@ellinor98, I know how you feel!!! I've saved $700 for my riding lessons, so I'll be able to have lessons for the next year or so! I try not to go shopping with my mom, or anyone. The only stuff I'll buy will be stuff that I'd need for riding, like a helmet or jodhpurs. And let's say I'm in a store, and I reaaaallllyy want this toy, I tell myself, "What will I really do with this? In a week or so, I'll lose interest in this toy and it would be a waste of money." That usually does the trick for
Question: There's this horse I ride in an Equestrian Center. Every time I try and mount him he edge away from me swishing his tail so I ALWAYS have to get help. Have any tips on how to stop this?
@VictorianReflection It sounds like he's had people hurt him when they mount. Since he's a school horse, this will be hard to correct without getting every single person who gets on him to be more careful!!! Always come down softly in the saddle, and be very careful not to yank on the saddle, which will put pressure on his withers. The behavior you see is him saying that sometimes it hurts when people get on!
@chedog08 You hurt your horse's withers if you twist the saddle getting on, which can happen mounting from the ground or from a block. The trick is to not pull on the saddle ;) But, you are right in that it is much easier to twist the saddle when mounting from the ground and not from a mounting block. It's just that some of us don't have blocks ;)
@EnglandsDarliinQ They are made by heritage performance, and several online vendors sell them ;) If you google search "leopard print riding gloves" you can find them :D Good luck!
@TexasEquestrain4111 The saddle pad was actually a Christmas gift for my mom and me ;) So I'm not sure where it's from! I'll ask my mom and see if she knows...
@loveponies12 It depends a little on what kind of girth you have--if you have a no-slip girth that's elastic on both sides (which I have for my jumping saddle) or a Western cinch you can actually overtighten them. You want to be able to at least get a finger or two in under the girth. If you can get more than two fingers in, it's probably too loose.
@MegaHorsesaremylife I think you mean the ones with rubber bands on the side of the stirrup? No, I don't. They aren't great for more advanced riding, because the bands just pop off and your foot falls out. But I always make sure the stirrup bars are down, so that the stirrups can slide free if necessary.
your videos are very helpful:)Thankyou for taking the time to make these:)) Do you know what i could do to keep my heels down at canter at all times because during the summer i fell and ever since my heels go up every time i canter
@kamiilikiihorses You can practice hanging off the edge of a stair with your heels to help stretch your calves and get them used being down. In the saddle, two-point work is always good to help keep your heels down. Also, imagining your weight dropping down through your heels (rather than onto your toes) can help.
@kamiilikiihorses if you think about spreading your toes out, like a frog, trying to get them allas far apart from each other as you can, your heels will come down, or at least that worked for me :P
@aenize4444 They're sturdy and have great grip, and I love the pattern ;) They aren't the softest of materials, and, like most riding gloves, don't keep your hands very warm. Other than that, I really like them!
@ThinkingOfYou104 Well, thank you ;) What is the video going to be used for? I'm happy for it to be used in a not-for-profit venture, with credit. Thanks for asking!
@aokamins11 Awesome video thanks for making it! unfortunately though i ride Western! do you have a "how to mount a horse" video in western version? if you don't than, can you please make one! Thank you! :)
@brennamelnyk So glad you liked it! To be perfectly honest, it's the same for Western or English. The only difference is that in a Western saddle with a saddle horn, you get to grab that instead of just the front of the saddle. Easy as pie ;)
@brennamelnyk I can definitely work on that, because I just found a western saddle I can borrow. But until I get the video up, just to let you know it's the same! If anything, Western saddles are easier to climb because the stirrups are longer and you've got a saddle horn to hold ;) So if you follow these steps, it will work even with a Western saddle.
great simplified explanations that new riders will understand but also very knowledgable of horses. I have been formally trained and ridden for 20 years english, western, dressage. good job.
@camiandryry im starting to! i was debating and i chose english. just becuz ther is more of a variety in english. im doing hunter/jumper next march. i have to wait becuz we have to earn the money and she will have more spots open for lessons in the spring. hope this helped you! ( western saddles are more comfortable, but i think english makes ur legs stronger and balance better. And i like a bit more of a challenge!) western is easier in my opinion
@camiandryry You know, it's whatever you want to do! You should look around and see what you have access to, because that might help make your choice for you. Just try a bunch of styles and see what you like!
@camiandryry english u can do more things: like if ur under 18 u can go to pony finals, washington, devon for ponies etc you can do those when u age out of ponies just not pony finals
@ellinor98, It cut me off, but the last word was 'me'. :)
