I'm going to try this recipe and hope that it comes out perfect because I'm really craving them! Thanks for sharing.

  • Tried making this but my dough didn't turn out. I tried to convert the measurements to cup rather than grams or ounce and I guess I must have done the wrong measurements. Could you send me the ingredient measurements in cup format? Thanks.

  • I absolutely love eating these! I'm going to make them on Saturday! It's really cool to find someone on YouTube who also speaks my language! (although Cantonese is my 2nd language) but just to make sure, do I have to cover the dough with a damp cloth and wait another 1 1/2 hours after rolling them out into 13 balls? Thanks!

  • @Sho4eva1251982 Hi, yes, please cover the dough with a damp cloth and wait another 1 1/2 hours after rolling them out into 12 balls :-)

  • @citroncheesecake Hi, thank you so much for your support. Have a nice day ^^

  • i follow ur steps then the buns very hard cannot be eaten... :(

  • @Lorrainesfk Hi, I think probably the dough did not rise enough before you baked it, it should rise almost double in size :-)

  • hi aunty, mine didn't rise, what could I have done wrong?

  • @shnNaynay Hi, 1 ) add warm milk if the milk too hot, dry yeast will dead = not rise. 2 ) rising place not warm also the reason not rise :-)

  • @wantanmien thank you, I will try again today =)

  • Mmmm delicious. How do you make Ying Yung Bao? and Honey bun and red bean buns?

  • hi

could you tell me why my dough ends up with lots of cracks after it sit for 1 1/2 hours? it rises out but has cracks.

  • @Dec0nFr0st Hi, did you cover with wet cloth? when it cracks should be too dry :-)

  • @wantanmien hi, I did, I tried again today and I used 200ml warm milk instead and no crack, maybe is the weather :) thanks for reply.

  • @Dec0nFr0st Hi, you are welcome. Thank you that you like my recipe :-)

  • Hi, I tried making it twice and it didn't look like how yours came out. The top part (which is my favorite part) was really sticky when I took it out the fridge. Did I not put enough flour? I followed the recipe and double checked everything

  • @muumuuatl Hi, you are right. The top part is kind of sticky. In the video I put some flour on the bowl before I press it thin. The flour is depending on the waether, sometimes it will need a little more or less water, when it is too sticky, you can add a little more flour. Please :-)

  • OMG I love pineapple buns since childhood from HK. I can't wait till I get my hands on to make them in my kitchen! My most favorite bun. Hope I won't mess up.. Thank you for sharing your secret recipe! :)

  • @Ainominoko Hi Jenny, You are welcome. I am very happy that you like my recipe <3

  • Would you please post a more comprehensive set of instructions per your video? I printed your instructions out, but they leave me clueless when I'm trying to work off of the sheet.

  • hello

does it have to be sieved flour?

can I use a different flour?

  • @Takako2Konjo Hi, to sieve flour too get rid off all of the lumps. I only know to use all purpose flour for this buns :-)

  • @wantanmien

what do you mean et rid off all of the lumps?

  • @Takako2Konjo Hi, sometime the flour had little white dots in even sugar has lumps in it too :-)

  • @wantanmien

oh so when should i get rid of the lumps?

  • @Takako2Konjo Hi, before you make the dough :-)

  • hi, i have a question, the buns i made turned out kind of dense, is there a way to correct that? also, when you make the dough for the bread, how sticky should it end up being? mine was a little dry so i added more milk but when i made smaller balls there were cracks because the dough refused to stick together.

  • @clarakyme Hi, I don't understand why/ Did you follow my ingredients and instructions. These dough need knead long time. I made it like normal soft dough and wasn't sticky, my hand is dry. Please try it again <3

  • wow! this is great! my sis loves bo lo bao so i can make some for her next time i go back home ^^

do you have a recipe for gai mei bao? (鸡尾包 - is that how you write it? gah been too long)

I will put it on my request list. It may take some time until I can make a video :-)

  • This is a great detailed video. Thanks a lot!! Out of all HK/chinese buns, Bor Lor Bao is my favourite. Im gonna try when i get the chance. What kinda of flour is that? Self Raising flour?

  • @Kiasko Hi, for the Topping: I used 140 gram all purpose flour and 2 tsp baking powder. For the buns 360 gram also all purpose flour and 3 tsp dry yeast :-D

  • Wantanmien, my dough is awfully try, is there any way I can fix it? Thanks!

  • Sorry, I meant dry.

  • @TheJJmom Hi, You can add some more warm milk :-)

  • Thanks for your reply. The buns are done now. They look fine, but the dry yeast taste is pretty stong. Any ideas what caused that? Thanks for your great video!

  • @TheJJmom Hi, next time try add 2 tsp dry yeast and 2 tsp baking powder. Please <3

  • Can you translate please?

  • @xilybestfrieend Hi, there are english annotations in the video. They are just like english subtitles and I also translated the list of ingredients and you can find it in the video description box under the video. I hope it helps ^^

  • @pamintuanroseanne Hi yes it is. Sieved flour is flour that you pass through a kitchen sieve so there will not be any lumps. Hope you will like the pineapple buns ^^

  • you are simply awesome :)

  • @xPocky Thank you <3

  • Hi, I made these buns last week and they were awesome!

I halved all the ingredients and made 6, since we are only 3 at home. Otherwise I didn't change anything else! thanks so much :)

  • Mmmmm i love these buns!!! I live in Reno Nv.

    I'm craving for it badly!

  • @rosehouse32 At the moment I don't have but I will try to look for some recipes.

  • @wantanmien Thank you! Pls info me when you've it available, I'm not here in regularly bases.

  • I love it!

  • @leungnatt17 Thank you so much.

  • Hey again, I made the pineapple buns yesterday! It was very nice, I loved the topping. Is there anyway to preserve the buns? Because when i ate one today, it was hard. Did i do something wrong?

  • @KiiroKame Hi, Put them in the freezer if you cannot finish them and warm them up in the microwave when you want to eat them.

  • Hi, I was wondering. When do you place the small bowl of water in the oven? Do i put it in when it is baking, when it is cooling down in the oven for 10 minutes or somewhere in between?

  • @KiiroKame Hi, I place the small bowl of water in the oven when I put the Buns in.

  • How much sugar do you use for the bun dough? You say 2 tsp, but in the video it looks like you add more in the flour mixture after you also add some in the milk, yeast, and sugar mixture in the beginning. Just a little confused. Please clarify. Thank you! I can't wait to try the recipe!!

  • @cuppycakefour4 All together it is 3,5 tsp sugar in the dough, ( 2 tsp in the milk/ dry yeast and 1, 5 tsp sugar in the flour ).

  • This is so helpful~~ thnx alot!! ^^

  • @jcyoshi You are welcome.

  • Thanks for making this video. I've always wanted to learn how to make pineapple buns!

    I was just wondering.

For the topping, do you mix it until it forms a dough and then roll it and place it on the plastic wrap?

And do you wrap it with the plastic wrap or just place it on it and put it in the fridge?

    Thanks!

  • @emilyxextreme First I form a smooth dough, then wrap it with plastic wrap and put in fridge, after takeing it out I divide it in 12 pieces and roll it. Finally I put it on top of the buns.

  • Thank-you for posting your recipe. I just returned from my first trip to Hong Kong and I am addicted to the pineapple buns with the blueberry jam filling. The only bakery that had these were by the Star Ferry terminal on the Kowloon side. I also found some that had red bean paste inside but they didn't taste as good as the blueberry ones. I will try making your recipe with blueberry sauce on the inside.

  • @zgxl04 Thank you for trying my recipe. Would love to hear your feedback after you try making the buns. Happy Easter to you.

  • I think she means the cocos or ananas filling..

  • Thanks for telling me. I have never tried those before.

  • Wow! I hope to be able to make this one day... its my FAVORITE bun to get when we eat dim sum. I have a question... the ones that I have eaten have a filling... does this one have one? What kind of filling does pineapple buns usually have? Is it hard to make? Thanks so much!

  • Hi, the pineapple buns I know have no filling only butter, I don't know what kind of filling you mean, are you sure they are pineapple buns ?

  • hi wantanmien!

Thank u so much for your recipe!

I've tried that today but the bread didn't rise... what should I do?

  • There are several reasons why the bread won't rise. I recken you did not put the dough in a warm place for 1,5 hours after covering with wet cloth. Also too much oil or butter will prevent the yeast from rising. Please try to follow my instructions as exact as possible. I am sure your pineapple buns will come out great.

  • this is my favourite type of chinese bread, really want to try make it!!! :D

  • I hope you will try it and tell me if you liked it.

  • Hi there, So I'm watching the vid now but can't find the english recipe I only see the Chinese 1 @ the right side. Where can I find the English 1? thanks in advance!

  • Hi, when you click more info on the right and then scroll down you can see it. It is just under the chinese recipe :-)

Thank you for watching my video and I hope your pineapple buns will be very tasty! ^^

  • Hi, I have a question. What kind of flour do you use? We have so many kinds in here (US) such as high gluten flour / low gluten flour / bread flour / cake flour or ALL purpose flour? I guess you are using ALL purpose flour. Please let me know so that I can try out your receipe. Thanks.

  • I used all purpose flour, I am very happy you try my recipe. Please tell me the result. Happy chinese new year to you.

  • Hi Maria! I made it today and it was delicious!! Both my topping and my buns were too moist, I think it's because I used extra large eggs, but I added a bit more flour and everything worked out fine! Sooo good! I will definitely try to make this once a week now hehe thanks! ^^

  • @dawlz Hi, I am glad, it worked out for you.

  • i did it again today, 點樣知道yeast is completely dissolved?

  • Comment removed

  • the topping taste good.

but my bread taste bitter in some part. not the whole bun.

  • I think the bitter taste in some parts of the bun comes from the yeast. You have to make sure to mix it well so that the yeast is completly dissolved.

  • the bread taste like bitter n hard. is that something i did wrong?

  • Hi, does the bread taste bitter or the topping?

    1. if the topping tastes bitter, you used too much baking powder, don't use more than 2 tsp baking powder for 140 gram flour.

    2. the bread should be very soft, but the yeast needs a lot of time to rise. Try to exactly follow the instruction of my video.

    It should work out perfect.

  • Because you have a good recipe! And you know what? I ate already all buns! Ymmy!!! (ps: I am writing this massage in my Ipod, so I can't write in chinese)

  • WOW, you ate all? Oh, I am very happy that you like my recipe, and I hope you like my other recipes too. Thanks

  • Of course I will like all of your recipes o^_^o

  • Thank you so much!!! I am so homesick since I live so far from my mom and I am so far from Chinatown. Now I can learn to do some of these traditional hong kong food from you. Thank you so very much!!! Your instruction are so clear and easy to understand!!

  • This looks delicious and i want to make it, but i have a question, i found two types of flour in my cabinet. One says bleached and the other says unbleached. Which one should i use? or does it matter?

  • Thank you. I am glad you like my recipes, where is your home ? maybe you will learn some chinese through my videos :)

  • When you mean sieved flour, do you mean flour that's measured then sieved, or flour that's sieved then measured?

  • Hi, I mean flour that's measured then sieved.

  • what kind of dry yeast did you use? is it rapid-rise dry yeast? or active dry yeast? is any okay?

  • Hi, you can use any kind of dry yeast.

  • wow..... youeally did make a video of this..!! thank you sooooo much!!! by the way, what is 乾發子?? and where can you get it?

  • Hi, 乾發子, dry yeast in english, is sold in supermarket and used baking cake or bread, it is a leavening agent, so that the dough is loose and rises. Thank you

  • @cutiepie0719 It's yeast, also read the red ban which has the details of the recipe just under the video.

  • @cutiepie0719 are you talking about the dry yeast? well if your in the US you can find it in WALMART or FOOD 4 LESS or any supermarkets:)

  • @cutiepie0719 ...... 乾發子 = dry yeast

  • @cutiepie0719

if i remember my chinese correctly it's active dry yeast

  • i wanna ask... is the wet cloth that you use to cover the "flour ball" cold or hot at the beginning? Thank you very much for sharing the video!!

  • Hi, you are welcome.

For the wet cloth I use lukewarm water.

  • Wow, you can make pineapple buns !! Yummy !!

  • Thanks for the video!

  • You are welcome.
