I'm still a teenager and obviously don't know much about teaching. But I can say that if you don't enjoy teaching, get out of the job. Kids love a teacher that is relaxed and loves the job. If you take it just because its a job and you show the kids that, they aren't going to respect you. I don't know about teaching but I do know how to be a student and what students respond to better.
Interesting. It's the complete opposite here in Brazil: public schools are awful and private schools are a little better. Anyway, the wages (of both) would be funny if weren't tragic.

i taught for years and its overrated. the job sucks, our benefits are always being tampered with, we lost our jobs when the economy crashed. dont waste your time. its a bullshit job.
the benefits are amazing, the job pay depend on grade level, it gives you a sense of acomplishment and pride if you do the job right and you wouldnt lose your job that easy, common
it obvious to me you have no idea about teaching, the market crashed we lost our jobs too. our benefits were more expensive than corporate. sense of accomplishment you get is mountains of paperwork and ingrate kids. common yourself.
obviously you had no love for your job what so ever. so what the hell were you doing teaching for? maybe you should take something from this movie and not just comment about the shitty things happening in your life. wake up, life isnt supposed to be a nightmare.
you sound like a 18 year naive kid. I was that once too. Its a job thats all it was I was the only teacher that hated summers off because I had to find another job. Having a job has nothing to do with liking it.
im 13 buddy and i seem to know more about the job then you do. when the stockmarket crashes teachers dont lose theyre jobs because theyre government jobs, everybody needs teachers, they never run out. and the reason the pay is shitty is because it pays you all year round. like i said before, it depends on the grade you teach. and it also depends on what country you live in. why the hell would you become a teacher? you must make the kids you teach feel terrible, thats why they act like ingrates.
Well the job is all about how you go about it. It's not all about the benefits... is it frustrating when politics is involved? Yes, but it comes with the territory and you should know what's possible coming in. My feeling is your more frustrated your job was taken from you and you have every right too. It's what you worked hard for, but when you are able to really teach young people and have an effect on them it's not "a bullshit job"... otherwise... why get into teaching?
Col looks like Westley from The Princess Bride I really like this movie, and I can play Mr. Holland's Opus on the flute. I liked the name Col so much that I adopted it as my writing name. Because of this movie, I love the song Beautiful Beautiful Boy. (go Gerswhin too!)This is an amazing movie.
@JesusWept4me, Gary Elwes played Westley in that movie. The older actor who played Cole at the end of the movie, his name is Anthony Natale and he is actually hearing impaired but still handsome.
Due to some copyright problems with MGM, part 8 and 13 have been taken down. The reason for the copyright: The music in the clips!? The songs: I've Got A Woman and The Pretender are in those 2 clips and I guess they belong to MGM. So they deleted the audio in the video clips. I just decided to take down the clips because watching a movie without audio would be very boring. But if I get a bunch of responses saying that you want the clips still up without the audio, I will put them back up.
my aunt is in this at 3:14 3 chairs down from mr. Holland!! how awesome is that!?!

I have been a teacher for 13 years, the pay at public schools is great as are the benefits, they rarely lose jobs and they never get fired.
I work at a private school now, worse pay, better work experience though.

What state do you live in and what do you consider great pay?
