Those monster Kuznetsov turboprops are powerful, but they are so noisy. I wonder what it would have been like to have been a passenger? Especially above the wing? It must have been deafening. Still, this old Russian hardware always fascinates me. I would have loved to have the experience, even with the noise.
Noise -problem- one of the oldest in Russian aircrafts)
And now too. It is so difficult to build good enginees( During the cold war SU took tecknology from Boeing and Rolls-Roys. it was nccesary Because of (and now too) - Dn-Wk law/
@harris3693 I'm sure the military version was even noisier, but early Russian airliners are notorious for their noise, and I once flew in a western built turboprop with the engine right outside the window, and it was deafening with a single prop to each engine and probably only around 2000 hp, unlike the Bear's formidable 15000 hp per engine. I've heard that the Bears are the noisiest planes ever made, and can even be tracked by submarines underwater with their SONAR.

@DandAinTac well, not necessarily as the cabin used insulation. on the bomber, yes, but for the civilian aircraft, no.

You're right! One shouldn't place Citroen 2CV sound behind a Rolls Royce movie!
(Although the 2CV was a wonderful car! :-)
