  • no one likes a Ford Tempo as if it had an advanced ECU. My bros 1994 Tempo was average on gas, nothing special

  • I was hoping for the car to fall when it was on the "O." :(

  • my first car was a 84' Ford tempo. I still think about it sometimes...

  • @wsmith1213 Was it good?

  • @jakesaintsrow123 for a first car it was great.

  • @wsmith1213 When did you get It? was your 84 Tempo Anywhere New? Or was It Old? I Have a 1987 Chevy nova.first car Just got it I Love It

  • @jakesaintsrow123 i got it in 88' from my grandmother, had very low miles on it, drove great until my little brother flipped it over 5 times.

  • @wsmith1213 Oh Wow. So It was only a few years Old when you got It. Did you have any problems With it?

  • i've tried the loop with my kia rio 2000.... i didnt make it...

  • @kraftdinner18

    ROLF ROFL ROFL.

  • monitors 7 engine functions! Wow!

/me thinks about how much his wrx ecu monitors ;)

  • HOLY SHIT IT HAD A ROLLER COASTER FEATURE!

  • @Ladiespetmansthreat

LMFAO!!!!! That would come in handy I suppose XD

  • 43 mpg, so we should be getting around 65 or 70 mpg?

  • How dare they dis the Sclass mercedes, Kinda funny, I just blew one up due to bad oil cooler. I could lay down comfortably in the trunk in my sclass.

  • @lostwarden was It a 1984 model?

  • That "advanced automotive computer" was the reason I hated mine.. that thing constantly went out.

  • really? was yours an 84? buy it new?

  • Had one and the head gasket went piece of shit!!!

  • What a pile of steaming poo that car was.

  • '

    nah nah,,,

this car cannot go around O

  • the ridgth name is" collapse" instead of tempo..

  • The Tempo was such a piece of junk....the only redeeming model was the 4 wheel drive model but even then....Did I hear them compare this to a Mercedes? This thing was crap off the show room floor.

  • I had 1. Paid 300$ from a scrap yard cause of front end damadge. I fixed it on the cheap when gas got real high. It had no power but it got good MPH and NEVER gave me any issues. When I got a newer truck, I sold it for 500$ and they totaled it not 3 weeks later.

  • @jakesaintsrow123 Mine was a later model with fuel injection.

  • Dame that was a ugly car.

  • My wife had a '90 Tempo and the damn thing had these dust pad things over the rear brakes, one day while driving the back left one started coming off and started to catch on fire. The mechanic yanked it off and informed us the brakes hadn't been done since it rolled out of the factory and those damn pads were recalled!!

    Pretty comfy car to drive.

  • The computer monitors seven engine functions! At the same time!

  • I must try driving my car on that O loop.

  • I bet the Vulcan powered Tempos with a 5 speed are really fun to drive. I bet they can shift, too.

  • What year had the V6?

  • 1992-1994 had the Vulcan V6.

  • You people have no idea how bad this car actually was in its first year. It had a computer controlled carter 1 barrel carb that didn't work worth a crap. I worked at a ford dealer then and we had a repo due to a surge (Before lemon laws) that ford credit wouldn't come get due to the resale value. When that car went full efi port injection in 1988, it was night and day. Went from a turd to a really solid car. You couldn't kill a 1988-1994 if you tried, they were that good. :-)

  • so you guys had allot of trouble with the early 1984-1985 tempo's?? I do know later ones were awesome and there are tons left even today

  • yea but the chevy corsica's outsold these and had more powerful engines

  • This car ALMOST rivaled the Yugo for overall crappiness. Thank god Ford makes the Edge and Fusion and can leave behind its days of building turds like the Tempo

  • Awesome.

  • tempo or topaz

  • They're both based on the same looks and chassis. It's just that they are both under a different name.

  • Its funny Im an american car lover, but to compare to a mercedez is idiotic....LOL

  • @mroddy0862 and it shows when all they can compare is space

  • @mroddy0862 If only you could spell stupid ass

  • no i haven't driven a ford lately, in fact i've never driven at all.

  • I had a 1993 Ford Tempo 2.3L 4 cylinder averaged high 20's to low 30's mpg in the city and 40-45mph on the highway with the AC on. Currently there aren't any cars manufactured that get that kind of mileage unless you find a rare Hybrid that does.

  • @wildbill23c

    Geo Metro

  • @itbeshowinlikeamotha

unlike the metro, the tempo can make it up steep hills and not take a year to merge or pass on the highway. plus it can hold 5 people comfortably and 2 to 3 suitcases.

i would take a tempo over a metro any day

  • My dad used to call it the "tiempo"

  • Oh my god you can do loops in a tempo

  • vaya!! que comercial mas caca....- _ -

  • its funny in these old american car commercials. Watch some of the pontiacs ones on youtube. They always make it out that these cars are so full of technology, technology i never knew these old vehicles even had.

  • My 1989 honda accord died @ 140k Japanese cars aren't all that.

  • 43 miles per gallon was right I got 47mpg

with mine up here in the cold country called Canada

  • sure, and my 91 tempo did 0-60 3.3 seconds and a 1/4mile of 9.8

  • no. cars in the 80s did get ALOT better gas milage than todays cars. (oil companys did things)

  • If that were the case then everyone would be fixing up thier old Ford Tempos instead of buying smart cars, you literally just said some of the dumbest shit I've ever heard.

  • No. Look it up. well the oil company shit, idk. but the mpg's were better. prob. because they didnt come with anything todays cars have.

  • with respect to cars from the 70's/80's, trust me my 91 tempo was alright on gas, but it wasnt great, plus it was shit on the hwyway at 60mph/100kph it revs at 3200rpm

  • Yeah. i got a 93 caravan. ha it sucks on the highway.

  • Seconded. My '89 gets up to 34MPG. That's with the more powerful version of the 2.3L I4 gas engine, and the overdrive-less automatic.

Just think, a HSC 2.3 and MTX combo in a two door would get more then me.

  • It's due to emission regulations

  • They tested the mpg on the moon apparently.

  • hahahahahahaha

  • 43/28?? really? Was that the gas mileage or something else? The video was alittle blurry.

  • it was the mpg

  • yup....although it didnt get 43mpg on the highway....more like 28 to 33 depending on your foot.

  • 36,000 views. 36,000 viewed this probably owned one. that's why they view it. 36,000 people wanting their money back hahahahaha!

  • Or maybe one who wasn't born yet, and is laughing at how primitive life seemed in the 80s, lmao ;)

  • I was born in 1992, thank you. My mom owned a 1987 Topaz in high school.

  • Actually, I saw an add in a paper for someone selling their 1985 (yeah, one year off, so sue me) Tempo for really cheap. Being a HS student, I researched it by viewing things like these, and people's testiments, and now, a year later, I wouldn't trade that car for $20,000. It's a great car.

  • you Still got that 1985 tempo?? They were Good cars!! many people in my family owned em used and new..good cars!

  • @jakesaintsrow123 Yeah I do. Having a few problems with the brakes, but, considering how much I drove that thing around it's not too surprising.

I think the most surprising thing about that car is that on city streets it gets horrible gas mileage, but on the freeway it does amazingly well (though it can't exactly go much over 75 MPH) in terms of mileage.

  • See how simple the world was then. Got I wish I had a flux capacitor. I'd go back in time...

  • I had a 1984 Ford Tempo. It was grey like in the video. Had an engine fire and all the electrical burned. Me and my buddy rewired the whole thing with a single spool of wire. Try that with a new Toyota, you would never be able to do it.

We did all four brakes for $1.96 after core charge. No lie. I loved that car and hated it. It got good MPG and was fast. Got to say, it was one of my favorite cars I have ever owned.

  • buy it new? still got it?

  • FYI, the loop was real but was done by remote control (no driver onboard) for safety. It was quite an accomplishment, I remember seeing a segment on 20/20 about it.

  • Oh my god, it monitors SEVEN functions?!? LOL

  • Yeah...43 MPG, that's about the same as a modern F-150 (lol) but that is a great commercial.

  • 43 MPG? Are they fucking serious?! That is a damn lie and Ford knew it.

  • uuuuuuhh no. Those 4 cylinders get real good gas.

  • How about you get your old ass off YouTube and actually find something constructive to do? You're 53 and that is old as hell. I don't a fuck what you say to me and you need to shut the fuck up talking to me.

  • My first car was an '85 Tempo 2-door.. it was slow, but it got really good fuel economy, and it looks better than some new cars today do. I kinda miss it.

  • push the tempo push the tempo push the tempo pu pu pu push

  • Yeah 43mpg if you put it in neutral and coast.

  • again? did i see that right 43 hmpg 28 cmpg? anyone have one for sale?

  • There was also a model with a Mazda diesel engine. They made the gas model feel like some sort of uber-sport model (which is saying something).

  • WOW! That sounds better than My Pinto ever was!

  • TEMPO SUCKS!!!!!!

  • you suck hater

  • Hey don't call me no hater somebody gave my family that car and the car threw a rod and blew out the motor in it the car wasn't even salvageable, I have a right to say tempo sucks!!, Because that car put my family in big danger.

  • LOL! 1. It was old. 2. Old stuff fails, regardless of the name on it. 3. It was FREE. Add it up, no car lasts forever without some major love and upkeep.

  • 1.Actually I forgot my mom paid $600 dollars for that car but the person before us didn't really care for it properly,2.When we got that car it was not that old, it was 91 and the man sold it to us in 95 or 96 so that wasn't the issue the person before us just didn't take care of it, and my mom paid for that car and not even that long after that the dang car broke down,3. Do u see a lot of tempos now... not really, I just think there a bad car in general, like the ford probe.

  • TEMPO SUCKS!!!!!!!!

  • I was kinda hoping for it to fall off at the top of the O

  • LOL!!!!

  • The world's most advanced automotive computer? WOW!

And please, such BS! 43 MPG highway! no way!

  • Actually, several cars from the 80's got up to 50+ MPG...ever heard of the chevy sprint?

  • "Have you started a Ford lately?"

  • lol very funny !

  • LOL

  • @muskypuckers this morning i started my ford, and jump started a chevy across the street.

  • @CBRRiderr lol, really the chevy had a dead battery? owner left his lights or something, lol. tempos were trash, my mom had a 91. i still to this very day have a 91 cavalier, it was built much better

  • @muskypuckers "have you ever not started a ford recently? or are you too retarded to figure out how the key goes in the ignition?" its catchy, i like it ;)

  • 1980s Ford Tempos. Some of the worst cars ever!!!

  • I have to disagree. I've owned two Tempos before and they were remarkably well built, and if they're maintained *properly*, they will last a lifetime. I managed to eke out 290K miles on a '93 and had an '89 that was totalled at 210K miles. Worst car ever, yeah, right.

  • Comment removed

  • my mother got a brand-new 87 tempo as her first car, it was a piece of crap. it broke down at only 60000 miles.

  • LOL! The "digitronic MPG readout" tells you it is working. The Tempo!.. um err, its computer anyways.....

1984 was a great year. Perhaps not for cars though.

  • your happey when you get it until the transmission goes out

  • A Ford in ever garage, and an automatic transmission jack, also.

  • I had an 85 with a five speed.I was quicker than my 76 Astre(Vega). Put 186,000 miles, good car. 33-35 mpg on the highway at 55 mph. Nicer interior than my Toyota, both materials and fit. Powerful a/c and heater, again beats my Toyota.

  • Thanks for the quality,

  • My All Wheel Drive tempo was a VERY good car. Wished they still made them....

  • @hotamber22 Very good.... SHAKES and RATTLES no thanks

  • I always liked the styling of the original model, but they totally ruined it when they redesigned the car in 1988

  • I Agree! early ones had some class...later ones were such a cookie cutter car

  • "have you driven a ford latley, latley?"

  • i cant begin to explain how much i hate this car and its sister tempast (i think) every time i see one it's like some one took a corn filled shit in my eye ;)

  • The tempo (when the 2.3 actualy ran) was very capable of doing that loop. Its a little thing called inertia. They were also capable of getting 43 mpg highway as well. Todays cars don't do as well because they're heavier.

And yes, that computer was advanced for its time. Keep in mind this was 1984 and EFI was new. It beat the crap out of GM's EFI of the same time.

  • so what class was it in? if it's compact, what's the escort? if it's midsize, what's taurus? very ugly, btw.

  • "THIS IS THE TEMPO OF YOUR LIFE!"

  • lol i thought for a long time it was "Pick up the Tempo on you right"

  • It's "Pick up the Tempo of your life" - which has a double meaning. This could be picking up the beat (tempo) of one's life, or "picking up" a Tempo at your local Ford dealer :)

  • Notice how they have this happy music to lead the attention from the car's crappy looks =)

  • The Ford Tempo: From 0 to 60 before you can say, "Are we there yet grandma?"

  • I had a Tempo, but it was a '93 model. One of the last ones and by then they were pretty reliable basic transportation. Great in the snow too! Took me through college and never missed a beat, but considering it had about 100HP it was not very quick and once you loaded it up with 4 college guys you got a little nervous when it came to merging or passing!

  • I love the rear-end styling of the 93 Tempos!

  • Ford were VERY good at stretching the truth with that one!!! lets just say that its 'advanced computer controlled' 2.3L 4 was actually a cut-down early 60s Falcon 6 motor!!! They are 'large' cars however - I saw one once (way out of its home territory, in New Zealand in fact - possibly the only Tempo in the southern hemisphere!) and it literally dwarfed the other 2 litre cars in the carpark!

And no, I would not expect the Tempo to do the loop-the-loop!

  • Sweet, I just bought a new Tempo! *Drives out of dealership, engine explodes*

  • The engine wouldn't explode, cast iron engines typically don't go boom. It would probably just catch fire from the ignition switch. I have a 92 though, it runs great but everytime I get something fixed there's something else wrong with it, lol.

  • LOL! That sad thing is, that was true with the Pinto. Tempo, great car. Has to be the most durable, solid and reliable car ever made. Not fast, not powerful. But looks good, drives great, sounds decent and has some features that are not found in today's basic sedans.

  • @Explorer4x4 The Tempo ,,, most durable solid reliable car ever made? Well if you look their repair records in Consumer Reports I think you would come to a very different consensus. I knew a few people who had Tempos back in the 80s and non of them were overly pleased by the cars reliability. Plus I remember how you could hear so much ratteling when the car hit bumps on the road, something my solid and reliable Tercel did not do. The most reliable car ever made probably 1990's Toyota Tercel

  • my 84' mercury topaz crossed over to 370 thousand KM this morning :D

  • Wow..Allot of KMS...Still got the car? I Love them

  • Comment removed

  • 43 mpg? Even a Geo Metro wasn't that efficient.

  • I've got a 1989 Tempo, 2.3L HSO I4, and she does 39MPG on a good day. So I could see the 2.0L Mazda Diesel doing that. Or the 2.3L HSC maybe.

  • We had one. Those anti-gravity tires worked wonders...tempo-rarily. Until it fell down off the freeway loopdeloop :)

  • My sister's first car was a one-year-old '85 Tempo. That "world's most advanced automotive computer" had to be replaced 3 times in 3 years. Craptacular.

  • get yourself a Granada or a Cossie Sierra, my son

  • sorry, my '1' key doesnt work all the time, i meant 13 yrs later, its still goin

  • my gram has a 93 tempo, and surprisingly- 3 yrs later its still goin!

  • Do you think that a Tempo could actually do a loop like that? And 43MPG hwy and 28 city? Why can't cars get better millage than that now? I'm lucky if I can get 24 city.

  • an advanced automotive computer wit AMD Athlon 64 X2 CPU...lol jk

  • I doubt that was a real Ford Tempo going through that loop.

  • My mom bought a brand-new GL coupe in 1984. For its day, this was a sharp-looking car but it was plagued with an oil leak that no one seemed able to repair.

  • did you go with her to pick it up in 1984?

  • There was nothing wrong with Tempo until they decided to make Taurus almost exactly like Tempo. People as usual went for the bigger car. So for 84-87, the Tempo was a very good car. In 88 they screwed it up royal with the horrible new dash and automated seatbelts. It then became "just another car".

  • No. The Tempo rocks!

  • I'm sure it did/does. Most Ford cars rock!!

  • Jeez, was Primer Gray the only color the Tempo came in back then?! I'm a Ford guy and I have a '73 Galaxie 500 and I can say beyond a shadow of a doubt that the only way a Tempo rocks is if you drive it on a cobblestone road!! LMAO!

  • lol @ your sarcasm. The Tempo is the only car Ford did right, in my experience.

  • Yes they sure do .

  • Oh god what shit that car turned out to be! And three of my relatives were the first to buy one when they came out.

  • o.O ? ?

  • Comment removed

  • God I loved this commercial... I first saw it a couple years ago. Did you get this off of 80stvthemes.com?

  • Oh btw the commercial actually aired in 1983... it was for the '84 ford tempo - keep in mind how the car model years are a little before the calendar years.
