  • Clearly this isn't club brostep. And clearly this is fucking sublime. If you don't know how to appreciate this, then it's ultimately your loss. Boxcutter's the king of his own realm.

  • This is fucking killer, I'm...almost surprised at the amount of dislike I'm seeing haha, but mostly I'm fucking glad I didn't get what I thought I was in for looking this dudes up, fucking dooooope, fuck.

  • this song blows

  • This sounds like some tyler the creator shit backround beats

  • Wtf is this crap?

  • check out "Be My Jetpack - Stabbing Pains"

  • Bass-Led & 2-Step.

  • This is shit

  • @XaenMWM i can't agree more.

  • @rachiebuttful And you don't know that dub and dubstep are 2 completely different things.

  • @stickmister321

    NO they're not!

Dubtep is a fusion between Dub and 2-step.

  • @TheMushroomsAreHere Nope, It merged 2-step with grime. Dub is reggae without lyrics, when dubstep is a electronic genre. Have some knowledge here. ^^

  • @stickmister321

    Interesting.

I was always under the impression that it was dub not grime; hence the 'dub'step.

But I could well be wrong.

How do you know this may I ask?

  • @TheMushroomsAreHere I listen quite a many genres, and I have listened dub and grime since 2003 or such, later I found out of dubstep, and didn't really care of it much, hence the half step beat, but I know the originins of it, as it's being played in alot of clubs by deejays here.

  • @TheMushroomsAreHere there are definetly dub influences but it all started with dark garage/2step and breakstep. i think the fact that djs started playing mostly 'dub' (instrumental and slightly edited) versions of 2step-garage that has been mostly vocal-oriented in it's last stages plays a role too.

  • tweakin' the genre

  • 3:59 for a fart.

  • @moosemaster666 that noise annoys me every time i listen to this track

  • THIS IS MY FAVORITE DUB

  • Comment removed

  • ok datsik is called gorestep for sum and boxcutter is called genius for all

  • Yeah, I can enjoy this while I am on a downer mood set. It's not bad to sit back and smoke a phatty too.

  • @connorveale okay... you people have never met me before so dont assume you know more than me. i actually like all kinds of dubstep and i easily grasp all the different types of dubstep... gorestep, electronic dubstep, house dubstep, dub-reggae, etc. i will admit that it was ignorant for me to say that this isnt "real" dubstep, yes its real dubstep, but in my opinion its not all that great. dubstep is all about having many sound effects and different elements. this is just boring and repetitive

  • Comment removed

  • honestly i love dubstep but this is just boring. its like elevator music compared to real dubstep. try datsik...

  • @cooleo0 Sick troll kid

  • @Hugene27 @Hugene27 you obviously dont know what trolling is, "kid." you should know the difference between trolling and voicing an opinion. if you cant figure that out than dont post your ignorant comments on youtube.

  • @cooleo0 I'm the ignorant one? calling something as genius as this 'boring'?

What is real dubstep then, pal? Datsik and Excision? I think not.

  • @cooleo0 all the Dubstep you know now has his roots with this, this is how it all started

  • @nevermind147 yeah, i know but that doesnt automatically make it good. all im saying is that its boring. its the same beat and the same sound effects for the ENTIRE song, with no variations at all. its good if you just want some background music if your just chillin or whatever but for listening purposed its really boring.

  • @cooleo0 this is meant to be ambient, so its repetitiveness is for setting the mood, if he went throwing in loads of random sounds it would ruin the mood. if this is "boring" then you're calling a lot of this old dubstep boring. it originated with this ambient dubstep, so go and listen to datsik or some shit if you want your mish mash of sound effects

  • @cooleo0 "its good if you just want some background music if your just chillin or whatever but for listening purposed its really boring." with the utmost respect, you're an idiot.

  • @edwardosp nah, man, you got it all wrong. your problem is that you gotta smok3 some(in other words, stop being a hard ass) and the beat will get inside you, its takes a special kind of person to really understand and appreciate this kind of art. but its a cool song to chill to as well. :) OpEn YoUr MiNd.

  • @infction what you on?

  • How is this appealling to you people?

  • @Infction smoke some bud then listen to it.

    you'll understand.

  • @Infction what do you mean.... you people???

  • @SteezySchleezy what do you mean you people

  • straight classic!

  • was that a fart at 3:54? wtf

  • @nitzdaking321 hahahahaha that's funny as fuck i listened to it just now

  • whats the difference between dub and dubstep?

  • @squiresuzuki dub is like jamaican soundsystem music, dubstep is different

  • @squiresuzuki Dub's basically electronic reggae; slowed down a bit and with a lot of delay and reverbs.

Dubstep started off as a mix of that Dub style + 2-step and Grime bass, but nowadays your popular dubstep track is usually just simple 2-step beats and "TEH MASSIVE BAZZ1!!".

  • the graphic has an air of daniel johston rip off, not impressed

  • dont smoke the j dub

  • there is definitely a dub element..

  • i'm so in love with my life while listening to that awesome shit

  • Wikipedia has Aphex Twin and Boxcutter listed un Intelligent Dance Music (IDM), but Boxcutter is also listed on the "List of Dubstep Musicians." Sometimes they get it right, sometimes they get it wrong. I guess only Boxcutter knows what he is. Rusko is definitely dubstep.

  • @shuralmehki IDM is pretty much an unclassifiable genre, which is what electronic musicians typically are put under when they use elements of conventional electronic dance music in unconventional/more moody ways.

  • @shuralmehki Though it originated from Techno and such, I really see it as broader than that nowadays.

  • @shuralmehki Agreed.

  • Personally I'd not call AT dubstep... but anyhow the overall song recalls me more of Mala and Digital Mystikz than Aphex Twin. If you focus only on the glitch sound here and there, yeah maybe you can hear some AT influences but the genre scale is definitely tipping in favor of dubstep over IDM. And if your definition of dubstep revolves around wobbles than you're missing the point.

  • I love this shit. Nobody can copy the style.

  • Shits all over Rusko!

  • Reminds me of Caribou.

  • @TheUnremarkableMe I can see why.

  • This is dubstep how it should be. Indisposable.

  • @WillT23 That, and timeless in it's own way.

  • @WillT23 someone had to say it :}

  • @WillT23 I wouldn't even call it Dubstep. I think hes just been labelled as it because he's hard to class. Would you call Aphex Twin dubstep?

  • @Chewabacca i know what you mean man, all electronic stuff that comes out seems to be labelled dubstep almost by default because it's the big thing atm. i wouldn't label aphex dubstep but i would boxcutter. dubstep originally came from the bass focused rhythms of dub and 2-step garage. something like windfall is serious fucking dubbage, and tunes like foxy are pure garage. he's never constrained by these two things, he goes in a gazillion different directions ideas and influences wise.

  • @Chewabacca Nah, if you look back at aphex twins stuff, he started out doing acid house ('Didgeridoo') then moved into more experimental &ambient sounds (the whole of 'selected ambient works' and things like 'rubber jonny' even though thats not fully his work!), then did stuff that was D'n'B/Breakbeat influenced ('Girl/boy song' and 'Vordhosbn'). so id say that aphex twin is very much intelligent dance music!

  • @TheGLuigi

i agree wholeheartedly and am an AFX fan who been there from the get go ~! jah peace to the i rastafaria

  • @Chewabacca after months have passed and i've come back i know what you mean. not that it isn't dubstep. but in the same way that aphex isn't idm, aphex always has that playful aphex vibe no matter what style he fucks with, and boxcutter more like boxcutter than dubstep if that makes sense. after three years, this album seriously stands out as a stone cold electronic classic. undeservedly largely slept on.

  • J DUBOINT

  • is this still dubstep?

  • @thundrn i dont know check the rule book

  • ?????????????

  • @thundrn dunno, how do you feel? im feelin mad dubby listning to this

  • this is where its at

  • harder the dub harder the whomp. this is not whomp. good luck having a good time at a show with this.

  • @ebayer22 did you make up that word? I get what your saying this deffently is not club music.. beautiful music to say the least

  • i wish more people knew about this side of dubstep more...

  • @supadupasumo me too, this has way more depth then the wobbles at party's. Agree with ebayer22 tho, this ain't party-music,but does it have to be? Guess not

  • this is more of an experience and a story, than noises or music. to me, anyway

  • is this considered music or just a bunch of random noises?

  • i have never heard this but i love it

wow...it is so complex and if there is more i want it

    please reply

  • It's interesting, because these guys are almost more soundscape or shoegaze than dubstep. It's got that techno sound, but it's a little less bassy and a little more trancy.

That being said, I agree. Dubstep will remain underground and amazing for at least another couple of years, then (as always seems to happen) there will be those posers who jump on the bandwagon and claim the music as their own.

But by then we'll all have something new to listen to. :D

  • @meemeesiko57 I'm afraid I have to agree with the second part you wrote... always that hype frenzie popping up afther a while when something new and fresh is born.

I have never heard about soundscape and shoegaze before, but I guess they are related to dubstep? do you got any good suggestions to check out? greets from holland

  • @meemeesiko57 I am afraid I have to agree with the second part you wrote, there is always a hype frenzie popping up over a new style, with people who rip credit that others deserve.

I never heard about soundscape or shoegaze before, do you got any good suggestions for those styles to check out? always looking for new stuff. greets from holland

  • @yoeriyoeriyoeri My Bloody Valentine, The Depreciation Guild, Stars of the Lid, Lush, Klaus Schulze, Flying Saucer Attack, M83

    There's you some starters bro.

  • the bandwagon is teeming with posers me tinks

  • @meemeesiko57... Just 1 guy

  • @meemeesiko57

sorry to burst your bubble but the bandwagon is full of posers already :p

but just ignore them, do it for the music, not for the scene!

  • @JonaIsRuig

Well, I do think that most Dubstep crowds are genuine listeners to it. However, I have noticed a few bandwagoners around. Not nearly as much as in the house/Deadmau5 scene, though. Thank god. ^_^

  • oh man.. so not mainstream.. I like dubstep.

  • this is real dubstep, none of that fucking annoying 'wub wub' shit that datsick insists on spinning

  • this is what the old days of dubstep sounded like, so chilled

  • Amazing song, indeed!

  • baaaaaasssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssslike it's actually coming from inside my eardrum

  • @leahbility I like the bass too.

  • 3:04 fart?

  • one of the best choons ive heard in ages, in my opinion not as good as rusty break, but what a fuckin track man, love it!!!

    Boxcutter is tha shit!!!

  • i kinda miss a real killer beat but it's brilliant tho

  • BOXCUTTER IS SICK ! check out the glyphic album big stuff! also search REPLICA DUB

  • This reminds me of Plaid without the layering & complexity.

    Nice club tune though.

  • From implying this song has no layering and complexity, im assuming you're either deaf or in need of new speakers?

  • Assumptions are a dangerous game.

For example, I could assume from your comment that for you this IS complex music. In which case you really haven't heard much and shouldn't be running your mouth.

I could make further assumptions based on your username but you kept your comment civil so I'll return the courtesy.

  • Right so because there is music that exists that's more complex than this, it makes it not so? Think about what you want to say before you type it out buddy. Aside from that you're also criticising me for assuming things even though both of the things i was 'assuming' were clearly made up, sarcastic and laid down just to make a point. Also, passive aggression is not courteous nor civil, so once again: think then type. In that order.

  • Once again you're merely proving your ignorance.

It was apparent what you were attempting to do, I was being facetious. If you took my comments about me being deaf or my speaker being broken literally you are obviously simple. Not my fault.

Also should you really deride passive aggression when you have included an aggressive "buddy" in your actual comment?

My advise to you in future would be think. Then don't type because the thinking stage didn't go so well. Then sell your computer.

  • Are you trying to say we're not buddies?

    :(

  • I was just chattin about music. You're the one with the problem.

  • You was just chattin about how the song isnt layered well. From 3 minutes and onwards, there's a stupid amount of different sounds going on, all mixed down and structured as closest to perfection as ive ever heard in this specific niche of music, show me something to prove me wrong and ill shut up and walk away from this pointless argument that im quite enjoying.

  • I actually said: "This reminds me of Plaid without the layering & complexity."

Music can still be good without being complicated. You need to get over defending what is essentially a simplistic, minimally produced track.

Like I said if you think this embodies anything more than average electronica production and arrangement you don't know jack.

  • Hahaha! Electronica?! HAHahahaha you silly kid. Im talking about music like Boxcutter, which is nothing like Plaid or Clark or whatever cutting edge 'electronica' artist you're a super fan club elitist card holder for. Like i said before, show me one song of THIS style that is better mixed, produced and has more layers than this and you've won the argument.

  • I won the argument the moment you first posted a response. Seriously, I've almost felt sympathy.

Saying boxcutter isn't electronica just goes to show you can't even identify what you're listening to. Responding to some troll who doesn't even have a medicore background in the subject is a joyless undertaking so this will be my last reply.

Go comment on some tennis videos. Pretend you know something about poise and backhand.

  • Once again you're putting words in my mouth. Within the genre of electronica are sub genres like dubstep, IDM, garage etc. ie its a term used to umbrella all electronic music. Now fucking OBVIOUSLY there are more complex and clever artists within that huge range, but specifically within the niche that boxcutter has found (w/e you want to call it), there is nothing that betters him. Thats what im arguing, so stop picking at irrelevant points like what genre this is and prove me wrong.
