  • SKINS

  • she bring back faith that there is still great music!!! Peace, Zola! :)

  • Skins has good taste in music!

  • OMG i'm obsessed with this song

  • The first part of this video is the most esoteric reference I've ever scene, It's from a silent film from the 20's!!!!! AhhhHhh!!!!!

  • From Skins ;)

  • skins. again.

  • her voice kind of reminds me of Florence and the Machine?

  • SKINS

  • @TheCopperStyle NO.

  • skins fuckin loves zola jesus

  • skins skins skins

  • SKINS! Frankie's episode.

  • <3 Her videos are some of the most interesting that I've found in a long time. yay!

  • perpare for: SKINS BROUGHT ME HERE (just a heads up)

  • @IndeExo It's so annoying, right? When I read comments like that, I think "You watched Skins so you came here, and what?"

  • @IndeExo skins actually brought me to zola jesus, because of the trailer music, and so I checked her other tracks, and I love it. so what's the problem, when people start listening to Zola Jesus because of skins?

  • @IcequeenNarzissa I knew it was gonna be on frankys episode before it aired. thats why

  • @IndeExo Yeah I also saw it in one of her preview ep clips..the one when she runs out of her exams and visits luke then

  • thats fucking art

  • Nika living on the hunt in the country made you strong. Don't forget your roots. Very powerful. Keep rocking ;) !!! Don't stop creating and don't get caught up in what isn't real! Love

  • Lana Del Ray has to clean Zola Jesus' shoes with her plastic tongue!

  • Perfect. <3

  • What did she say in the end?????

  • i dont like this song .. i LOVE it !!

  • She sounds a lot like Florence... I like her!

  • Comment removed

  • good

  • Love it! So perfect

  • Beatiful - both the music and the performer

  • Very good. Glad I found this.

  • Magnifique! Accro à ce titre!!!

  • I love it so much. At first i didn't like it, but it just kept growing on me and now i'm addicted.

  • pop transvestited as gothic

  • Crushed my dubiety...

  • I like it... It's very dark, mysterious and melancholic music..

  • she is so pretentious. when asked for her favourite songs of the year she submitted her favourite liquids.

  • warning: this music attracts obnoxious hipsters. leave now leave now!

  • @SanguineBullet667 IF you do know this to be fact(which is doubtful) Then why not just leave quietly?

  • @SanguineBullet667 Was SanguineBullet666 taken?

  • the way she sings reminds me of the singer of "the knife"

  • guess zola or the clip director really like jean cocteau...

  • Ridley Scott's lost Siouxie and the Banshees music video.

  • Bread butt is this song darker than "exterminating angel" or "unforgotten"?

  • She sounds exactly like Siouxsie... I heard this song at a club and was like "is this a new Siouxsie song?" Then my friend was no this is Zola Jesus... So Wierd ... I hear she doesn't even credit Siouxsie as an influence even though this song is almost exactly her sound.. Darker than Siouxsie? Clearly some people haven't heard all of Siouxsies or Creatures songs than that statement wouldn't be made

  • @vanizi

From her Wikipedia page under "Music Style and Influences":

"For Q magazine, her "haunting vocals and swirling, electronic athmospherics are located midway between Florence Welch and Siouxsie and the Banshees."[5] She has also been linked to Lisa Gerrard of Dead Can Dance and Elizabeth Frazer of the Cocteau Twins."

  • hellen keller on vocals...

  • hellen keller on vocals...

  • love this stuff. reminiscent of Siouxsie and the Banshees, but darker and more minimalist

  • @breadbutt I hate the word "minimalist." It's tragically overused, though it does almost apply to Zola. I also love your username. God, i love your username.

  • Love the song!!! video has a lot of infuence from peaches and fever ray... really amazing

  • harika! Magnifique!

  • @anatoliart bencede:)

  • I've never gotten around to listening to artists that were just girls alone. I'm such a noob. This girl is a great start though. FUCKING GOOD.

  • BESTTTT

  • Obviously some ppl have different taste. I really enjoy the different sounds amazing

  • 1:57 The All-Seeing Eye

  • like the music, but the video is pretty lame and sad.

  • Recycled...

  • @droeee like everything else I guess

  • @MrDoommetal666

yeah this is alright...but the banshees are way better.

  • Fantastic. She's paying tribute to the previous generation, and doing her own thing. I'm in love.

  • i sawher in my issue of NYLON so i found thi.s...

  • I love it. The voice, the dan flavian illumination, the gothci athmosphere, the Caravagggio apropriation

  • Ahh i love her! Her mom is my homeroom teacher :D

  • @toricool971 Now way! Jealous. She's such a beautiful musician.

  • This song is actually one of her better ones. I though i really liked her! but she is really one dimensional. New album = MEH, live performance = MEH. So many others do this kind of think way better.

  • @pancakerepairman amiga no es pop ella hace musica neo-gothica y es una muy buena propuesta!

  • Singing lessons wouldn't hurt. Probably wouldn't be useful either. Reduce the video quality to VHS and its a great 1980s self indulgent pile of crap...

  • @LarrytheSock can't really complain about singing lessons when she studied opera for 10 years, while most "singers" only used their showers to get better and have no idea what range is.

  • wow :)

  • Grande.

  • wow I was waiting for something to start happening but then I realized that it wasn't an interesting song and that it would keep on being boring

  • she is so fine

  • IT'S SO 90'S!

  • @edon940 It feels like a Siouxsie/Eurithmics mash up to me. So late 70s lol. Maybe all music is just looping in on itself in our time.

  • @LandofFrost you're right. Creativity is also causal Ego-copypasting!

  • it's so wunderful slow.. :)

  • I don't intend to insult anyone's taste, but this is complete foolishness. Listen to Jarboe; listen to Diamonda Galas; listen to Soap & Skin instead.

  • @nycic why.

  • @nycic Or listen to them all, or none, depending on what music you enjoy.

  • orpheus

  • Never heard of her before today. Awesome song and video.

  • this is so cool, its the atmos of apocoltyptic love . its so emotionally intense and dark but theres the knowing youll die victorious in your lovers arms.

  • Not going to lie, I found her out by the magazine Nylon. Good thing too. :)

  • i love her

  • I really like the homage to Jean Cocteau's Blood of a Poet.

  • What a load of bollocks.Aload of psudi intellectuals with their ears up their arses.........

  • @SlawkoMarcinkiw: Do you mean "pseudo-intellectuals"? If you're trying to insult someone by attacking their intelligence and pretending you're vastly more intellectual, you're might consider avoiding embarrassing yourself by misspelling big words you don't usually use. Both times.

  • What a load of bollocks.Aload of psudi intellectuals with their ears up their arses.........

  • She reminds me Lady GaGa, but Zola is much better.

  • Oh, what a fantastic song

  • video's a little pathetic, like the music, though.

  • there's a really bad trip hop influence here.

  • @jasonledyard1 wtf you don't even know what trip hop is you asshole

  • @MetalHead4Evah ,

I know a Hipster Trip Hop song when I hear it!

This Band is VERY Hipster Indie.

  • @jasonledyard1: presumably you are a hipster? Only hipsters call independent labels "indie".

If you think this is trip hop or hipster music, you might consider some education. But considering your previous comments, facts and further knowledge won't budge an opinion so steeped in bitterness and musical ignorance.

Forgive me, everyone else, for feeding the peevish troll.

  • I have Opinions About Music.

  • @b0ner hey well i disagree go f yourself im right

  • @b0ner Really? Me too!

  • lol @ the two hipsters having a dick waving contest on these comments

  • Beautiful woman, beautiful voice

  • i'd hit it

  • awesome

  • Boring emo trance music. All style no substance.I wonder which huge record company is behind this possible next big thing. Her voice is mainstream and comparisons to Souxsie are insulting But then again Souxsie is boring as hell for the most part too.She just looks great. She only got famous for being associated with the early punk scene being a woman and dressing semi -provocatively in a weird Gothic manner.Sometime you really can make a career out of pure novelty.

  • @MrAzdaz sorry you are blind to genuinely good music. Most of what you said is completely false. Boring-opinion. Emo-not even. Trance-you have no idea what trance is if you classify this as trance. Her voice-definetly not "mainstream". And she is not at all signed to a major label. Fact check before you post your absurdist assumptions.

  • @electrofreek303 If she does,nt have a major record label signing she soon will.Which btw is not an indication of any talent or her part. They will simply recognise her mainstream banality and water it down even more to pander to the mindless masses and idiots like yourself.Btw im listening to the clash right now what are you listening to?Temper Trap?Navel gazing crap. You know nothing about good musicThat's the truth.Dirge dirge dirge.Thank you and good night.

  • @MrAzdaz my likening to one song by an artist does not dictate my entire musical taste, thank you. and currently i am listening to the velvet underground. please, talk to me about good music...i bet we have more in common than you think

  • @electrofreek303 Probably true. Yeah ofc i love the velvets and most of the stuff by Lou Reed.It seems you do have taste but we disagree on this artist.Which is fine i guess.Do you like Sufjan Stevens or Clap Your Hands say Yeah?Just thought id throw so more recent music out there. There not bad.I just went to see Jello Biafra and the Gutanamo Bay of Medicine last week.Great gig.Lots of Dead Kennedys played.

  • @jasonledyard1 okay. post good what you think is good music. just post something not from the idea-bankrupt (wtf does that mean? do you really think that this song's execution hints at a total lack of thought? lmao) hipster camp that you think is true, great, goth.

  • @jasonledyard1 have you ever head of a genre called Darkwave? It came from the late 70s and 80's with bands like Joy Division, The Chameleons, and Clan of Xymox. Darkwave was never that big, but has existed underground for about 30 years. Zola Jesus is more of that genre. It's not a hipster genre, unless you consider 80's goth music, which is very different than the modern so-called goth music, to be hipster. To say a Darkwave singer "rips off goth" is like saying all metal rips off Led Zeppelin

  • @MaikeruThanos ,

While Darkwave is a sub-genre of Goth, Darkwave has been trampled by bands and writers with so much inaccurate use that it is no longer useful or coherent. The post-wall german electronic goth wave of music was probably the best use for the genre name, but as Dark is a common adjective and Wave has been used as a description since the invention of synths, it got applied often without people's knowledge of history.

  • its a trap!

  • i love it!

  • Siouxsie has an serious heiress

  • cu at dockville

  • Great!

  • great song! thanks for sharing it!

  • Nika Danilova! Graduate of UW Madison! GO BADGERS!!!

  • she kinda has a florence tone.

  • I can't believe the beauty of what I'm listening to. It wakes up so many feelings inside me. Feelings I didn't knew I had. Thank you Zola Jesus for your magnificent music.

  • Siouxsie wanna-be

  • peculiar and beautiful

  • mediocre

  • She sounds so much like Florence :)

  • THE LAST BEAT OF MY HEART,

    Please.

  • Thank god Goth Metal scene is over and new bands and artists are coming along like Zola Jesus. The new lo fi scene is creative and underground.

    Brilliant women.

  • @MrRjmac agreed. Goth was always about creativity, not endless operatic metal stuff. (I would say that's not even goth, but whatever).

This is MUCH more like it. More please.

  • stupid crap noises.

  • Zola Jesus is a must see live. Saw her last night. Amazing <3

  • This is a cool song.

  • niiiice!

  • she will be featuring heavily in M83's new album... cant wait

  • I Love it ! Great sound !

  • I lovet it ! Great sound !

  • Anybody that channels a touch of Siouxsie, does it correctly and opens up for Fever Ray has got my vote. So if it's New Wave, Post-Modern, Dark-wave, New Romantic, Cold-wave, REAL Goth, Post-Punk Influences...Oh... Good Music is back !!!!

  • Zola Jesus is God!

  • @adoptedbyapopmachine Are you kidding? Bat for lashes is BOOOORING. lame lame lame

  • @rabidabbey lol you have bad taste in music

  • @adoptedbyapopmachine

You do not have a monopoly on good taste.

  • @rabidabbey Bat for Lashes is more annoying than boring, I'd say.

  • It's gross to hear so many people trying to compare Zola to Florence + The Machine. I hardly find them comparable. The vibes and songs are dimensions apart from another and thus I don't think their voices should be compared either. Zola is obviously not trying to sing the way Florence does - she doesn't want to be a vocal diva - that's not the point of her music. She is generating a specific vibe through the way she does sing - and guess what? It's perfect.

  • Such sweet lyrics. The video is like a horror movie in a good way.

  • Ναι μωρή κομματάρα.......

  • Wonder if Santogold's-"Les artistes" was Dir. by the same person-there's def. a commonality..

  • I can't wait to see this show next week!!!!

  • I CANT WAIT TO SEE THEM TONIGHT

  • @FibrousAcquiescence no one cares what you think.....someone slap your mother for producing such a egocentric and desperate person by going to any means to be heard.

  • @TheJoshjosh1986 lol. The end. Bye now.

  • This reminds me of late 90s Creatures when Siouxsie and Budgie went quite techno. Check out the track "2nd Floor" and you will see what I mean. This is derivative but it is done very well and that is a big part of making great records as after all this time nothing is truly original.

  • what an awesome song my God!!! i loooooooove it

  • Even something with the depth of a pie tin can be dark with the lights out.

  • Not my cup of tea....

  • sooo good:)

  • Wow, she sounds kind of like Fiona Apple. Love this song!

  • love it!!!

  • her look her reminds me of blade runner

  • @lovelydisarray indeed

  • Yes Lene... Lucky Numbers..
