When I was a kid and Bobby came back, I thought "Well what about Katherine?" If they expected us to suspend disbelief the last thing that happened before Pam went to have her dream was Katherine plotting bloody murder. She threw a drinks glass at her TV. A sure sign of homicidal rage! Whatever happened to that huh?
I think that the producers of Dallas at that time, and Larry Hagman, were all completely wrong to bring Bobby, a character that had been killed off, back into the show. The show never recovered and just went downhill. Patrick Duffy was very selfish in his decision to return to the show. I understand that most of the other actors were furious with his decision because it impacted on their own parts. Look what happened to Donna!
@sara31tx I never thought of that! I don't suppose that Patrick Duffy (or the producers of Dallas or Knots Landing) gave much thought or cared much for continuity when bringing Bobby back. I certainly destroyed Dallas's credibility and was an insulting act by the producers to us loyal fans of both shows. They never recovered.
@MrCityboy1968 They devoted a whole season to Bobby death on Knotslanding..with Val naming one of her twins after Bobby..I never forgot Abby having to tell Gary that his brother died..which explains why Abby was able to do what she did during the Empire Valley fiasco..he was depressed with his brother death.
First of all, Patrick Duffy's parents were killed just after he came BACK from being off the show for a year. Linda Gray herself said as much because everyone was worried about him.
Secondly, Duffy made (mistakenly) a move to capitalize on his fame from the show to try to springboard into movies. Interestingly enough, no one hired him. Larry Hagman convinced him to come back.
Finally, this is REAL tv drama and great writing, where are the shows like this today? No one cares who Kim K. screws.
if u notice when she hits bobby he lands up against the grass almost but when they show pam crawling to him he down somewhat from where he was a original at makes no sense
After Bobby pushes Pam out of the way her shoe falls off and goes under the car. In the next shot she has them both on again! Get continuity on the phone NOW! :-)
Every time I watch this clip, although this was an iconic scene, I didn't realize it before when watching on the scene on TV, but if you notice when Bobby pushes Pam away from the oncoming car, her right shoe comes off and is run over by the right tire of the car, but when the car passes by, what do you know, Pam has the shoe back on, LOL!!!
What a Stupid decision to kill off Bobby just because Patrick decided he had had enough. When he returned two seasons later, they chose a ridiculous storyline where an entire season/year was all a dream. That storyline also hurt KNOTS LANDING too for a while where Gary was mourning the loss of Brother Bobby.
@tenniscollector It wasn't a stupid decision, Patrick's parents both Mother and Father we're murdered, I believe it was a home invasion, that is why he left. I believe we all would have done the same thing if something that horrible would have happen to us, I know for a fact I would have done the same thing.
@tenniscollector, I saw that, they even had Greg Sumner reference Gary 'attending his brother's funeral in Dallas'.
After Patrick Duffy came back, the producers on Knots Landing permanently broke with being tied to 'Dallas' and Gary really had nothing to do with the Ewings after that.
@InTheKnow2011 I think Patrick only managed to find a role in a mini-series ( starring opposite Pamela Sue Martin) in the year after he left Dallas. Back then he was looking for different roles and tired of the Bobby Ewing "Mr Nice Guy" image.
funny thing about the whole dream season. Pam's hair is cut short and worn in a different style when Bobby dies and is back to normal when she wakes up. I knew hair grows back to normal over time but must have been one hell of a dream for her hair to grow back and change style in a night's sleep. lol
@Restlessi The public was so distressed by the departure of Patrick Duffy that the producers had no choice but to invent something to "ressuscitate" Bobby. You probably don't know this, but the audience was so fond of this show that sometimes there were people who couldn't distinguish between fiction and reality. Larry Hagman (who played J.R.) was threatened several times due to the malicious plots perpretrated by his character and portrayed by him in the show.
@ceci1974girl , I agree here hair is short and a different style in this clip but later she wakes up and it's back to normal and full length. must have been one hell of a dream to change your hair style in one night.
Okay.... That actually makes sense, because she really didn't kill Bobby after all. It was the Dream Season. So She hits Cliff and Cliff cries. " I told you Bobby...I would get you back...somehow, And Cliff ? How dare you do this to Mamma." But Bobby is focused on Mark. Theres something more to this story that Mark is keeping. This is a week before Christophers Wedding. Sue Ellen has been keeping in touch with Dusty who's been keeping tabs on Pam, but She doesn't want Bobby to Know.
@Tom6093 Wow - and what a "lay" it was! Pam nodded off and had the most complex, detailed, multi-faceted dream any sober person ever had! Bobby got Jenna pregnant while screwing her, but he sent Pam into an almost psychedelic fantasy world where Sue Ellen sobered up, Mark returned from the "dead", some Euro-flooze showed up (with co-workers), Cliff became some sap in love with Jamie, Miss Ellie changed faces, Donna miscarried a baby, the Ewings had a rodeo & JR became "nice."
@redletter2008 Lol. Why do you think they called it, " The dream Season ?" Heres my opinion on what really happened to Pam. Yes...She was badly burned, But Mark Graison saved her. But....He lied to her and told Pam, Bobby no longer loves her and that she's better off without the Ewings. Now it's 24-5 years later and she and Mark are somewhere in Colorado on some Ranch. She consistently Pines for Bobby. Mark tries to poison her mind, but theres a glitch. Dusty...con...
@Tom6093 That's actually a good idea - Mark (who is likely not dead) finds Pam after her exit (just like he was watching her after Bobby's "death"). Pam's face could, after repeated surgeries (perhaps using the famed plastic surgeon married to that actess Victoria Principle?) has improved her looks enough to "attempt" a return to see Christopher (who, in the NEW Dallas on TNT gets married at Southfork). She returns to the ranch, pining from a distance, turns around & there stands JR Ewing!
@redletter2008 But that would have to come at the end of the show, where the Yellow ending credits come up. ( Da..Da.. Da.Da. Da ..DDDDDa) Lol. Next show. " Diggers Daughter Returns...Part 2. JR pleads with Pam not to ruin Christophers Wedding. He takes her to the same barn where she fell when she was pregnant and has Mark waiting there. Pam screams and everyone in the Wedding hears her. Christopher apologizes 2 the guests and excuses himself. Bobby ofcoarse follows along...con.
@redletter2008 Mark quickly grabs Pam and heads out the back entrance......Only to see Bobby..RIGHT THERE. Pam sees Bobby and realizes when Mark puts the gun to her head, that her reunion with Bobby and Christopher is screwed. Mark- " Step away Bobby and let us get out of here...She not who you think she is. This isn't Pam. She's a look alike. Pams dead. She just wants the Ewing money ...Thats all"
But Bobby knows Pam. He knows everything about her.
@redletter2008 " Mark Let her go...Please.........." Theres a gun shot.. There standing behind Mark is Sue Ellen and Dusty. Pam rushes to Bobby and cries like crazy. Mark is dead, with a shot in back of the head.
Christopher sees his mom for the first time since he was 8 yrs old and runs too her. Jr. comes out from the barn and says. " Oh thank God Bobby......Pam ?"
Pam shreiks at JR. - " You were in on this you SOB. You hired an actress to play me, while I was kidnapped by mark
@redletter2008 ....con... " It was all a lie Bobby, I never wanted to leave you" Cliff- Pam ? He runs up and holds his sister and looks at JR> " JR... If she's right and you were behind all this, I'll come after you worse then ever before" JR- " Pam.... I always wanted you back here at Southfork, Why would I want you..............
Bobby interupts JR. and goes in to attack him. " Shut up JR. I will make you wish YOU WERE DEAD. ( Pertaining to his attempted suicide in 91.)
@Tom6093 The new Dallas should have Bobby having lunch with Sue Ellen & Cliff at the Oil Baron's Club. In walks in a white haired Mark Graison. He says to the shocked trio "oh, meet the new Mrs. Mark Graison" and in saunters Katherine Wentworth Graison. Together they will merge Graisco & Wentworth Industries & vow to destroy Ewing Oil, the Ewings & Cliff Barnes. Katherine should go to "hug" Cliff, then belts him in the face for selling the company mama gave him - Barnes Wentworth. Cliff cries.
@redletter2008 ...Dusty sees whats going on and calls Cliff. Cliff if you watched the last movie no longer owns Ewing Oil or West Star. He gave it all up to go find his daughter. Anyway Cliff is floored when he hears. Cliff tells Sue Ellen that Dusty got a hold of him about Pam. She doesn't believe Dusty or Pam are alive and thinks it's some twisted game that JR is playing. Lol. Ofcoarse JR doesn't know what he's in for with Sue Ellen. They get Pam, Episode - DIGGERS DAUGHTER RETURNS
Biggest mistake killing Bobby on screen like this we saw him die and the seed was planted in our heads, if only we knew a shower scene could ruin all of that for us.
