  • Great song but sounds so much better acoustic :)

  • Such a good song! Might do a dance to it :)

  • she is such a great artist

  • Brilliant song

  • @kittycatcarley I think she already did figure you out and it doesn't seem like you love Jesus either.

  • There's really nothing like the feeling of being transported back with a favorite song, and this is one of those songs for me. Reminds me of '97 and '98. Really, really miss that time period, both for the music and fun memories.

  • why doesn't anyone ever get the lyrics right? how can you go to all that effort to make a video and manage to screw up the lyrics?

  • She just generally sings very beautiful songs like Silence.

  • Who is canadian ?? :)

  • AMAZING,<3

  • love this. need i say more?

  • I don't think that "poam" is a word, it is poem

  • I also think that, during the mid-to-late 90's, it was mandatory that every red-blooded pop/rock fan should own THESE THREE DISCS:

    1/Sarah McLachlan: "Surfacing"

    2/Alanis Morissette: "Jagged Little Pill"

    3/Jewel: "Pieces Of You"

  • There be mistakes. Big surprise.

  • Beautiful razor shrine

  • thumbs up for this dumbass uploader spelling poem* wrong!!

  • Ah 1997! I miss the mid/late 90's.

  • also made me think of scooby doo XD

  • i heard all these songs were written when she was addicted to heroineabout her life in that time .... any truth to that?

  • is she really nice?

  • @crageinthecage probably, you never know.

  • great song.

  • I remember when I was younger (and before the lyrics were conveniently in front of me) I used to think Sarah said "a beautiful DUCK-ING man" =D

  • first of all i have loved this song since it first came out..butto b honest still dont fully understand.. but LOVE IT none the less

  • This song speaks to the beautifulness of beautifullness

  • i got to see her live.. waay better! in concert!

  • Am I the only one who didn't expect Sarah to say *fuck* in this song?

  • @nintendoboy17 Nope I was surprised as well, it suits the song however.

  • @nintendoboy17 Funny I never even noticed that poster! Thank you for pointing that out! I've met Sarah here in Vancouver and she's a really nice woman! Not snobbish whatsoever!

  • this song gives me goosebumps

  • I heard this when I was about 10 or 11, and at 14, I STILL love it, even though I'm scene/emo. :)

Yeah you're working, building a mystery

Holding on, and holding it in

    You're building a mystery...

  • One of the most haunting voices I have ever listened to. That voice can pierce the soul with beauty and eloquence

  • @LizzyE246528 I totally agree. The first time I heard this beautiful track with this angelic voice, I was awestruck. The lyrics, delivered in that airy, soaring voice, coat the soul with ice at 50 paces. And the lyric is so brutally direct. It sounds like a kiss-off; the proverbial iron fist in a velvet glove.

  • this was the song i sang to my dad as he was laying in the hospital...about 2 minutes after...the father took him. R.I.P daddy...your little girl misses you.

  • pretty tune, condescending lyrix.

  • @slukky From a certain point of view, it's bittersweet flattery. The subject works so hard to be more than he is, and the singer acknowledges this, but asserts that he would be better off without the mask.

  • Hmmm, I love the '' You're a beautiful, A beautiful Fucked up man'' part.

  • Man I remember this

  • I LOVE THE VOICE!

  • 5 people are a mystery!

  • Omg, I love this song... It has so much meaning! This is my sister's song for her now-ex-husband! Go Sarah McLachlan!!!!!

  • great song to chill out to..

  • This is kinda egotistical of me to say but I feel like this song defines me.

  • Builders of the Adytum ;-) LVX

  • she really is in a class unto herself

  • Hey youtube! Alberta Ballet is doing a full evening performance only to Sarah McLachlan music!!!! If you live near Calgary, come see it in May!!!

  • I grew up with this song. My Grandmum and I used to listen to this in her car over and over and over again. It is a beautiful song. It explains (for me) the mystery of love. This is an amazing song with very deep lyrics. Sarahh McLachlan... You are amazing!

  • Er, "poam?"

  • I can't get my speakers loud enough!!!!<3

  • I listen to really heavy metal and yet old songs that remind me of my childhood are still my favorite.

  • @BAMFlicous I hear ya, I listen to rap, but I have a soft spot for anything that was reallly popular in 1990's lol.

  • when i was a baby my dad told me this would be my favorite song.... i love Sarah McLachlan and her songs .. :)

  • Thanks. Pretty decent job of syching with song. Spelling needs some work: sandals not sandles and poem not poam.......

  • @cecileluv hypocrite, synching?

  • f**k Taylor Swift- this is REAL music right here.

  • I think she wrote this song about her first black lover

  • this was mine and my ex's "song" I never understood why, yet I listen to it all the time almost once a day,and think of him and cry :( I just wish things were the way that they were

  • this is the best songgg by her

  • omg i love this song i cant stop replaying it lol

  • I give alot of credit to many Canadian musicians for writing and performing really beautiful melodic songs like this one.Beautiful song Sarah! Like a Bird by Nelly Furtado is another really beautiful song. Well done guys! GO CANADA!

  • They don't make them like this anymore.

  • Poem*

  • Everytime I listen o this song I feel like taking a warm bath..

  • @carlitochristyfan

Every time I hear this song, I feel like dancing alone on a moonless night.

  • This is the most amazing song about the war against Jesus. The evil one who is building a mystery religion, that died before Jesus came. He is a truly beautiful fucked up man that evil one, to think that he can come against the Lord of the universe. All he has is charm, no love, nothing real. I don't know Sarah's intent with this song but I sure know what it says to me. Vampires?, they are nothing compared with that beautiful fucked up man - that man of sin! The music is hauntingly appropriate.

  • @TinaLT1 The great thing about Art when it holds up on its' own is how it will touch one this way and another that way. Sarah created a beautiful piece here...

  • @oneidafish

I agree with you - the arts and artists are amazing how they speak, inspire, change people in as many or more different ways as there are different people. Makes one wonder why the arts are one of the first things schools wants to cut when there is a budget crises.

  • @TinaLT1 Either your trolling or dipshit retarded

  • @piratesthatpwn

HAHA! i agree i couldn't find a sensible word of that persons comments. If SM was trying to rep some fuck jesus shit, she would be more active about it.

  • @TinaLT1 Oh shut up! I love Jesus but I can see that this song has little if anything to do with him! You are crazy.

  • @TinaLT1 "Do not judge or you too will be judged." - Mark 7:1

Figure yourself out before you try to figure me :)

I hope you have a fine ass day, Miss Tina.

  • I DON'T FULLY GET THE "MYSTERY." Please, someone REALLY explain...Please. It sounds like she's mocking priests or anyone from the Cloth. Please tell... And, yes, I saw Sarah and Lisa Loab live in Champaign, Illinois, 1997, I think. I was Nineteen. I loved it! I also met them, bc they were staying at a hotel I was working at and mat them by the front doors. They were very down 2 earth-like. And gorgeous.

  • @vocaltalent1 The mystery is the guys hidden persona

IE this Man hides his emotions form others

I can explain it line by line if you wish

  • seriously who's thumbing this down? beautiful song, and you see the title, you know what you're getting. thanks for the video.

  • i went to a concert with her in it

  • I always loved this song so much

  • this is my FAVORITE song by her!!!! Love it!!!! such a beautiful song!!!!

  • excellent lyrics, I was surprised to see fuck there, excellent!

  • @Mrsteddyz I wasn't hell I remember when this came out she was known as a more rowdy person, as she went through her career she became more mellow

  • @Mrsteddyz

    i know

  • thats a very good song it awakes very much memories

  • what is this song about

  • @poisonchick66 the song is about how people set up walls / "build" a mystery around them.. to be more interesting / beautiful to the outside world..and that if you'd just be yourself, that is even more beautiful than any mystery or image you can make up.

  • her voice - the lyrics. haunting and classic.

  • i love this song

  • I like this song and including "Sweet Surrender"

  • Those are my two favorite songs as well!

  • this is song takes my breath away. the words are deep and the her voice is amazing.
