Need to replace the turbine engine on the Abrams with an old fashioned piston engine. It would 1) improve fuel economy by around 40%; 2) improve maintenance; 3) cheaper engines n cheaper engine parts; & 4) provide a comonality for mechanics of other vehicle (note all others have piston engines) to work on it thereby increasing the # of mechanics that could fix the dang thing. Also don't like the A2, if one thing goes wrong in that turret you have to get the 6 figure per yr civs 2 fix it.

take out the tracks, damage the gun - thats it - tank is useless, dont even need to destroy it completely. RPG 29, RPG2 28 can knock out most of the todays tanks, RPG 7 if loaded with PG-7VR warhead has potential of disabling a tank. Konkurs and Kornet laser guided missiles can knock a tank out no problem.

All these tanks are pretty much neck to neck in technology and firepower. Everyone has their own stong points but it's not by much. The Leopard has the finest crew and training, the challangerII has the best gun, the abrams has the best armor and powerplant. The Challanger and Abrams have really good combat records. But armored warfare can only advance so far before its not armored warfare anymore. I think the MBT will soon max out and go as far as it can. Leclerc is french, need i say more?

Its rifled which gives it more range and its far more accurate out past 2500m and the round isin't affected by gavity as much. But the rifling does prevent it from firing certain types of Sabot ammo but they improvise with high quality AP ammo. But the DWU Sabot round the smooth bores can fire does give them certain armor peircing abilities over the Challanger II. Rifling in tank warfare is an advantage just like rifling in the infanty's rifles is an advantage.

All modern tanks(especially American, German, French, and British) are basically the same tanks. Same type of ceramic armour, same type of main guns, and same type of engines. The

Abrams, Leopared, Leclerc,and Challangers are all designed around each other. But russian tanks are still built around quantity rather than quality. The Abrams and Challangers have something that no one esle has. A good combat record. until the others can prove themselves they can't be called "Good Tanks"
