These are my favorite buns to get at dim sum. Now that I live in Germany, I can't get these so I went on a mission to learn how to make them. I used another recipe that didn't turn out at all. I'm going to try this recipe and hope that it comes out perfect because I'm really craving them! Thanks for sharing.
Tried making this but my dough didn't turn out. I tried to convert the measurements to cup rather than grams or ounce and I guess I must have done the wrong measurements. Could you send me the ingredient measurements in cup format? Thanks.
the first time i made these, i accidently burnt them.. but second time around they came out super soft and yummy! All my friends love them, and my mom who doesn't like any of the stuff I bake actually loves them too! Thank you for sharing this recipe :D

@RockenBoysGirls Hi, which part? is it dry yeast , sugar and warm milk ? or 3;35 cover with wet cloth and let it rise in warm place foe 1 1/2 hours? Please

I absolutely love eating these! I'm going to make them on Saturday! It's really cool to find someone on YouTube who also speaks my language! (although Cantonese is my 2nd language) but just to make sure, do I have to cover the dough with a damp cloth and wait another 1 1/2 hours after rolling them out into 13 balls? Thanks!
thanks for u recipe!I love pineapple bun!!!!Is been a while l eat it,so I really miss it.Now I will try to make by my self!!!!!:)thanks. Your video is amazing is easy to understand. Keep going!!!
Hi, I tried making it twice and it didn't look like how yours came out. The top part (which is my favorite part) was really sticky when I took it out the fridge. Did I not put enough flour? I followed the recipe and double checked everything
@muumuuatl Hi, you are right. The top part is kind of sticky. In the video I put some flour on the bowl before I press it thin. The flour is depending on the waether, sometimes it will need a little more or less water, when it is too sticky, you can add a little more flour. Please :-)
OMG I love pineapple buns since childhood from HK. I can't wait till I get my hands on to make them in my kitchen! My most favorite bun. Hope I won't mess up.. Thank you for sharing your secret recipe! :)

hi, i have a question, the buns i made turned out kind of dense, is there a way to correct that? also, when you make the dough for the bread, how sticky should it end up being? mine was a little dry so i added more milk but when i made smaller balls there were cracks because the dough refused to stick together.
@clarakyme Hi, I don't understand why/ Did you follow my ingredients and instructions. These dough need knead long time. I made it like normal soft dough and wasn't sticky, my hand is dry. Please try it again <3
This is a great detailed video. Thanks a lot!! Out of all HK/chinese buns, Bor Lor Bao is my favourite. Im gonna try when i get the chance. What kinda of flour is that? Self Raising flour?
@Kiasko Hi, for the Topping: I used 140 gram all purpose flour and 2 tsp baking powder. For the buns 360 gram also all purpose flour and 3 tsp dry yeast :-D
Thanks for your reply. The buns are done now. They look fine, but the dry yeast taste is pretty stong. Any ideas what caused that? Thanks for your great video!

@1cherrylane Wow that is an interesting combination. I never tried that before but I hope it will taste good. Maybe you can tell us how it worked. I really hope you will like it. Thanks ^^
@pamintuanroseanne Hi yes it is. Sieved flour is flour that you pass through a kitchen sieve so there will not be any lumps. Hope you will like the pineapple buns ^^
Hey again, I made the pineapple buns yesterday! It was very nice, I loved the topping. Is there anyway to preserve the buns? Because when i ate one today, it was hard. Did i do something wrong?
Hi, I was wondering. When do you place the small bowl of water in the oven? Do i put it in when it is baking, when it is cooling down in the oven for 10 minutes or somewhere in between?
How much sugar do you use for the bun dough? You say 2 tsp, but in the video it looks like you add more in the flour mixture after you also add some in the milk, yeast, and sugar mixture in the beginning. Just a little confused. Please clarify. Thank you! I can't wait to try the recipe!!
@emilyxextreme First I form a smooth dough, then wrap it with plastic wrap and put in fridge, after takeing it out I divide it in 12 pieces and roll it. Finally I put it on top of the buns.
Thank-you for posting your recipe. I just returned from my first trip to Hong Kong and I am addicted to the pineapple buns with the blueberry jam filling. The only bakery that had these were by the Star Ferry terminal on the Kowloon side. I also found some that had red bean paste inside but they didn't taste as good as the blueberry ones. I will try making your recipe with blueberry sauce on the inside.
Wow! I hope to be able to make this one day... its my FAVORITE bun to get when we eat dim sum. I have a question... the ones that I have eaten have a filling... does this one have one? What kind of filling does pineapple buns usually have? Is it hard to make? Thanks so much!

Hi Maria! I made it today and it was delicious!! Both my topping and my buns were too moist, I think it's because I used extra large eggs, but I added a bit more flour and everything worked out fine! Sooo good! I will definitely try to make this once a week now hehe thanks! ^^
I think the bitter taste in some parts of the bun comes from the yeast. You have to make sure to mix it well so that the yeast is completly dissolved.
Because you have a good recipe! And you know what? I ate already all buns! Ymmy!!! (ps: I am writing this massage in my Ipod, so I can't write in chinese)
Thank you so much!!! I am so homesick since I live so far from my mom and I am so far from Chinatown. Now I can learn to do some of these traditional hong kong food from you. Thank you so very much!!! Your instruction are so clear and easy to understand!!

This looks delicious and i want to make it, but i have a question, i found two types of flour in my cabinet. One says bleached and the other says unbleached. Which one should i use? or does it matter?

Hi, 乾發子, dry yeast in english, is sold in supermarket and used baking cake or bread, it is a leavening agent, so that the dough is loose and rises. Thank you

Hi, does the bread taste bitter or the topping?
1. if the topping tastes bitter, you used too much baking powder, don't use more than 2 tsp baking powder for 140 gram flour.
2. the bread should be very soft, but the yeast needs a lot of time to rise. Try to exactly follow the instruction of my video.
It should work out perfect.

Hi, 乾發子, dry yeast in english, is sold in supermarket and used baking cake or bread, it is a leavening agent, so that the dough is loose and rises. Thank you
