@lunaticist ...be careful with your words. Mechanistic Philosophy--in Alan Turing's Words--was murdered off with Newton....not Quantum Mechanics. When we talk about mechanistic we are really talking about Descartes' mechanistic world. Newton killed the Mechanistic world by explaining and predicting physical phenomena by the use of "forces"---an abstraction--an end to common sense in theoretical physics. Forces like gravity kill the conceptual basis for Descartes' mechanistic gear-like universe.

@DancingET ... depends what you mean by "mechanistic." Many people do not believe what you just said. Newton actually destroyed the "mechanistic philosophy"---(Alan Turing came up with this concept, and it was furthered by Noam Chomsky). Newton was the first theorist to postulate "forces."

@DancingET ... I understand what you are saying. But I wouldn't call that "mechanistic." I would call that a prediction resisting on the concept of "locality." Quantum physics threw away the concept of locality most of all. It's important to understand how Newton changed the way we do physics--that is, he paved the way for "abstract" forces. Before Newton, this notion didn't exist in physics (Cartesian physics).

"Quantum Brain" great book- BUT -buddy - father of modern computer. Alan Turing (and H. Flower) built "bombe" at Blechley Park in Essex (U.K.) in 1940+ to break "enigma" code - the first computer.

Re the conundrum of homosexuality -there is a biological basis to the (few ) hermaphrodites born -and evidently a 'historical line' of such a group in the Caribbean somewhere, while I agree with you re same sex marriages and parent hood being anathema.

Everything in life is posative and negative. how we live and think and believe makes our life source [posative or negative. What we believe is what will happen when we die. All paths lead to God. Quantum physics is the scientists path. Science spends so much time trying to understand why things happen the way they do. When all you have to do is know that it does. What if when trying to prove a theory, all along the sheer will of wanting it to work that way has made it that way?

I thought science was suppose to keep an open mind? When science finnally climbs to the top of the mountain, he will see God sitting there all along! Not religion, but God. Is it so hard to believe that we came from one we are one and we will return to one? Or is it just hard headedness.

The universe came from 1 atom (or even 1 atomic particle) and inflated to what we have now. These are the particles that are so small that they litrally dont exsist until we conciously look for them. This brings on the idea that we all expanded from one conciousness.

What science is doing now it trying to find out why...

Eventually the inflation will deflate and we will return to one solid atomic particle.

the trouble is, quantum mechanics doesn't say that there are things that cannot be explained in terms of prior causes. It merely shows us how short sighed we were to think we might ever have a complete model. The closer you look, the more detail you find, the closer you look etc When we get to "looking" at bits of light, the observation mingles awkwardly with its subject. Since we can no longer look in the normal sense, we seem to be stuck with theory and correlation of big data we can observe.

sorry but people respect results not intentions and that is why the western paradigm is so successful and until we reach the limitaions of that paradigm we will not and should not abondon it.

It is romantic to envision a time when we discard this type of philosophy but that time has not yet arrived and debating it is really on useful on an emotional level no one offers a solution that demonstrates the practical aplication a new paradigm.

Unless you are able to do that then what is the point.

wasted, this is inaccurate, einstein did not waste his time his thought experienets helped to further understanding this is not a wasteful endeavor just becuase he assumed a position of conflict of the original interperation.

This guy is a real a hole and needs to get off his high horse, it is common sense that mechinistic thinking produces results and it is poised to be even more prevalent, this is not a bad thing.
