vanessa4u4ever: You said a mouthful. Even thought I was a little girl I still understood the dynamics of passion, love and power! Now, I am 38 and hating the way things are now especially with our youth and black America......
I was in San Diego Valentine's Show whene Michael Henderson, The Bar-Kays, Rose Royce an Evelyn "Champagne" King came to town and they did 2 Shows into the wee houes of the morning. Were you there during those Shows? If you were, you might remember me, I worked at 92 star 5. Those were some good tomes back then.

Were you there during those Shows? If you were, you might remember me, I worked at 92 star 5 as a Disc Jockey then. Those were some good times also.
i grew up on this music and it's the best!!! thank god for old-school music stations, youtube, iTunes, etc -- through them this music will live forever!!
I agree with vanessa4u4evr, my son who is only 27 relates to this music because my ex and I brought our children up to love MUSIC that had soul. However, many geniune artist that recognized the soul black people gave to music emmulated that soul in their music. The Darrel Oaks, Juila Fordham to name a few sung their music with soul too. Thanks U- Tube for the love
@Sybenett --I feel you Sy- and the funny thing about music--it has the magic to transport us back so that for just an instant (or longer) we are right there...our bodies feel like we are there, we can almost taste the food, hear the sounds and background sounds, feel the fabric--then we open our eyes and it melts away. There really is a kind of magic in music.
For all you rocking chair whiners, lamenting about the degradation in music--what exactly did you think the progression of music that included 'freak of the week', 'freddy's dead' 'sh$@, GD get off your ass and jam" was going to lead? Every generation wants to shock and set themselves apart. If old school was the epitome, and disrespecting marriage and parenting was already going on and we ignored it or defended/justified the lifestyles in the hood--what did you guys really expect?
@vanessa4u4evr i know 'other races' mightve hated black folks, but i know the vast majority of us latinos love y'alls music, old skool jams are part of our culture, my parents listened to it, i do, and my daughters will too- (not to mention the african influence in latino music)- i have nothing but the deepest admiration and respect for what black folks have done
@aztecadog People should not confuse Hispanics with Latinos. Many latinos (and latinas) identify with blacks because they also have african in their ancestry. That includes J lo, big Pun, etc. Hispanics tend to like country music and as much are more ethnocentric even as whites want to push them back into their countries.
When I was young and first heard this song, I searched forever trying to find out the female vocalist who song this song. Now I find out by reading post that she was a lady nmaed Rena Scott. So under-rated!
It may take skipping over an entire generation to get black music back on course to what it use to be because this current generation has done very little to uphold the quality that black music once was. I really miss this kind of sound and i thank god for the music of yesteryear
Wondering why Rena Scott was not acknowledged on the album as featured on this song? Without her voice, it wouldn't have been a hit. Big props to Detroit's own, Rena Scott!
Michael Henderson was hot only a great balladeer, but an incredible bass player too! I mean this dude could funk with the best: Louis Johnson, Stever Arrington, Bootsy Collins, the legends of funk...
ACTUALLY GREG, DTMILLER. AND @lsaAmonRa the FEMALE SINGER IS RENA SCOTT. She had never sang Professionally let alone as a Duet Singer. @BlackPride1000 I agree. The music landscape began to change in the late
80's and early 90's with more hip-hop being played on the airwaves. That's
when quality music began to take a backseat ,and the recording artist of the 70's
up to the middle 80's were no longer marketable. Yes, we lacking young singers today
with that quality "old-school" sound.

What does any this have to do with that great song. I'm the mother of 7 living in the burbs( Warren,MI) but so close to the hood /ghetto( Detroit) you can smell the barbecue across 8 mile. All parents can do is lead by example.Be that great role model for your children. Don't try to be friends with them, be a parent! .Don't forget to pray.Remember 1Cor 15:33 Do not be misled, bad associations spoil useful habiits.Color is not the issue, it's the friends they hang with and imitate.

vanessa4u4ever: You said a mouthful. Even thought I was a little girl I still understood the dynamics of passion, love and power! Now, I am 38 and hating the way things are now especially with our youth and black America......

Were you there during those Shows? If you were, you might remember me, I worked at 92 star 5. Those were some good tomes back then.

Love this song. Chip--from ISU 1979-1981 if you are still out there, email me. LOL

@vanessa4u4evr i know 'other races' mightve hated black folks, but i know the vast majority of us latinos love y'alls music, old skool jams are part of our culture, my parents listened to it, i do, and my daughters will too- (not to mention the african influence in latino music)- i have nothing but the deepest admiration and respect for what black folks have done
aztecadog 1 year ago
@aztecadog People should not confuse Hispanics with Latinos. Many latinos (and latinas) identify with blacks because they also have african in their ancestry. That includes J lo, big Pun, etc. Hispanics tend to like country music and as much are more ethnocentric even as whites want to push them back into their countries.

One of my favorite Michael Henderson duets. Rena sounds so good. But I STILL love the one he did with Phyllis Hyman. She was my baby.

I really miss this kind of sound and i thank god for the music of yesteryear
summersbr1 1 year ago
Wondering why Rena Scott was not acknowledged on the album as featured on this song? Without her voice, it wouldn't have been a hit. Big props to Detroit's own, Rena Scott!

Michael Henderson was hot only a great balladeer, but an incredible bass player too! I mean this dude could funk with the best: Louis Johnson, Stever Arrington, Bootsy Collins, the legends of funk...
