I remember the day this happened. I was in High School, before I even knew what happened, I was called into the office. They asked me if I knew anything about the "Trenchcoat Mafia" I thought it was a joke. I was sent home from school early, they said it was "for your protection" when I turned the TV on and saw the breaking news I was a lil pissed off, I thought they were just making a worse name for subcultures. Now that it's been so long, I realize how much this event changed history.

I admit, though I'm no longer truly a member of the goth subculture, I still listen to this type of music and can empathize with those in the subculture. It's strange that these kids out there who are popular call themselves "normal" - when they're amongst the most hateful, antisocial, and (let's face it) violent members of our society, who will gladly kill you if you diss them and if they thought they could get away with it. To you "beautiful people" out there - KISS MY ASS!!! Damn losers.

eghhh I remember that 20/20 on the news when I was a weee tyke thankfully some of our eldergoths cleared up some of those misconceptions but looking back on it puts it in perspective exactly how ANY news source can be.

i started dressing in black in like 4th grade because i thot it was a good way to hide myself. i was extremely shy and i thot that if i could blend in with the shadows people wouldnt notice me. and accouring to this song i was really wrong

my dad showed me this song when i was like 8. sure my dad wasnt goth but he used this song to help me understand that judging someone is wrong. also 2 help me understand that its a good thing to be yourself and to dress the way you want to. don't listen to the stereotypes or what other people tell you to. be yourself. and myself is covered in black. to all the preppy white kids, deal with it. you can't influence me. fucking america i hate it.

Goth started as a subculture which tried to erase gender stereotypes, that´s why are goth men wearing skirts and makeing theyselfs up. It has nothing in common with graveyards or helloween or death.

Well some of them may be, but not all goths are peaceful and CERTAINLY not all goths are violent!

All goths, as well as all subcultures, are just people who happen to share a certain taste in music and/or fashion. They are all individuals.

I don't see why most people don't see that..they think they're all just the same because they happen to dress alike..its terrible..

... It's not really because you're goth, it's because you're small and you let people walk on you. I had the same problem, only difference is that I'm a chick and I went to a tiny, tiny high school where everyone knew just about everyone else.
