I remember playing this game when i was like 4 or 5 years old brings good old memories. Super Mario Bros, Legend of Zelda, Shenmue, Panzer Dragoon all this good old games FTW
Does anyone remember a side scrolling shooter for NES, it was a bike with guns, you could pick up some more weapons along the way. I played it long time ago and don't remember its name.
This is an excellent review. I gotta get more games like this where everything is just so simple, none of that uploading online, trophy achievement crap.
Is there a reason you talk like a half assed William Shatner? I'm honestly asking. Is that the way you normally talk or is there some shoddy audio editing going on here for some sort of longstanding joke I am not aware of?
lol ive been playing this game on my 3ds for a while now and I JUST found out that there's a second acceleration button that makes you accellerate faster
IDK its weird, im 14. And my dad grew up with these games, and the irony is that, I am the one that reminds him of these games from his childhood. I know or at least remember more NES games than he does.
Also it's not going to be the original game, but a 3D remake. I suspect it will be based on the 3DS Music screensaver "update" of the game... i think it will be rendered playable.
You should have re-created the course from battletoads. Yeah, you know what I'm talking about. Just kidding, love the vids man. Keep 'em coming. Oh yeah, and definitely more beer. May I suggest some dunkelweiss with your next wolfenstein review?
Hey Mike what you didn't know is that if you tick with your back wheel the wheel in the front of your opponent's bike he crashes...that's how i use to play :) back in ...96
@Qwertyguy86 I obviously know they're famous and popular, but I meant that they seem to be entirely different games from opposing genres. It'd be like me recommending somebody to play Burnout because they like CoD. See what I mean? It just struck me as a strange comment, that's all.
@Qwertyguy86 I obviously know they're famous and popular, but I meant that they seem to be entirely different games from opposing genres. It'd be like me recommending somebody to play Burnout because they like CoD. See what I mean? It just struck me as a strange comment, that's all.
I used to play this game back then SO MUCH and to be honest, it's in my personal top 10 most entertaining NES games. But funny thing, when I played it as a kid I didn't even know what internet was, let alone thinking I'd be watching a review about it on some video sharing site. How fast things change these days *sigh*
Great review...........could you possibly review "Enduro Racer" on the Sega Master System? One of my favorite all time games and its similiar (but different) then this classic.
I've never played this game or seen actual game play (On TV not Youtube) I've seen a parody of it (Robot Chicken), But it looks like a fun game, I'm even impressed that it has a level design for an NES Game. I may get it on the Virtual Console if I have the points
wow, is it just coincidence or is CGR reviewing all my favourite games at the moment?????? the only thing which could ever make CGR better is a banjo kazooie review!!!
i wish they had nitros in this game. motocross maniacs, which really is excitebike 2, had that feature. i wonder if nintendo could have done LOOPS in this game akin to sonic 2 on the genesis...
Wait wait... There was an original game boy version of this? I can remember Motocross Maniacs by Konami/Ultra, and the GBA and eReader had versions too, but I don't think there was ever an official Game Boy Excitebike release before the GBA.... just sayin'.
Believe it or not, the first time I played this game was on the original Animal Crossing... infact, that's where I played Balloon Fight for the first time, as well. Both were great fun. I would always try to beat all the tracks on Excite Bike but it's pretty difficult... fun nonetheless.
I remember my friends and I trying to convince ourselves that the Save/Load feature actually worked. We'd sit there waiting for it to "save" a track, but all it was doing was timing out trying to communicate with a disk drive that didn't exist over here.
There's no battery save or RAM in these cartridges either. The feature is simply nonfunctional. I wonder if the NTSC game manual makes any reference to the disk drive, but if it did I'm surprised I didn't hear about it back then.
I LOVED playing this game, I always overheated the engine when I played. maybe i'll dig up my Jnes emulator and rom and play this. Also remember making an impossible course like you did here. I like the sound the game makes when you switch lanes.
@MikePitcher No, I'm pretty sure Mark did. And even so, I don't really care, just wanted to point it out. If this was a remake, it was a damn good one.
This is one of the few videos you've done on a game that I actually remember playing! I think one of the most nostalgic things about these games is definitely the sound generated from the bike itself and other miscellaneous things. Awesome.
Yes, the true joy of Excitebike was making torture courses. My favorite thing to do was just place a bunch of "R's" (I believe that's it, the giant mountainous obstacle) one after the other...after the other...after the other...forever. And also for fun you could place a whole bunch of arrows leading up to an H.
I'm not sure if the Nintendo version actually had it, but the arcade version had "Excitebike" mode which never overheated. The bike would switch to Black/Yellow/Red colors after wrecking 7 dudes without crashing.... He forgot to mention that. -Cheers!
@BatoGamer It does work, but the cartridge had a limited save battery, so eventually it would corrupt or erase your saves at some point. However, if you play the VC or rom version, the save will work better.
@BatoGamer Yes. The world will know. It was because, back in those days, Nintendo was all so very optimisting about releasing this thing called...a disc drive...to America. This would have meant that games could -save- and -load- files from -programmable series- carts, like Excite Bike. It would also mean that one could buy a disc at a major game store, stick it into a store side machine and buy pure software games at low, low prices! (What a concept. Why didn't that...oh, yea. Internet!)
I remember this game. It's one of the first console games I ever played. It was around 1995 -- so a while after its time. I was five, over at a friends house and my friend asked his dad if we could get the video games out, it probably belonged to his Dad.
