  • @hanumanji1961 Agreed- Imma 70'schic all day-everydayyyyyy- The Coolest Classic's Circulation

  • classic

  • LOVE THE BASS LINE IN THIS SONG!

  • But 4reel4reel didn't our parents and older persons say the exact thing about our music?Another trick of the deceiver divide and conquer.

  • When a singer actually needed to know how to sing. We weren't too worried about how cute or sexy they were. If only we could get singers like this again.

  • When music was MUSIC; no sampling.

  • WHAT IS THIS THING CALLED HIP??? THE ANSWER IS: THE SOUND OF "SOUL' FLOWING THROUGH A PEOPLE WHO ARE RENOWN FOR THEIR MUSIANSHIP, WRITING, PRODUCING AND CREATING MASTERPIECES, SUCH AS THIS ONE--IF THERE BE ANY DOUBTS, JUST CHECK OUT OUR TRACK RECORD(S) THAT STILL STANDS--SOUNDS LIKE THEY JUST STEPPED OUTTA THE STUDIO TO ME AND I KNOW THIS JAM IS OVER 1/4 CENTURY OLD AND IS 'STILL AS HIP AS EVER"--THAT BASSLINE RIFF BY BRO. MICHAEL @ 2:01 IS A CLASSIC HIP THANG! ALL PRAISES TO THE MOST HIGH!!!

  • One of the best duets --- EVER.

  • Feelin the old school right here

  • SOUL MUSIC, BABY!!!!!!

  • hard as hell

  • Pure genius! After living through the 70's & 80's, how can I even attempt to call today's noise "music???"

  • The greatest duet/song of all time. Anybody disagree with that?

  • @SwingItLikeMoe Yes, I disagree with that. His duet with Roberta Flack, 'At The Concert', is a masterpiece.

  • @Hania454 LOL, I just heard the duet with Robert Flack and there is no way that duet is better than this one with phyliss Hyman, lol......sorry.

  • @SwingItLikeMoe Lol, you're wrong, ... sorry, but I forgive you, lol.

  • @Hania454 Will somebody help me here, lol? I need more help from you all to show to Hania the THIS duet is better than the one Michael Henderson did with Roberta Flack? Any help? I also forgive you Hania.

  • @SwingItLikeMoe Michaeal Henderson/ Roberta At the Concert released in the spring of 1977

reach number#4 on the R&B charts. Roberta later went to sing her greatest duets with Donny Hathaway.

Songs like ... The Closer I get to You. and Back Together again.

  • Whoa....took me back! I haven't heard this song in years!!!! Nice memories!

  • There is something magical about a person who can Sing and play the Bass like this.

  • You ever wonder why some artists didn't hit it really really big? I always wondered that about Michael Henderson. His talent is phenomenal. Love this song. Thank you for posting.

  • Rena Scott reminds me of Miki Howard

  • This is 1 of my classic Jams here

  • OMG, dreamed about this song last night and had to look it up, some of the new artist can come close but never give me the feeling and memories like these!

  • What a great song; I love this. Got so much soul and I love soul - no matter the ethnicity, religion, gender, whatever if "you either have soul or you don't." I do love love this song. Thanks for the post.

  • I so love this song. It brings back such good memories.

  • Theme song back in the day

  • MCHAEL HENDERSON,.....TAKE ME I'M YOURS!!!

  • HAPPY MONDAY......I'M HERE!!!! YALL HERE....WE HERE!!!! NUFF SAID....CATCH YA LATER...I'M WORKING BEHIND THE SCENES TODAY!!!! LUV YA...P

  • i don't think you people understand, there has ALWAYS been bad music. it's just that today's bad music gets played on the radio and TV. it's not like everyone was a genius up until recently, and they just started sucking at music...

  • @svendiamond Please The late 60s 70s 80s & Early 90s The Music Had Quality. R&B Thats

Whats Missing Today. Accomplished Muscians who Can Make Quality Music

  • @BlackPride1000 No. There are still talented musicians today. You really think that in the year 2000, every single good musician stopped making music and all the bad ones took over? No. And do you really think that there were never any bad musicians from the 60s - 90s?? There were plenty! It's just that nowadays the less-talented musicians can still get on the radio/TV because the way the music industry has changed with the Internet.

  • @BlackPride1000 I agree. The music landscape began to change in the late

80's and early 90's with more hip-hop being played on the airwaves. That's

when quality music began to take a backseat ,and the recording artist of the 70's

up to the middle 80's were no longer marketable. Yes, we lacking young singers today

    with that quality "old-school" sound.

  • Music like this ...give me more, yum-yum what else is in store. There is nothing better than this.

  • Micheal Henderson was under rated singer/ bass player. I saw him several times. Some music sounds good on the albums but live concert tells the truth. Henderson gave a excellent show. I remember seeing him at the Bottom Line. Henderson stole the mind of my female date, the show was that good. This guy could sing and play the bass.

  • Where are my Chicago Steppers????!!!!

  • Great song...yes I met her and I still remember our first kiss and a lifetime of love!

  • Heyyyy

  • Something about this song reminds me of Miki Howard and Gerald Levert singing "That's What Love Is". Miki Howard also sounds like Rena Scott.

  • Off the chain....just another time when men and women sang to each other!!!!

  • Songs like this remind one of the time when Love was real and the feeling it brought being with your lady and everything was right in the world. Sad though the only way to experience true love is to find your soulmate, and when you do a little old school love songs like this one can set the mood just right.

  • what a classic!

  • BAD ASS SONG! Take Me! I'm Your's!

  • Love it

  • thanks..i learned the bass lines on this song in high school...Michael taught me a lot!

  • I got excited when I first heard that you wanted to meet me! I just traveled back in time when I was teenager and love was brand new. This happens every time I play

    this song its like magic!

  • @GQflash1 - I feel you, I was in love for the very first time as a teenager when this R&B song was released in 1978, I was on cloud nine, lol, I can't help but to think back to that time in my life when I hear this timeless piece of music...

  • This sounds so gooooooood. Michael is fabulous. Where are the young men singing like this. Saw him live at the Troubador on Sunset blvd. Baby, he was absolutely captivating. I forgot the guy I came with. Damn......

  • This has to go down as one of the greatest R&B songs EVER!! I remember playing this song in my car and my ex almost lost her mind, lol.

  • This has to go down as one of the greatest R&B songs EVER!!

  • Vanessa4u4evr

They have the talent but they dont have the adversity that gave us the passion in the music

  • This was the deal when i was coming up !!!

  • Did you know that Michael Henderson is coming to the UK in January??. Love this song, he's in Blackpool for a Special Soul Show with Jean Carne!! Cant wait.. info on luxury soul weekender . com

  • This reminds me of my parents, I can see my dad singing to my mom and my mom dancing and singing. The music from back then had such great feeling and meaning. The feeling I get from listening to this is so awesome it just makes me smile!

  • Wicked music!

  • This is the best memories back in the day......even better now..Thank you baby for sharing

  • Yes!

  • Yeah, some black singers of today just don't have the soul and passion like this when they sing, it's all rap and not enough actual mouthing out words to tunes and also where's all the good melodies?? Songs actually meant something back then if you listened really well to the lyrics, all it is nowadays is BUMP & GRIND!!

  • This is Soul with a Capital S !!!

    Yours In soul Simon

  • This ballad brings back GOOD memories. The time in my life when things were simple.

And "falling in LOVE" was something that could happen suddenly between a Girl & Guy.

Now, LOVE is like a "mine field."

Babyboomers, WE need to bring the GOOD times back!

  • @Erionnacirema Actually things weren't simple, just only to you... You as a child couldn't understand what was going on then. I catch myself saying the same thing. But life has never ever been simple, not to get too philosophical LoL!!!

  • Never mind--wrong Rena. The Champaign singer is Rena Jones. I googled it.

  • Somebody tell me: Is this the same Rena Scott that sang with the group Champaign???

  • Great man...but unfortunately he succumbed to evil of drugs and alcohol......such a shame.....who knows what could have been of Michael..... hope ur clean now!

  • .....omg...the best song....my sister and love plaing this on our pioneer system...

  • THAT WAS ME AND DERBY'S SONG!!!!!!!!!

    MARYFISHER

  • Hyattsville, MD.. 1980 !!

  • I still get that "Mack: feelin' every single time I hear this joint, I have all of Michael's stuff on CD and sometimes i listen to this and "In the Night Time" on repeat. This was a brother on his game at the highest level. My favorite sound byte: when he breaks it down towards the end of the song and says "FEELS SO GOOD!" Like the honey is layin right there next to him! Pimptastic!

  • What does any this have to do with that great song. I'm the mother of 7 living in the burbs( Warren,MI) but so close to the hood /ghetto( Detroit) you can smell the barbecue across 8 mile. All parents can do is lead by example.Be that great role model for your children. Don't try to be friends with them, be a parent! .Don't forget to pray.Remember 1Cor 15:33 Do not be misled, bad associations spoil useful habiits.Color is not the issue, it's the friends they hang with and imitate.

  • vanessa4u4ever: You said a mouthful. Even thought I was a little girl I still understood the dynamics of passion, love and power! Now, I am 38 and hating the way things are now especially with our youth and black America......

  • San Diego 1980

  • @PEORIA1959

I was in San Diego Valentine's Show whene Michael Henderson, The Bar-Kays, Rose Royce an Evelyn "Champagne" King came to town and they did 2 Shows into the wee houes of the morning. Were you there during those Shows? If you were, you might remember me, I worked at 92 star 5. Those were some good tomes back then.

  • @kayefullylove yes i do remeber you you worked the morning shift or 8 to midnight bright?

  • @PEORIA1959

Yes Peoria, I worked the 10 pm-12 am at first when I started on the air at XHRM-FM.

Then I worked mid-days after that.

We had some good times during those days. Thanks for remembering me:)

  • love this one

  • Beautiful song. I pity the fool that didn't like it. thanks

  • pimpalistic, what a powerful production!

  • Still plenty of black folk makin music!!!

  • i grew up on this music and it's the best!!! thank god for old-school music stations, youtube, iTunes, etc -- through them this music will live forever!!

  • I agree with vanessa4u4evr, my son who is only 27 relates to this music because my ex and I brought our children up to love MUSIC that had soul. However, many geniune artist that recognized the soul black people gave to music emmulated that soul in their music. The Darrel Oaks, Juila Fordham to name a few sung their music with soul too. Thanks U- Tube for the love

  • I saw Michael live in Saginaw Michigan in the late 70's. High School! Dramatics, Michael Henderson! Live!!

  • @Sybenett --I feel you Sy- and the funny thing about music--it has the magic to transport us back so that for just an instant (or longer) we are right there...our bodies feel like we are there, we can almost taste the food, hear the sounds and background sounds, feel the fabric--then we open our eyes and it melts away. There really is a kind of magic in music.

  • I love Michael Henderson--with is sexy self!!!! He is --and was so fine!!!

Such a manly, masculine voice!!!! Sing!!!!!!!

  • For all you rocking chair whiners, lamenting about the degradation in music--what exactly did you think the progression of music that included 'freak of the week', 'freddy's dead' 'sh$@, GD get off your ass and jam" was going to lead? Every generation wants to shock and set themselves apart. If old school was the epitome, and disrespecting marriage and parenting was already going on and we ignored it or defended/justified the lifestyles in the hood--what did you guys really expect?

  • Love this song. Chip--from ISU 1979-1981 if you are still out there, email me. LOL

  • WOW...CLASSIC CLASSIC!!!!

  • @vanessa4u4evr i know 'other races' mightve hated black folks, but i know the vast majority of us latinos love y'alls music, old skool jams are part of our culture, my parents listened to it, i do, and my daughters will too- (not to mention the african influence in latino music)- i have nothing but the deepest admiration and respect for what black folks have done

  • @aztecadog People should not confuse Hispanics with Latinos. Many latinos (and latinas) identify with blacks because they also have african in their ancestry. That includes J lo, big Pun, etc. Hispanics tend to like country music and as much are more ethnocentric even as whites want to push them back into their countries.

  • wow what a great song it makes you wanna dance.

  • One of my favorite Michael Henderson duets. Rena sounds so good. But I STILL love the one he did with Phyllis Hyman. She was my baby.

  • When I was young and first heard this song, I searched forever trying to find out the female vocalist who song this song. Now I find out by reading post that she was a lady nmaed Rena Scott. So under-rated!

  • It may take skipping over an entire generation to get black music back on course to what it use to be because this current generation has done very little to uphold the quality that black music once was. I really miss this kind of sound and i thank god for the music of yesteryear

  • Wondering why Rena Scott was not acknowledged on the album as featured on this song? Without her voice, it wouldn't have been a hit. Big props to Detroit's own, Rena Scott!

  • take me i"ll b yours........

  • Brother is a gifted musician listen at those vocals, NO COMPUTER generated sounds, yes in deedy!

  • This was back when men were men, and it was ok to be a lady. They said what they meant and meant what they said.....a true southern lady

  • This was back when men were and it was ok to be a lady. When said what they meant and meant what they said.......a true southern lady

  • i love this c.d

  • does this have some funk in it?

  • @dannyneedshelp sure fuckin does

  • OH YES...!!! This brings back such Memories..

  • Brings back memories of a real good time in m y life, its great to hear this again, thanks youtube.

  • Michael Henderson was hot only a great balladeer, but an incredible bass player too! I mean this dude could funk with the best: Louis Johnson, Stever Arrington, Bootsy Collins, the legends of funk...

  • Magic time

  • I heard this one frequently on Magic 95.9

in Baltimore in the late 1990s.

  • Man this taking me back. Wow !!!!! Anna
