Not sure what the temps were but intend to do pretty much the same in the middle of January on the East Coast of Canada. Shooting for -25 if I am lucky enough. Cheers, building the same structure but probably more prepared.

No. Facing the opening so it absorbs the most daylight would mean facing your shelter opening to the north in the southern hemisphere. Thanks for that correction!

I liked the second song about chaga tea(it's a medicinal fungus that grows on birch trees).
