  • this is proper sick, because clearly the guy has brass buttons, if anything explodes, his arse is attached to the thing going Boom. awesome Innovation.

  • unique? did anyone watch Centurions? Millions of kids had a physics lesson by watching cartoons, this is now engineered for people, if someone had given me a tonne of cash when I was 15 i'd have made unbelievable shit.

  • To infinity, and beyond!!

  • he´s remind me cartoon the centurions

  • Cette vidéo est très émouvante. Un homme simple, et humble, juste passionné. Merci de nous faire partager votre passion et votre rêve, C'est magnifique.

  • Yves Rossy - Brilliant! I believe he used to be Swiss Air Force pilot too! One day we will all have wings.

  • can you imagine flying one?! it would be sooo amazing

  • One Very Brave Man that we can all look up to to follow our Dreams~!!

  • ITS BUZZ LIGHTYEAR!!!

  • Bravo Yves !

J'aimerais te voir voler , ca doit etre impressionnant a faire mais aussi a regarder !

  • Just truly amazing. Just really imagine what that must have felt like, everything went simmingly.

  • Crazy but i can imagine that government scientist are beyond this point.

  • Man... nine minutes of sustained flight at 180 mph over the English Channel! Yves is a genius!

  • How did he extend the wingtips?

    (I could'nt here any sound.)

  • Does anyone know how fast he was going?

  • He was going 180miles per hour

  • :0. That is amazing! I want one! LOL

  • @vert98 they fold down when he jumps out the plain

  • i think it was actually 180km/h

  • Great footage; insipid chatter from the two 'commentators'. NO DATA on altitude, speed, wind direction, the equipment, the flier's strategy. Too bad.

  • pero no puede despegar ni aterrizar

  • every general in the world must be thinking hmmm how do we put a machine gun on to that Frenchie!

  • is it a bird? is it a plane? NO its a swiss dude with a rocket up his ass!!! lol

seriously though WHAT A GUY 5*

  • The Bell X-1 (first plane to break speed of sound) was carried up by a B-29 and dropped out the bomb bay. Are you going to say it wasn't really flying?

Yves used a plane to get airborne, but once he got going, he was flying, maintaining and increasing his altitude.

  • @MamiyaOtaru they need to make a model that can take off from ground level and fly further than the channel. market them to the rich and famous for 1 mil easy.

  • Man that is way cool he should have the rocket man of elton john for his theam song

  • How about Flight of the Icarus. By Iron Maiden.

  • really?

  • I sure hope he had his passport with him...

  • golly, i wouldn't mind flying to school instead of taking the bus.

  • Dam, live the dream

  • he is not flying, he is falling, WITH STYLE!!!!!

  • Go BUZZ:))

  • Much respect to Yves Rossy. One cool dude.

  • Too bad it's not a song.

  • NOT human powered.

  • You sure about that? what about brain power? can you do it? Till you can shut up

  • Comment removed

  • Are? You? Stupid?

  • Rather ,should ask yourself that question.Obviously it may be a misnomer when It came to your brainpower to deduct my conclusion to that point.Try using your noggin to see what my point could be rather than just calling me stupid when in fact it very well could be you are the ignorant one here.

  • Seriously, I can already picture covert operations with these human jets painted and formed with stealth technology. Even though I don't think it will show up on radar because it's already small enough like HALO jumpers....

    OH man....

  • talkin about arriving in style i mean really, hes arriving like a god sent egle haha i love it

  • Why do they call him "fusion-man" ?

    Isn't he "jet-man"?

  • Coz it´s a fusion between single Wings and a Man...

  • watch this video and then watch that new iphone jetman video...they are spot on

  • should his wing tip be flipped up like that?

  • I can't watch this with the sound on.

  • wow this french-swiss man is amazing!!!

  • that's not flying that's falling with style...

  • "he is making his climb"

Last I heard you don't fall up.

  • Ça me tire les larmes... M. Rossy, vous avez toute mon admiration!

    Alain à Québec, Qc, Canada

  • absolutely amazing!

    a true pioneer.

  • amazing video... it would be cool to try this 8-)

  • why didnt this get more coverage? incredible.

  • *cough* becasue "they" dont want us to know aobu things like this *cough*

  • lol! good one and probably true, lol

  • Wouldn't that be insane! Bad ass!

  • thats really cool

  • He made it all the way he even had enough time to show off a little. Parachutes have at best like a 5:1 glider ratio and thats being optimistic. If you'll notice he does some spirals and stuff so he is obviousley not going for the best glide.

  • Cool sh1t :-)

  • and they said "if man was meant to fly he'd have been born with wings" screw that lets MAKE wings! Yves Rossy u r makin history congrats!

  • What an impressive display by Yves! Ive read his next step is to go VTOL. It could be done with small rocket engines providing supplementary very high thrust for about 15 seconds. But the problem is how to control the thrust directionally until sufficient speed is built up to the point where the aerodynamics of the wing kick fully into play. But hey, Im sure that Yves will come up with something sooner or later. The man is a genuine inspiration.

  • he could probably manage a horizontal takeoff if he were to have some like wheels on the wing and a couple down on his feet, cause the other way for horisontal, he'd have to run it up to speed (i dont think hes that fast)

but this thing is still epically awesome, id totally get 1 if they ever came on the market

  • damn he's great! the military can actually use this. like for special forces, they can have special forces use this in order to penetrate enemy airspace so the actual cargo plane won't have to enter. all they have to do is drop off the winged special forces and its up to them to travel inside and parachute behind enemy lines during the dark. that would be so cooL! haha

  • So what he deployed the the parachute before he reached the shore line, he was on the English coast line anyways technically so yea, stfu.

  • fucking awesome!!

  • oh just one more comment to the doubters.. if this dude had actually crossed the english channel (i.e. reached the shoreline) in his jetcraft prior to his parachute (in other words, he didn't deploy his parachute until after he had "accomplished the feat" of traversing the channel SHORE TO SHORE then why didn't the announces here make note of the point where the airborne jet dude, in his jetcraft, crossed the shore line? heh..

  • anyway i've presented my point sufficiently with no hard feelings attached. it's up to the public whether they want to be critically fair in granting this guy accomplishment for what he has actually achieved versus the landmark accomplishment he aimed for. It's up to you, the person reading this comment, to determine whether you think this guy actually "traversed the english channel via jet" if part of the distance was traversed after he parachuted. OK Over and OUT.

  • get the big 'subscribe to my videos' horrible gray bar off the bottom.. you ripped it off anyway...argh!

  • You go to revolutionize the future of aviation appreciate you're a genius!

  • Imagine thousands of special forces troops wearing jet wings bailing out over the Persian Gulf, cruising hundreds of miles over Iran and landing right on top of a nuclear facility and going into action.

The terrorists wouldn't know what hit them!

    HOT DOG!

  • awesome

  • As many said before: It is amazing.

However what Yves does is also logical.

Isn't it similar to the first "flight" performed by Otto Lilienthal?

  • Un'impresa storica !

  • Fantástico! Fiquei impressionado com sua habilidade. É um exemplo para todos, não só por sua façanha -que é espetacular- mas sim pela sua personalidade. Perseverante como poucos conseguem ser!

  • Exatamente!

  • wtf crazy man!!!!!!

    we love it!

  • Icarus flew from the ground up before falling to his death. This guy is one crazy hombre, but hats off to him for doing it. History was made. Now all we have to wait for is the military buying this up (by buying I mean stealing and making him shut up) and attaching some big old bombs to the wings. Flying man of death.

  • yep sad but true... and with the bionic "exoskelliton" the military would be very happy.

Still providing its on "dumb soldiers" and not on dolphins everyone will be happy eh?

  • fantastic flight though..well done yves one hell of a guy! and his crew too!

  • Nah mate, hes french, the yank army cant touch it without kicking up a fuss

  • why whould they want to???? they will build on of thoes for themselfs

  • He's a Swiss.

  • slap some candy corvette red on there and some mustard yellow and we got IRONMAN!! lol

  • It was a great achievement for a dreamer like Yves.

Taking his place among another dreamers like Piccard, Bleriot, Linbergh, Earthart, Amundsen, Thor Heyerdahl, Goddard, Edmund Hillary and others.

This flight would have scare the shit out of Leonardo Da Vinci.

  • Man has dreamt of this since the age of Greek mythology! My hat's off to him! What would really cap this is a Wilie E. Cayote costume.

  • Yeah, I was watching an hour of bullshit, and the the anti-climax of shooting the whole journey. A great performence of Yves Rossy, but a shitty job of NGC

  • In continuation to my previous comment, a wing span twice as big as the current one he has will supplement well with the rockets and wind brakes.

  • retarded you retard

  • narrarator is fuckin retarted...

  • Wow...

  • complimenti!!!!

  • yo lo vi en vivo

  • The dude can hold the record for jetting "almost" across the channel, fine thats a world record in itself but to credit him with having crossed the channel entirely then read my comments below

  • He made it all the way across. Then he did a loop over the coastline. I am very glad the only outlet you have for your vitriol is on youtube. It's fairly clear you have a lot of "issues" that you need to work on.

  • I think you need to look up "vitriol". Just because I've provoked a savage and hostile reaction from you that you are clearly trying to suppress does not necessarily mean my words were ill-intentioned. The phrase "man i'm not out to diss this dude" should clue you in. Looks like you're the one with issues, perhaps a therapist is in order.

  • vitriol

    Noun

    1. language expressing bitterness and hatred

That is what you expressed. Your bitterness at the accomplishments of someone better then yourself.

You're a hate monger. You want to sow hatred and shoot down Yves Rossy's great accomplishments. You say you aren't out to "diss" him but the next thing you write is exactly that. And judging by your other posts I really think you need professional help.

  • Heh well props to you for looking up vitriol. However, I challenge you to cite the precise statement I've made that expresses "bitterness or hatred" .. I appreciate his effort and have so from the start, but I am also vigilant of awawrd "world record" prestige only to deserving individuals. If he parachuted and floated the remaining x km's to the shore then it shouldn't be considered "crossing the english channel"..that's not to say his distance tranveled by one-man-jet doesn't set a new record.

  • Man I'm not out to diss this dude but you have to heed the truth when judging whether to credit a bro with a world record cuz if u dont it discredits all and records and you might as well have none

  • "thats not flying... thats falling with style" - Toy Story,

its like a human Buzz Lightyear :D

    x

  • Welcome to the 21st century, baby! It's starting to really feel like 2008, the way 2008 was SUPPOSED to be.

  • i tried to find it on nat geo but it wasnt on =[

  • HE LOOKS LIKE BUZZLIGHTYEAR!!!

  • Well - this is a most amazing situation. Being a scientist myself - I know the troubles that Yves has had to go through.. I am most amazed at the jets that he used.. I am so excited that the jets worked so well... To me that is the greatest thing of this whole experiment, or exercise..

Well - done Yves Rossy ...

Regards - Spencer - Johannesburg - South Africa..

  • yes! man flies!

    congratulations, rossy.

  • can i have one of those??

  • that guy must have balls the size of the grand canyon

  • No..that is actually his next challenge...Fly over the Canyon..Some balls...

  • Yves Rossi is totally awesome!

This courageous man is a true pioneer, prepared to risk his life to push the boundaries of manned flight even further and I'll continue to follow his exploits with great interest.

Does anyone know what his next adventure will be?

  • He jetted all the way he just can't land the wing itself for obvious reasons.

  • Hey man regarding this video I view it with 2 principles in mind 1) credit a dude for achieving a record only if he genuinely does it with no handicaps and 2) I call'm as I see them.

This guy traveled the bulk of the channel distance in jet (fantastic) but then I see him parachuting the remainder of the distance (perhaps evn a mile). Would you credit a swimmer with having completed the traversion across this channel, if he was tugged by a boat the last mile? This dude was tugged by the wind.

  • You clearly have no idea what your talking about. He went 100% of the way before descending down with the parachute. The wing is to small and heavy for him to beable to fly slow enough to land on his feet. He even did a fly by I don't know how much more he could do.

  • Icarus flew high with his wings from the ground and up. This guy had to be flown up in the air before he could fly. He probably needs a rocket on that wing to launch him into air. To land safely, he doesn't need a parachute but a couple of wind brakes or reverse rockets to slow the momentum. He will probably improve the process in a couple of years, but hats off to him for having achieved this before anyone else. Well done!!!

  • Moron! you talk as if you can do this in your sleep

  • congratulations yves this represent the future

  • this is so exciting people!! :D

  • Hesch güett g'macht g'ha, Yves Alter! Ish 'nre aschtreini Üebig g'si!

    MsG

  • another milestone in aviation!

  • Now that looks like fun. What a pity the "professional" camera work was so shoddy.

  • Apparently he's been doing this in Switzerland for some time. I learn of it just now?!

    But: Congratulations!

  • this is amazing. s i m p l y a m a z i n g!

  • Fly Fussionman Fly

  • Wow! Not since the 1969 moon landing has mankind seen such an accomplish!

  • dude the moon landing was fake there so much evidence

    HA THIS IS AWESOME

  • give me CREDIBLE evidence it was faked and some links.

  • dude, just do a search on "WTC7" and you will see that many things are not as they seem

    WTC7?

  • ?! What does WTC7 have to do with the moon landing? What are you ON?

WTC7 was the 7th world trade center building, which was reported to BBC as having collapsed 20mins before it did. The world is a fucked up place.

  • WTC7 in relation to the moon landing shows you that the media is capable of making you believe many things which simply arent true, i am not saying the moon landing was a hoax or JFK was a conspiracy; but basically nothing would suprise me! WTC7 was not even in the 9/11 commision report! i could go on but dude, f*** the media; its all part of the same agenda

  • ive been watching all his videos and i think hes a living ledgend

  • Wow!!!! Nice man... someday i want to buy one of these... heheheh... As someone here said, thanks for making one of humanity dreams true!!! What about flying from Goiania to Brasilia now??? :D... thanks from Brazil!!!

  • let's fly over area 51 yes???

  • WOW. i watched this at nat geo and it is a very surreal moment. its a little bit silly to see video clips before on how people attempted to fly, but this man made it all real and done a very breath-taking moment.

  • niel armstrong, yves rossy. he has made history, shows how far we have come in technology. we should all be proud of this.

  • this is yet another man's defining moment. we could be the best we could be as yves showed it...and we could always live our dreams if we dare. yves, thank you for making us apprecuate the better side of humanity.

  • iv been waiting to watch this since wednesday but bad weather cancled and i missed it yesterday. so thanks to uploader!!!! truly amazing. as big as man on moon

  • I missed this as I was at work, so thanks for posting it - truly amazing!

  • This was truly inspiring, come on epeople get this video up in the rankings - Yves deserves the recognition for this. Brave or what?!

  • NGC did a shiity job filming this amazing event

  • "Second" and cant believe the world isn't more interested. This is REAL, not cgi or x box or Wii!!! What an inspiration.

  • First!
