I get the impression that Mr. Kenyon doesn't have much experience flying in the "hot and high" conditions of the American southwest. Having flown FW aircraft in Arizona for many years, density altitude is always considered prior to flying. I remember flying 2 passengers around Tucson in July in a C-172---it took quite awhile to get to cruise altitude, with the stall warning horn constantly sounding with the slightest increase in pitch or any turbulence.
Yes I know the tail rotor did not hit first, what I ment to say the tail rotor broke off in my view and then I seen all this dust flying. The helicopter skids hit the ground first then the tail rotor comes off. Sometimes in a interview your words can get mixed up because of nerves just like it is not Acrobatics but Aerobatics. Thanks Tina
"...and he says (Dennis) he simply underestimated the density altitude." Why would anyone ever estimate density altitude when it can be calculated? Unfortunately Dennis' accident was completely his own fault. Lack of proper flight planning was what put him in danger and the helicopters safety systems is was what saved him. Unfortunately people are going to look at this and think that helicopters are dangerous when the truth is quite the opposite.
I don't think that choppers are dangerous. Not at all...actually quite safe. I was saying that this video will further reinforce the idea in others that helicopters are dangerous. That's actually why I posted my comment...to hopefully help the non flying public understand what really happened.
Wow,, Cheddar Valley, I used to skydive there in 79 and 80, is the burned out house still there?

I'm quite sure is tail rotor didn't hit the ground first.... I guess Tina didn't watch the video she filmed...
Anyways that guy knows what he is doing.
HE came in straight and level with forward speed which accounted for much of his luck.
I estimate he needed 100ft more of altitude to pull that one off to WOW the crowd.
It looks like he already has a new heli in his backyard! :-)

Well done Tim,
Well done Tina,
Son of a .....
He underestimated THE EFFECT of the high density altitude. He readily acknowledged that it was completely his own fault.

Not sure what makes you think helicopters aren't so dangerous.....

That is strange I just read about two helicopter crashes this week...
I do however agree that performing these helicopter stunts add quite a bit of risk to the pilot/bystanders.
