  • kwame brown must see this!!

  • Any time you have a opportunity to lay up, DUNK THAT SHIT!!!

  • @sTaLkEr01O

    No.

  • @sTaLkEr01O only if ure black and not asian

  • the black Christopher Walken

  • lets look at the white guy... arm bent, under the basket, ball not high enough on the board... shit technique.

now lets look at this big nig right here, perfect technique lol.

  • @hizzleeee lmao, theyre all black but that was funny

  • @hizzleeee hahahaha, this made me laugh so hard!

  • @hizzleeee hahaha i read and pictured it as if it were a boondocks episode

  • I may not have this story exactly right but it's great, if true, Wilkens was coaching an NBA team in the 90's I believe, want to say the Atlanta Hawks, he was probably well in his 50's or even his 60's. Was demonstrating a drill to some young player who maybe hadn't read his coache's resume. The player said something like, not bad coach, you ever play? Wilkens who only played 15 years in the league and was a 9 time all-star, apparently said something like:"I wasn't always this age, son."

  • David Wesley n 36 other people cant make a layup

  • You know your bad when you miss a practice lay up

  • i wanna see videos of this guy play damn it

  • @daking594 u should play as if the president showed up to see you play. U should take a large breath before you play, cause tht always calms me down. And if you have an

open shot, shoot it and dont think about missing or making it. Just shoot like u normally would like how u shot around by urself at home. Hope this helps :)

  • u didnt even spell his name right

  • lenny wilkens you suck. q-0_0-p

  • @MyTzA2105

DONT BE DISSIN ON MY UNCLE!

HE CAN KICK UR ASS IN BASKETBALL.. haha :P

  • his name is Lenny WILKENS. you're welcome

  • thx man, I know why I often miss easy lay ups, practice makes perfect!

  • he reminds me of Clarence Willams |||

  • lenny wilkins was one of the best back then :)

  • @KirkHamm3TT

haha he's my uncle.. u should see his house. its huge!

    he has an elevator in it :}

  • very good video thank you.

  • yeye this does makes sense

  • wow, this guy is completely right. Lay ups are easiers, but if do not play those simple fundamentals, you miss some easy shoots... tha's happen to me a lot xDDD

  • 90% of them fast break chase down layups can be stopped by reverse layup its easy

  • one question, if you are going for a fast break, how do u prevent someone from blocking u from behind or off the backboard? cuz even if u try making it go high off the backboard they can still smack it before it gets that high and if u try and stop to pump fake u can easily get called for travel

  • i'd persornally still go for the pump fake.

one is that you get more stability.

the other is that the defenders usually go for the fake given that you're changing the pace of the attack so quickly.

i doubt you'd get called for travelling that easily if you do it right. either that or the referee sucks.

  • thats why you go for a monster slam bro. work on your hops

  • If you get blocked, hopefully your team mates have followed you on the fast break and can get the offensive board for the put back.

The ball can go out of court and your team gets it back anyway, or you can get the foul.

Put the prospect of getting blocked out of your mind and go up strong every time.

  • pump fake is good if you can stop fast with out studder stepping and traveling. But also you can easily just do a reverse layup on the other side of the glass and use the rim to block his arm from blocking you. I love using reverse layups when Im in fastbreak and someone is following me closely. Just create a good angle when coming to the basket so the reverse layup is easy.

  • Use the rim to help block the defender's path... If you're going up for a right handed lay-up take an angle so you do a reverse lay-up with your left hand using the rim to help block the defender.

  • You have to control your body, and just get it so that the other guy will foul you with the block attempt. I don't know how to describe it exactly, this is the best thing I thought of.

  • draw a foul or take a quick look to see where the defender is. there's different variety of doing it. usually i just make hesitation, well that's what i call it, i let the defender by my side when i jump for the lay up and hang in the air. hope it makes sense...

  • @1517494 yeah totally agree man

  • in a fast break, unless the guy has way more air than you just take it in hard. he should be in a position where he can only foul you or goal tend. don't get skurd!

  • i was joking u guys take it to seriously this vid is good

  • with that statement, you are either missing all your easy lay ups and / or u're playing with people who cant play ball.

  • i tot he gonna make a lay-up..

  • agrred tony parker best layup tbh;

  • thank you

  • Lenny Wilkins is good, but Tony Parker should have done this. Tony would show it. Lenny Wilkins is only discussing.

  • Lenny Wilkins is in the hall of fame as a Coach, and a PLAYER,he was tony parker before tony parker.

  • I swear some of these kids don't know shit about basketball. Lenny Wilkins probably taught Tony Parker how to make layups from this video.

  • my grandfather is a lifetime sonics fan and he said the same thing, parker and wilkins were the same!!

  • Yeah we should punch you in the elbow

  • My coach always told me to put up a lay up like I was putting up a marshmellow. It sounds weird but it helped a lot.

  • What did he mean by a marshmellow?

  • ya making lay ups take alot of finesse. u cant hit the backboard to hard. my grandpa told me to aim for the top cornors of the backboard (in the box) depending on wat side u on. i cant lay up in traffic though if i could i would be so much deadly kinda like tony parker lmao. he is a deadly pg that can make any lay up. imo.

  • wow good obervation are you a reporter of some sort?

  • i actually lol in rl when i red that lmao. =P

  • wow,, your like the next michael jordan. I mean if you can make a layup you have to be a staring crow

  • playing against a 5 yr old?

  • your stupid

  • loll...

  • My Grandpa Grew up with Lenny In New York.

  • Missing a lay-up is an art. It takes skill and finesse.

  • Just ask David Wesley, there's a bunch of vids on YouTube of him missing layups

  • shut the fuck up bitches should be talkin bout this guy hall of famer and one of the greatest. faggots

  • wow dis is gonna help me a lot

  • damn, i play in a 16-18 years old league and fuck, so many missed lay ups. games are fast pace and guys arent very good. this video helps a lot.

  • well he is lenny wilkens one of the 50 greats

  • He's a hall of famer. Fucking dumbass

  • layups r important if u cant thro it down like me! then again, if a big guys at u, u fake in the air, go around him, and lay it in

  • this is stupid....you can spin the ball and you realy dont have to extand your arm....those ley-ups WILL get blocked if a tall defender is near.....the part that he said is where you want the ball on the glass is great for bank-shots but it is not a must for ley ups

  • youre a stupid dumbass you are supposed to extend your arm so people can't block you dumbass it's harder to block extended arm layups

  • he has got a point, the shot blocker can time your arm extension.

if you are small, releasing it unexpectedly, not doing the full motion, will catch shot blockers off-guard.

that is the thing about playing unstoppable basketball, you start with the fundamentals, als lenny explained, and then you take it from there, doing stuff that does not follow the rules.

  • @QBziZ Before you should learn to shoot lay-ups without the full extension to avoid getting blocked, you need to learn the correct way. What you explain is correct. Learn the fundamentals then move on to the fancy stuff.

  • besides coaching the knicks whats lenny known for?

  • he doesnt coach the knicks, he used to but now its mike dantoni

  • i meant that he used to

  • wow, learn your NBA history. he's a Hall of Famer as a coach and player and the winningest NBA coach of all time

  • srry i dont beat off to nba history, i watch and play the game

  • lol, neither do i but, he's an NBA great.

  • as a nyc native, ive stopped caring about anybody whos come through this town in the new millennium because theyve all been pathetic....thats all

  • aite, but NYC is the mecca of basketball, its always good players coming out of there.

  • a ton of fantastic players have come out of here.....thankfully most of them havent played for the knicks

  • H20 was an awesome player... and he was on the knicks...

  • @Jkub101 Hey maybe you're the guy in that story, about him demonstrating the drill to one of his Atlanta Hawks players in the 90's and the kid saying hey coach, not bad ya ever play? Only 15 years and a 9-time allstar. Just cause it happened back then doesn't mean it didn't happen.

  • he was also knowen for getting mvp 2 years in a row

  • Is Lenny Wilkins related to Christopher Walken?

  • Hahahaha, I was sort of thinking that too...

  • Why can't you just lay the ball on the rim instead of tryna bank it?

Unless you're shot, I think guys over 6'2 can do that.

  • More room for error if you put it off glass. You're going full speed and you put it on the rim it's more likely to hit back rim and bounce out. Glass gives you more options and angles to finish from too. Especially in traffic.

  • good point.

  • dont be mean :p its good for people that are new to basketball

  • thanks alot... i am such a basketball noob...

  • You learned 'layup' .. ding!

  • achievement accomplished "how to make a layup" - 25 gamer points

  • hahah hes trying so hard not to laugh hes prolly thinking

ITS A FRICKIN LAYUP! lmao but w/e good video for those who dont get the entire concept

  • i know, it's so hard! do i want to throw the ball through the basket or through at the square? and i wouldn't want to upset the gray little plastic lining, would I? my parents always told me to share. maybe i should just throw the ball at my brother. lenny wilkins confused me!!!

  • THANKS LENNY!! MY GAME IS NOW COMPLETE

  • no ones games is complete.. unless ur micheal jordan..

  • or kobe

  • Lenny makes it easier for me than other fundamentals on layups.

  • This is sorta basic...i thought it was a few tips on advanced lay-ups. But yeah this helps, some people didn't know that positioning and balance was a part of this.

  • wow cool, now i learn a layup!

  • so did that one go in after it hit the backboard?

  • so fast

  • He used to be an All-Star when he played in the NBA in the '70s. I guess he can still make a layup?

  • how come this looks different then the rest

  • LOL. You should be one of those who just started playing basketball or at least, know about NBA. Considering if LENNY WILKENS can make a lay-up? Come on! Looks like gadogry had explained it all.

  • dude, that shit i post was like 3 month ago. plz look at the time before u post ur shit comments. I don't waste my time reading whats already been said.

  • Well, glad that you had learnt from your mistake. =)

  • impaaaaawtant

  • actually, he is one of the best players in NBA history...

  • shut the fuck up you racist

  • Agreed, Lenny is also one of the best coaches. You'd be surprised how many people can not make their layups.

  • This a good way to learn to play basketball

  • hmmmmmmmmmm but the third shot was overhanded... and the guy was obviously much taller.

  • this is some good stuff

  • lenny wilkens is black

  • a month ago i missed all my open lay- ups well 90% of them now i hardly miss any of em

  • how can you do that?gosh

  • because im more of an outside shooter/ midrange jump shooter than driving.

  • no way could you knock down jumpshots but not make layups.

  • LOL

  • This is some good stuff

  • I used to make more floaters than layups in-game. But the extending your arm thing helped me especially when using my left.

    Now I make em.

  • there is no good reason to miss a wide open layup if u do it the correct way.. or as nash said... is just practice!!

  • he really doesn't give important or insightful advice. If the ball is low on the board, of course it misses. It's like saying if the ball hits the front of the rim it will miss.

  • why did you say that

  • be cuz someone said a racist comment to the guy in the video

  • is that a indian

  • was bist du denn?

  • missgeburt

  • free hand hand lay up is better

  • Maybe it's because I am, wut my bestest friend calls me, a chink, but this video has superly improved my game. I never miss broad-open layups anymore. Thanks Mr. Wilkins!

  • I know what u mean.

I used to miss like, 60% of the lay ups I tried to make, but after watching this video, I only miss about 5%

    ^__^

  • Thank you macaa. I know it's b/c I'm a chink. I just need to hear this video more by Mr. Wilken.s

  • ur fucking retarded. that guy aint no chinese

  • asian people are amazingly fast, watch phillos play. they run fast

  • nice

  • Wow!! Thanks Lenny! I have now mastered my game!

  • Say WTF is up with all this racist shit?? Please if you have something negative to say, keep it to yo self and appricate the video.

  • i agree racist stuff gotta go

in my opinion ppl who are racist are afraid of other races.I dont think they have enuff to say to someone elses face without getting beatup

  • i say racist things to peoples face.... nothing happens... maybe cause they know im just playing....

  • I mean If ur not playing

  • how does being white affect your ability to play basketball?

  • ok now i know how to do a layup thank god

  • u just never been to africa.. africans are naturally strong and tall.

east africa " sudan" they are tall.. look at dinka tribe. west africa are big and ripped .

combine those and u get shaq lol

  • I thought Hakem or Manute Bol was from the dinka tribe. Those are some tall ball players.

  • Well yeah but you can't always do the dunk. Plus alot of people can't
