It's not just the elderly that are being taken advantage of by the "system". It is EVERYONE except for the privileged. Most of the people that control the system are elderly themselves.

Some of you people are not listening. This is a case of financial rape and robbery of the elderly by corrupt judges, lawyers and for profit nursing homes. In Alabama the elder care system is broken. Corrupt judges, lawyers and others are playing God with people's lives for their own profit!

You aren't listening. My mother gave me Durable Power of Attorney! She wanted Me and ONLY ME to handle her care! Corrupt judges, lawyers and nursing home officials did not want that because I saw their abuse and exploitation! Wake up! The elderly in America are being financially raped and robbed by corrupt judges, lawyers and nursing homes!

What alternative are you proposing? Are you advocating home care only? Many, many of those residents of nursing homes have medical ailments that require 24 hour nursing care. That costs about $6,000 per month! Not because homecare is so expensive, but because 24 hours a day is a lot of hours per month to pay for a nurse.

Selling T-shirt does not fix this!

People everywhere need to write their representatives and have the laws change in all 50 states! Every citizen should be allowed to specify, designate and appoint their own guardian/conservator and this should be made retroactive to cover everyone currently in a nursing home!

The Care Staff work against the system in wrongdoings of unfair treatment and manipulation. When it's suppose to be a place of getting better and away from Care once your healed just like you do in Hospital. Care Staff treat Care Homes like a prison. If a Resident of a Care Home request to reduce their medication or change or want to move out of Care into a Flat of own away from Care Care Staff stop them doing so. They do that to my mum anyway.
