  • This is the best!

  • Too Funny!!!

  • "Where'd you find this audience, Poland?"--Bobby Bittman

  • BRILLIANT!!

  • I can't watch this. Without laughing my head off to the point of bawling.

  • How they keep it up without cracking up! I love this I have been looking for this video for awhile, it is a classic!!!

  • Does anyone know if this melody comes from another song? If so, what's the title, or originally sang it?

  • @phhyatt It is very similar at least to You Hit The Spot, which was sung by Vicki Lane. This is a classic...as is most of SCTV!

  • Six stars, Anyone been married?

  • Who wrote those lyrics? They're fabulous!!!

  • I loved SCTV. The skits were so clever and well done.

  • "you make me puke"...LMAO!!!

  • P.S. I love how at the opening "Captain Kangaroo" is playing with a stuffed animal rabbit while smoking on a cigarette! Hahahahahaha!

  • I think this is the funniest piece on YouTube. Plus, the Pianist is FAB!!! I wonder who wrote this? Genius.

  • There's just no comedy show that equals this SCTV cast! and they all went on to become big stars!

  • Why don't they release more DVDs? There are still so many great moments from SCTV out there that we're not seeing. Thanks for posting this classic.

  • hiliarous

  • Back in the 80's, I used to work beside the Old Firehall Theatre in Toronto. SCTV was in it's prime then. I would go and watch them do Improv on Thursday nights (free entry). The theatre has since been torn down.

  • HOLY SHIT I CANNOT STOP LAUGHING

  • Hey, I like some of their stuff (at least as individuals)--but this is brilliant!

  • Awesome!!

  • Brilliant!

  • Bravo!!! Bravo!!!

  • Had the real Steve and Eydie performed this parody is probably would have been the best material they'd ever sung. I wonder who wrote it.

  • @hfelton I bet Catherine O'hara did. Turns out she's the one who came up with lyrics to a lot of those copyright-free tunes, like Baby Baby I'm so sorry Boo Hoo Hoo. She's quite musical.

  • The best comedy I've ever seen.

  • don't think you're the only sad one

    i'd take my own life

    if i had one..

    hahahaha....genius!

  • I hate your guts!!!!!!! LOLLLLLOLLLLLOLOLLLLLL

  • Even as a spoof--that took a lot of work, & not to mention, talent!! Thanks for posting!

  • i just love how SCTV put everything into their skits despite a low budget. the writing of this song, the rehearsal, timing and the camera fade outs like they used to do.

    they're the best!

  • Great impersonations. They nailed it. Thanks for posting.

  • WOW! that was awesome.

  • Oh, this had me laughing out loud. Thank you so much for posting this gem.

Now if I could only find the one where Andrea Martin is Nana Mouskouri, which she did on one of the final SCTV's that aired in the spring of '82. The premice was that Nana has a new musical director who wants to make her act more edgy, so in each new city she appears, she's wearing a more outrageous pair of glasses-the last being one of those jokeshop glasses with the plastic eyeballs going back 'n forth with springs

  • ROFL!!!!!

  • I laughed, I cried...It was better than Cats.

  • "You make me puke, like a gargoyle you're grotesque, dear..."

    LOL

  • @chrisman737 'You're such a SLEAZE.....HA HA! XO

  • your creation was satanic LOL

I like Dave Thomas as Captain Kangaroo in the background, sucking on a cig.

  • Comment removed

  • i'd take my own life if i had one

  • What a sweet little song... oh wait

  • I don't know which line I like the best:

"....you're the bird poo in my nest, dear..."

    or

"Your breath's so bad, and your B.O.'s quite offensive--soap and water's not expensive..."

The whole thing is BRILLIANT!! SCTV, once again, has made me LMAO!!!! SNL never, ever made me laugh as hard as I did at SCTV--even during the Belushi years.

  • I wonder how they got through this without laughing.

  • I really love this. Thank you so much for posting it. I'm watching all the SCTV dvds now and having a great time doing it. The show just seems to get better and better as the years go by.

  • It was my pleasure to post this. I wish I had more.

  • @windishmear Thank you SOOO much for posting one of my favorite SCTV skits.

  • @windishmear -thanks a million. SCTV had the funniest acts I have ever seen

  • @windishmear -thanks a million for posting. They were so creative and talented.

  • I love Captain Combat!

  • Back in the late '70s, SNL was 90 minutes packed with comedy. Now there's a commercial after every two skits, sometimes after only one. I cannot get into it. Luckily SCTV was on PBS in the mid to late '80s...commercial free. I deem it superior sketch comedy. The recurring theme of the TV station was a great idea. Thank you, Second City.

  • Dave Thomas has a good signing voice! That must run in the family - his brother is Ian Thomas who is a great Canadian singer!

  • SNL was great up until now. Now it's garbage, because the all funniest people are gone like Will Ferrel, Amy Poehler, Tina Fey, Tracy Morgan, Jimmy Fallon ect. I've never watched SCTV until now and it is hilarious. Canada has the funniest people. I can't believe how many famous faces were on this show. Really cool.

  • Yeah I agree SNL is not even close and I love the cast of SNL in movies however , but I never ever found any of them funny on SNL. Strange as they are so funny in films.

  • Great stuff ... seems as though they're going through a "rough patch" in their relationship.

  • You're just a ssleeeeeasy shrewwww ..

  • Plus, they have really good voices - though it doesn't always comes through because of the parody.

  • How did my parents get on this show?!?

  • Absolutely hysterical ! I love Captain Kangaroo smoking cigarettes in the beginning!

  • Love Captain Kangaroo smoking cigarettes in the beginning!

  • LOl-LOL-LOL...OMG CLASSIC!

  • this is canada meets US/Vegas I think it TH BOMB!!!

  • This is one of the first shows I ever videotaped. Didn't like Maudlin or Bittman, but this Steve and Eydie was hilarious. I've got some old stuff I don't see anywhere on the Ytube, I'll have to upload it, SCTV was the BEST. SNL is nothing in comparison.

  • Are you sure this is 1978? Catherine O'Hara would be only years old!! Unbelievable!! Maybe it's more like '80 or '81?

  • I agree. "SCTV" seemed to appeal to a more intelligent/geeky crowd. I was in tears convulsing in laughter..Thanks for the post.

  • Right after this, Sammy Maudlin asks them about the song, and Eydie says, "We just took one of our arguments and set it to music!"

  • The real Steve and Eddie were SO annoying, so this is completely enjoyable. Hard not to appreciate the humor in this!

  • OMG every line a winner...Hilarious, did you notice the same two (Dave Thomas and Catherine Ohara) were right behind Sammy answering phones at the beginning as Captain Kangaroo and Lola Heatherton.

  • OMG every line a winner...Hilarious, did you notice the same two (Dave Thomas and Catherine Ohara) were right behind Sammy answering phones at the beginning as Captain Kangaroo and Lola Heatherton.

  • annihilation with a smile

  • "I'd take my own life...if I had one..." BWAH HA HA HA HA

  • SNL only had a few moments as good as this one, and they mostly included Steve Martin or Eddie Murphy. It's amazing that SNL still stumbles along while Kids in the Hall, SCTV, and Fridays failed.

  • Even the Saturday Night Live crew thought that SCTV was the better talent.

  • who told u that

  • what was hot,. is now much colder.. dont think that youre the only sad one..id take my own life,..if I had one..

  • lmbo wat a song hahahaha, so luv it

  • I would love to see the lyrics. Wonderful.

  • Interestingly, both Ms. O'Hara and Mr. Thomas have relatives who have had varying degrees of success in the Canadian music industry. (Catherine's sister is singer/songwriter Mary Margaret O'Hara; Dave's brother is Ian Thomas.)

  • SNL doesn't rank in SCTV's league

    or good comedy , even

  • @TheDevindevin I agree.. HOWEVER, don't forget that in SCTV's last season, it seemed like they were intentionally trying to kill the show. They had that talentless Tony Rosato, and some woman I can't recall, and every week they used at least half the show for that stupid, unfunny "Days Of The Week".

  • @AxeNewkill

    YOU are so right,

seemed to dumb it down for US vewers,

and the time wasting guest music group each week

was lucky to see all of SCTV from the start

  • Love it love it love it!!!!

  • You're the bird poo in my nest, dear.

  • PS: In the beginning, that's Captain Kangaroo and Lola Heatherton in the background, taking calls.

  • @loganlark, I noticed that isn't that wonderful. It's an illusion really. The fact that the song was film seperately from the introduction.

  • @taosimplicity who cares how it was filmed, its a fantastic piece of work! p.s. thats captain combat in the background not capt kangaroo

  • I just thought it was interesting that someone picked up on that as well. You're right the name was captain combat. I do some film editing for a project that I'm working on so I couldn't help but notice. Do you remember Mrs. Felbows tiny town with Andrea Martin? If so, do you think you could post the video, please? I'd really appreciate it. Thanks.

  • @Kellygump1, I suppose kelly you've never heard of Mrs. Felbows tiny town then? Do you remember the mayor of Melonville? Or maybe you'd remember who played Ethel Merman? How bout Edith Prickley? Or Carl Sagan? Weren't they funny? Do you remember who played those people? Oh, and then there's Guy Caballero remember who played that?

  • I think they were just as talented if not more so than the SNL players. In fact going back to this doesn't seem stale like SNL.I'd say they inspired me to be a working comic more than anyone else except of course python.

  • i agree 100% when you think of the success the crew has after sctv you realize the amazing talent. best comedy show ever

  • THANK YOU THANK THANK YOU for Posting this.

These are TIMELESS classics ... My Brother and I have been laughing at this since we were kids .... I still love Catherine O'Hara's and Dave Thomas' works even today. LoL LoL !!!!

  • Looking for the SCTV skit- Gordon Lightfoot Sings Every Song Ever Written. Anyone seen that on YouTube? It's also great.

  • This kills me, it's so good.

  • This is WAY TOO GOOD! Awesome!

  • These guys were so freaking amazing!!!! So talented!!

  • I LOVE this. Thanks for posting.

  • BBBwaHAHA HA you HOSEBAG!
