One thing a lot of people don't seem aware of is that Dubai has some really weird laws. The major problem out there is the lack diversification. Yes Dubai is impressive, but it has been turned into a paved jungle. When I travel, besides collect trinkets, I want to interact with different cultures and find out what makes them uniquely Arab. The real problem with Dubai is the high number of foreign workers who have no stake to stay in a country where you go to debtor's prison if you can't pay your bills. I have a friend in Dubai who sent me the article about 4 months back of 3,000 empty cars at the airport with foreigners fleeing the country. Dubai has expanded real estate far too fast and is facing an even worse problem than America I think.
Yeah had they let these foreign workers become citizens and so letting themselves and their families settle, they would have a stable population that is willing to stay around.

I live in Dubai and except for the first three months of this year, life is coming back to normality, malls are again populated and real estate prices are stabilizing depending on the area (Dubai is quite big). Dubai has grown very fast, has been hit also fast and hard and is now recovering as well quite fast. We are all linked. If bad times happen in most of the world it will have some effect elsewhere.
I don't think Dubai would suffer to the same extent as other nations.
Besides their laws are strict for people f*cking around in finance markets over there!

One thing a lot of people don't seem aware of is that Dubai has some really weird laws. There was a story of a couple that actually went to prison and had to get a lawyer cause they were kissing on a beach (yes, just kissing and not having sex). I don't know the name of the laws there but it's based on their religion. Use youtube to find the video. It's a place I just wouldn't visit. It's not as carefree a place as they advertise.

dUBAI WAS FOOLED BY THE INTERNATIONAL FINANCIEERS TO DEVELOP ITS INFRASTRUCTURE ON BORROWED MONEY BASED ON THE FACT THAT OIL WAS 160$/BARIL BACK THEN. DUBAI TOOK THE BAIT AND THEN THE FINANCIEERS DROPPED THE PRICE OF OIL TO 50-60$ LEAVING DUBAI (AND RUSSIA) IN SHEER AGONY. Now they have to sell shitloads of cheap oil to cover theit MASSIVE infrastructure contracts. It's all a game played by the REAL RICH CONTROLLERS!

The major problem out there is the lack diversification. Yes Dubai is impressive, but it has been turned into a paved jungle. When I travel, besides collect trinkets, I want to interact with different cultures and find out what makes them uniquely Arab. I don't want to run away from the stress of the city life only to end up in an overgrown Las Vegas. 1 good question. How much returns have they gotten from their investments? Isn't that the point of doing business?

The real problem with Dubai is the high number of foreign workers who have no stake to stay in a country where you go to debtor's prison if you can't pay your bills. I have a friend in Dubai who sent me the article about 4 months back of 3,000 empty cars at the airport with foreigners fleeing the country. Dubai has expanded real estate far too fast and is facing an even worse problem than America I think.

Yeah had they let these foreign workers become citizens and so letting themselves and their families settle, they would have a stable population that is willing to stay around.

Sorry to read so much inaccuracy from people who drink tea and gossip. I live in Dubai and except for the first three months of this year, life is coming back to normality, malls are again populated and real estate prices are stabilizing depending on the area (Dubai is quite big). Dubai has grown very fast, has been hit also fast and hard and is now recovering as well quite fast. I wish I could say the same for our Euro Zone or for the U.S. who let's not forget started all of this.

Everybody likes to speculate about this... so dont take everything to serious.
However Dubai has invested massively in tourism, but it can never be a tourist location where familys will go back each year.
Abu Dhabi is much better for a vacation, much more relax, much easier to find your way, no construction on every corner and you dont allways need a car to get anywhere like you need in Dubai.
The atmosphere arround Dubai just isnt a vacation feeling.

Dubai was just a facade, it felt like a HUGE construction yard and nothing more. There was no feeling of being somewhere, just a bunch big buildings. On the other hand, cities like Bahrain, Kuwait City, Doha, Abu Dhabi all felt like they had been well built
Dubai will be something soon, and as a holiday destination remains extremely popular., i can see it becoming something in about 10 years but as of now its got a long way to go.

This what you see is the same as for the stock market everywhere - it has nothing to do with reality it's just more cheap bubble money from the central banks. Trillions are on the way.
But reality will come back to this arrogant shithole called Dubai. They have much more open credits then oil reservers.

About 130 billion US$ - they got a bailout from Abu Dabi in Feb. of 10 billion.

dubai a small state on the persian gulf has got here through mainly the large iranian investment from iranians that are runing away from there own country and investing there, also another large part is from rexport which is mainly in to iran, building few high rises without basic human rights does not make a group of people modern or is not the basis of a modern society,

Nothing wrong with oil and economy there was an artuficial Hi/low oil prices, Some have stole peoples savings from the Stock Market. US loosing its economic Power and the Emerging New Powers in the world like Iran, China. It is alerting for The World Banking systems and the US federal reserve are run by the Jewish minority and they are desparatly trying to start unrest in the world, to protect Israel. Building skyscrapers in the middle of the desert is not development it is madness , if they want to develop they should start first by building democracy , start to have a transparent system and most importantly start working ...you cannot just pay foreigners to do the jobs for you

Dubai problem is speculation and debt, it can emerge from this crises if they follow good policies and restore investor confidence. it will take time.

keep on dreaming...few months ago you all were claiming that Dubai economy did not depend on Oil exports ...now you all are hoping for oil prices to rise ...you can keep on dreaming , I hope to see the day when the west can do without your oil , personally , I ride a bike always did rather than spending one cent of my earned money in gas which will end up in your pockets , oil or no oil , you can drop dead before you see'll the color of my money

ok, but don't you think it is crazy to think that beautiful and great city like Dubai become ghost town and stay that way forever or even very long time? right now credit dried up, this is the problem. however once credit flows into Dubai, it will be fine.

Investors will never came back.
There is no way to get a positive ROI
Question is what are they doing with the half finished buildings. Leaving them like it is will scare away tourists because it looks terrible.

We will see if credit flows back. But: Don't throw good money after bad money. Too many people know it is bad money. But maybe Abu Dahbi is paying it from there oil. Again learn about ROI (Return on investment).
And the silk road never part of Arabia. It was going through south of russia and persia but not middle east. Connecting Europe and Far East. As today the persian deserts were only a "filling station" - nothing changed so far.

Same thing. Cranes stopping from one day to the other. Even 8 years later you saw the unfinished buildings and the cranes (the didn't remove them).
And Bangkok/Thailand did recover because they are a living city.
I can't see this in Dubai. They simply don't have the population to fill all this appartments.
