Thought I knew almost every Mengelberg recording but this is new to me. Just discovered Cassadó today. I was impressed enough to upload the 7 works of his I found (recorded in 1927). He immediately became one of my favorite cellists. Thanks for uploading.
The transcription is terrible in some playces compared to the original.Nowadays when everything should be played from original scores one finds a bit strange to listen to this.I find though better now when listening to it for the second time, and playng is superb
@cellofacir you are doubting the transcribtion and cadenza skills of the master gaspar Cassado...no im just joking but his interpretation oddly sounds to be more of schuberts time period then the actual original
Gerald Moore wrote: "Perhaps Cassados playing intrigued me more than anyones. He was full of ideas, full of originality. He had some contraption on the bridge which amplified the tone so that when I played for him, even in morceaux such as Faures Apres un reve, he would sit on the bend of the piano and my piano lid would be opened on the long stick so that he could hear all my tone." cont
" Some purists, while admiring him as an artist, condemn him for this gadget, saying it takes away from the character of the true cello timbre. But I must say I like it. Cassado is the only cellist when playing a concerto with orchestra whose every note of the solo instrument can be heard."

Amazing! So I finally hear his own concerto transcription. Its quite a coincidence that I posted a Cassado today... :)
I forgot to mention it, but thanks for all your uploads, including Verednikov, Fischer and all the good stuff. Thanks.

I think Cassado's name is talked and played "cello suite"(of course this work is masterpiece・・・).
His wonderful recording(Dvorak's concerto,Schumann,Lalo, ・・・) are forgat・・・,i'm disappointed.
But,I'm glad to your comments.
Thanks to Sinfoniette!!!
