actually, the tail can get broken. Cutting does avoid this. Like taking the dew claws off -safety. Also, to give a special look that's true as well.

inhumane is subjective. I have a boxer, a lab and a ferret. My ferret likes to grab a hold of my labs tail and nibble on it. It would've been inhumane to subject my sweet boxer to that. :D. But seriously, boxers were bred to hunt and the cropped ears and tail was so wild game couldn't latch onto them. I think people, over the years, just fell in love with that look and that's why cropping is the norm in the states. I think as long as you love your dog, he won't care if his tail is stubby.
