And one more important point. Imagine humans with plentiful fusion. What would we do to our planet with that kind of energy available? We'd overpopulate even quicker than we do now and eventually overwhelm the life support system - the 5 inches of soil - the phosphorous fertilizers (which may run out by 2035 anyway). There is only one solution: massive depopulation. This will happen when oil starts running out mid-century. Expect life to get a whole lot worse folks.
There is no option to replace oil, because oil is what I call a dependence fuel. No oil means no cheap metals, cement, gas, coal or even renewable energy systems, and no biofuel can replace it. (It would take most of Europe ploughed up to get anywhere near even current global oil production). Hydrogen is a no go, because it is NOT a Primary fuel. That leaves us with fission, which costs £1.6 bn per year and a whole lot more to decommission. Back to the Stone Age.
This man presented this well I feel. I really appreciate informed people sharing their views. Peak oil was thought changer for me, I realize a new life is ahead, very exciting! I am going to try and help find the answers we need in my own small way. I hope everyone can get on the boat and we can figure this thing out and actually do something about it.
coal production peaked a long time ago. nuclear energy depends on the nonrenewable fuel plutonium. eventually that would peak too. quite soon according to what ive read.
Coal usage peaked, as people moved away from it to use gas. It was a usage peak not a production peak.
Plutonium does not exist its uranium. Plutonium is a breed fuel. If you use breed reactors you can use good ol of the shelf Uranium 238 to power reactors
Learn the truth about "peak oil" - it is really abiotic. Utube and watch the video of
Col L Flectcher Prouty, It explains that oil scarcity is manufactured, like everything else.
