Winter Solstice Lunar Eclipse 2010

SILLY ME , Those are Stars that are moving ! this is a time lapse video , on further inspection there are loads of white dots in the frame and they all move at a relative pace and speed

there are 2 white dots the second white dot is below the top one and fades in and out of the picture , look below the main white dot about an inch and to the right a bit , they look like aeroplanes

top video ... I watched the same event in Huddesfield(UK) what a awesome sight man . the moon was very low in the sky as it started a little after 6 am.. by the time it went total it the moon was just setting . 2098 for the next lunar eclipse on the winter solstice..Car't wait .....

I saw this in Florida. It was like being in a planetarium. The moon was right over our heads. It was crystal clear, not ONE cloud in the sky. And 3-4 shootings stars as the moon turned red over Orion's club. I feel so lucky to have witnessed all these events.

Thank you!! We had complete cloud coverage here so couldn't see the moon at all, but the sky got really bright orange. I stood in the middle of the street at 12:30 AM and it was as bright as the day. So cool!!

How did you get it to turn red? I watched the eclipse and it was just pitch black, the shaded region never ever turned red or any other color but black.

Are you using some light amplification camera? I looked with my binoculars and you could see a damn thing.

@lifeofarmenia When a lunar eclipse occurs, its because the earth gets between the sun's rays and the moon (which of course is much smaller than earth. When the earth covers ALL of the sun's light (as you can gradually see happening as the moon is covered in a shadow) The sun's light actually BENDS through the earth's atmosphere and gets refracted onto the moon's surface. Thus, the moon turns red. Kinda like a glass prism turning regular white light into a rainbow.

the scientists knew this was gonna happen for years - you would think that someone would suggest a small camera/eq (whatever) be sent to the moon to record the view from the other angle - to look back a the Earth and see the EARTH ECLIPSE the SUN - and study the atmosphere in spectral analysis. I am sure that some schools/universities or astronomy clubs would get behind this idea and somehow make it happen....
