Awesome find!! I live in Canada and our value village never has cool stuff like that. But I keep checking back just in case!!

  • You can actually buy a Sega Saturn modchip right now for $25 bucks. I got mine about a year or two ago.

  • i jus t bought a dc yesterday at a value village and wen i brought it home i discoverd it was even modded such a sweet deal for 7 bucks

  • cool surprise, once I got a Playstation 2 with a '80 gb hard drive', what are the chances of that ; Sonic Jam seems awesome, "this is the first time I've seen gameplay for that game, thanks for that".

  • good for you , you lucky S.O.B!

  • cool

  • nice find a bit more on the 3d sonic for ya the game was called sonic xtreme it wasn't going to play like that simply put it mario galaxy for the Saturn its a well worth looking into its interesting. theys a demo of the game online somewhere but for the life og me i can't find it

  • Both of my saturn batteries are dead :(. But I am able to play burned games using a swap trick.

  • @EarthwormJim55 LOL what was Sega thinking saving the games to battery backup memory with a battery in the system... when that battery dies you loose all your save games! Crappy!

  • @MN12BIRD The only problem was it wasn't rechargable. But if you really want to get into the Saturn you need the memory back up cart anyway as you can only save a few games to the built in memory.

  • @MN12BIRD Yeah, I cant save anything :P hopefully it will be fixed soon.

  • @MN12BIRD all you have to do to keep your data in the internal memory is to switch the battery with the system powered on before the battery dies

  • @EarthwormJim55 The swap trick is bad for the CD drives motor man. To much wear and tear. You can get a new CR2032 battery for like $5 for two. Or you can mod that bitch to use two double A batteries. Toss some lithiums in there and that shit'll last for 20 years.

  • @EarthwormJim55 swap trick fucked my ps2 never diong that shit again

  • you know you cloud play the beta of sonic x-trem on to a cd.

  • Did you know that the Sega Saturn, like many other early CD consoles, including the CD-i, 3DO, CDTV, CD32, Sega CD and Jaguar CD, can play CD+G discs? It's a format used a lot in Karaoke.

  • Bonus!

  • That's awesome. You did good and well spotted.

  • @yaka1984 Hrm. Shouldn't really. I think the main reason it's hard on the DC is the way people rip the games and the order of files on the disk get all "fragmented" if you will and it makes the lens assembly have to go back and forth way more times in a game. Plus on top of that yeah it might be a little harder for the laser to read the burnt disk vs a real disk.

  • Great score, for ten bucks it's a steal! I see you have Pier Solar, also great stuff :) SCORE!!!

  • The same thing happed me, I picked up a PAL PS2 console secondhand for $45. I also opened it up to clean it and I noticed it had a mod chip installed. The console was modded to play NTSC games.

  • Man, I've been wanting a Sega Saturn for the longest time and you happen across one for 9.99 ! And whoa..... can you go back to that 3D Sonic game at a later date! I'd love to see a review for that one.

  • @pnroyal I second that request. Please review Sonic Jam more in-depth at a later date. Thanks!

  • A Sega Saturn for $9.99, with a mod chip. Thats a nice deal dude!!

  • Very cool find and to see it working like that was really cool cheers for sharing with us ;o)

  • My Suggesstions for games:

    1. Rayman (A beautiful, beautiful platformer!)

    2. Braindead 13 (An underrated Dragon's Lair-esque game)

    3. Radiant Silvergun (Good luck buying this cheap :P but if you get this imported, it's an AMAZING SHMUP!

  • wow thats some luck

ive wanted one of those next to my old PSX for years ;/

  • Great deal mate... *Goes to check Saturn, starts to sob* :)

  • nice pick up i think, the saturn is in good hands now!

    peace

  • All u need is the Sega Region Patcher. If u burn a non US game, patch it, burn it and ur good to go. No 4 in 1 cart needed.

  • 10 bucks, that's a shame, such a machine for such a low price, that's a shame.

  • About that comment when you said that they were really developing a 3d sonic game for the saturn, have you ever heard of the unreleased game called "Sonic Xtreme" that was supposed to bring sonic into 3D? Nice video!

  • wats the mod chip sposed to do?

  • Sonic Jam, imo, is the best way to play the original Sonic games. perfect controls and picture. an excellent collection.

  • Mod chips for saturn are a little expensive about (40 dollars). You got really lucky :)

  • wow that was an awesome find and for only 10 bucks!

  • That's amazing that you happened to get hold of a modded Saturn lol. Great video as always, can't wait until your next one!

  • Wow, I have to say.. I'm amazed :P

Lucky dude, lucky bastard XD Why do you guys in canda have all this awesome stuff :P

    /jealious as always xD

  • so incredibly jealous!! Amazing find... both cheap... and already modded... that is amazing

  • Yuji Naka said in an old interview in a UK Saturn Mag that Sonic World was just one of the experiments on how sonic would work in 3D. He had no interest in developing it into a full game for Saturn. Instead, he was concentrating on bringing sonic to the Dreamcast.

  • You Union Flag is backwards

  • Nice buy man with a little bit more luck you might find one with both mod chip and region switch,,

  • Just goes to show what you can find with random luck.

A little off of the saturn topic, Interesting thing about Sonic Jam is the MegaDrive game's ar not direct port's, from what i have read, they were built specificly for the Saturn which is why each gam has difficulty setting's and on Sonic 1 there is a spin dash move, which (Apart from that awful GBA version of Sonic 1) is the only version to have that.

  • @DeanoTheLegend87 Oh wow that's awesome. I assumed they were just emulation!

  • Dude, great deal and even better surprise! The Turn cleaned up nice too.

  • Holy Hell! You are SO lucky!!!!! Congrats!

  • Same mod I have done, you really lucked out, that chip typically only works on saturn models with round buttons (not oval) even then people have issues sometimes. get a 4in1 replay cart for extra ram and region loading. Worth about $40 but quickly getting more rare and hard to find. google saturn modchip racketboy.

  • get guardian heroes, you'll love it!

  • Haha love random finds like this ^_^ Just make sure the region is the same as your console or the backup won't boot, unless you run the ISO through a region converter.

  • Nice and very cheap =)

  • That's quite a deal, mod chip itself is worth at least $30 (they are becoming more scarce now). I picked up a chipped one off cl myself for $30, but I can't say I can beat $10. NICE FIND!

  • That is cool.

  • I take it that isn't your first Saturn? Of course when the Saturn was new people weren't downloading games of the internet, they'd usually borrow games off friends or from video retailers and copy them.

  • @Lachlant1984 No I have a model 1 Saturn with the oval buttons and now this one with the round buttons.

  • That mod chip isn't cheap.

But ito get annoying sticker off dude, just spray a bit of WD-40 on it and leave it for a few minutes. Cheaper than Goo Gone.

  • @LarryBundyJr Oh yeah WD40 works great for that too.

  • @LarryBundyJr Dude, try consolegoods, they still have 'em for £12 each!

  • the mod chip allows for the burned disk to play without needing to do the swap trick. the action replay cart is the best (and only trustworthy) card for imports. WORTH it for sure plus the save game backup. the mod chip you got is a major score because out of the few variations of saturn boards it can be tough getting them to work. the model 2 has much better success rate on the few variations of that board. now you can get yourself the ISOs of panzer dragoon saga.

  • what the hell does the mod chip do?

  • You're getting Sonic World confused with the cancelled, US developed Sonic X-Treme. Plenty of info can be found online about it after the developer started releasing it to the community.

I've always been under the impression that Sonic World was a 'proof of concept' for Sonic Adventure (since Sonic Team was one of the first to get the Dreamcast SDK), but I could be wrong.

  • Was it complete with the AV Cable and Power Cable?

  • What a great find! There are some great Saturn games to check out that would normally be expensive.

  • You know what's messed up? I went to value village today and found a playstation that Valuevillage claimed to be able to play burned games aswell.

    What a coincidence!

  • i just picked up sonic gems collection for the gamecube that compilation is really amazing, cause it has soniccd

  • Sega should of spent more time on new titles for the saturn instead of rehashing a sonic 1-3 collection.

  • I bet the guy who's mom found that in the attic and put it in a thrift store is super choked

  • thats an awesome find for that price you cant loose the only thing ive gotten close to like that would be my 2 N64s for $5 each and one has broken pins and didnt come with a controller.

  • I just did the ole swap trick in my Saturn, down side is, by the time i get it to work, i have scratched my CD-Rs so much that after 2 or 3 actual plays, i gotta reburn them LOL….did the same thing with PS1….the good ole days of swapping discs LOL

  • Wow thats amazing!

  • Wow I didn't know that you needed mod chips for the Saturn. I thought it was like the sega cd and dreamcast where you just needed a patched cd. Cool

  • You should download Panzer Dragoon and Radiant Silvergun. They are awesome games.

  • nice score!

  • Wow due, you are so lucky!! I've always wanted a Sega Saturn and you got one for only $10 with a modchip in it.... awesome!

  • that is nice. hope to get something like that sometime. maybe when i finally get a xbox it will have xbmc on it already.

  • They left it there for you to find .

  • youe one lucky sumabitch :)

  • man i got my sega Saturn from value village for $10 but no mod chip. Thats awesome.

  • hey man, that is one hell of a find! you cleaned that up pretty nice i might add! i wish there was a value village around here :(

  • was it CAD9.99?

  • Awesome! If you like shmups, I'd recommend downloading Thunder Force V. I don't have the Saturn version, but I do have the PS1 version, and man, does it look nice.

  • Best $10 spent this year! Im really jealous man!

  • I have an action replay cart 4m plus and that lets you play imports and is also a ram cart. You don't need to mod the Saturn.

  • cool

  • sweet find

  • In the words of Napoleon Dynamite. LUCKY!!

  • i bought a model for like 50 bucks and have been doing the swap trick for a while now. yes, it could break it, but burning PDS is cheaper that buying it at 250$.

  • Haha, hilariously awesome. Not that those chips are super expensive, but... what are the chances!?!?!?

Yeah, that wire to the 5v lead of the PSU is necessary for the chip, as I don't think the disc drive receives power through the ribbon cable, if I remember correctly.

It's a shame SS mod chips won't allow for imports.

  • Frigging sweet find! I've been meaning to mod my Saturn(s) for the longest time now, but just never got around to it. Man, make me wanna go and check out the couple cheap Saturns they have at the local pawn shops, hehe

  • @phreakindee LOL and than you have like 20 Saturns in your closet! Like when I tried to find one of those Famicom adapters inside Gyromite. Nope, nope, nope, nope... forget this!

  • Would that increase its value do you think? I mean that must be pretty rare.

  • @thefadedline Oh yeah for sure the mod chip is worth as much as the Saturn. It would cost you $35-40 to get the mod chip plus having to install it.

  • Chipped Saturn FTW!

  • Ah isn't that nice .. added bonus :)

  • wow thats an sweet deal man :D

  • Saturn Modchips cost about $30, and they are still being made today.

  • Pretty cool, nice deal! Not often you find that people who take the time to mod a system would sell it off like that...

  • @videogametech1 Yeah it still wont play Imports right?

  • @MN12BIRD

No, thanks to the mod chip will allow imports. But there are certain games which require the extra ram to allow the game to run. Xmen VS Street Fighter is one such game.

  • @MN12BIRD You can change the region of any saturn isos using an free app called Saturn Region Patcher its from Madroms which he has a youtube page to check out too.

  • @X3CuT1oNR Oh that's cool.

  • That's pretty wild! Never even knew about that Sonic Game. Reminds me of Mario 64. I'd love to check that out. But then, finding Saturn Games here in Canada is like trying to find gold.

  • Jake man, bad ass brother that you found a sega saturn with a mod chip :) You are one lucky guy! How many other saturns were there? Because you picked the right one! Also that sonic game looks very impressive with the 3D graphics! Anysways, GREAT find!

  • @dawgchyper91 Oh it was the only Saturn there. You don't see Saturns around there too often really.

  • @MN12BIRD Then that really makes it more awesome! :)

  • Lucky you. Can it play imports as well or only NTSC games (originals and copies)?

  • @theimporter I think it still only plays American games now and not Imports. This is just to play backups as far as I know.

  • hey there's a game called sonic x-treme it's a 3d sonic game for the saturn but it never got released. You should check out some gameplay of it on youtube it look's pretty impressive if you ask me.

  • Amazing pick up!!!

  • You can also play the lock-on games, as well as Time Attack and Easy modes :D. One new addition is the ability to play Knuckles in Sonic 1

  • cool i wonder if the mod chip will allow ps1 games to play on it =D

  • This happened to me with my old ps1! I wish i still had it. :(

  • when this thing was out who had a cd burner on their computer that could burn the games? heck, how did they even download a game on a dialup connection!

  • @NerdHelpDesk

    A lot of people did.

Most people didn't download their games, they just borrowed them from friends, ripped them, burned the files to a disc, and gave the original game back.

They also would just rent them.

  • @NerdHelpDesk Yeah good point. No one in 1994 obviously did but the Mod Chips didn't really come out until 1998 or so. By then the Saturn was pretty much dead but the PS1 was strong. That's why I'm guessing mod chips for the Saturn must not be as common. I remember everyone getting their PS1's modded in the late 90's but no one cared about the poor Saturn by then.

  • If you ever need to get a sticker/price tag off of anything then buy goo gone. You can find it cheep at dollars stores or on the internet.

  • @XxBroBuzzxX Yeah I heard that stuff works awesome. I usually just use alcohol and it works alright.

  • I went to a local value village lol they had a model 1 genesis for 49.99... i just laughed and walked away lol no cables or anything lmao though i was alittle disappointed

  • @QutaHunter Yeah sometimes there on crack. Must just depend on the store and who's working when they price things.

  • @MN12BIRD Yeah for real, your lucky dude always getting great deals. Thanks for the reply by the way!

  • thats awesome jake! I bought a japanese saturn off ebay a few months ago and it also had a chip installed that I didnt even know about when I bought it.

  • @mevans1182 Cool so you can play all those imports now!
