@amusichound dunno 'bout you and I guess it would depend on the specific location but I'd be hitting the OD splitter as I popped the clutch allowing it to shift up in 8thD before actually going into neutral and drop the clutch going through neutral thus slide into 7thOD as the revs roll back up.
The key would be smooth, I agree shifting the split AFTER making the shift is a BAD move Make it before while in 8th UNLOADED and then it's a straight shift back from 8th OD to 7thOD MUCH smoother.
I want to request you to also make this type of presentation for a15 speed transmission shifting including the diagram with arrows indicating all the gears where the splitter selector/deep reduction button has to be used and also at what gear the range selector will have to be moved to the high range.
I want to know if the deep reduction button on the 15 speed is the same thing as the splitter selector button on the 18 speed but with different names or if they are two different things.
When I drove an International 2030 for Seymores it had a 15 Road Ranger with Splitter. Basically it was a 5 X 3 tranny, in other words Bottom Box X 5 then Middle Box X 5 and then Top Box X 5 BUT you could split the top 5 just as in an 18 essentially it was a 19 Speed but you never used Bottom box unless out in the forestry.
Same basic Shifting patterns just different ratios and method.
Eaton Fuller Transmissions are the best, but hearing about the ultrashift plus where you use buttons it is not something I would like to see on a truck of mine
Where is your video that shows the damage (on a bench) I'm trying to find it for someone and can't
