Do you soak them before dehydrating or did you just dehydrate then soak right before eating? and What if you want to store them in the shell? do you dehydrate them in the shell then soak when you crack them? or can you soak them in the shell before dehydrating ? if you shell and dehydrate and soak, do you have to re-dehydrate before storing them? or does it always go shell, soak, then dehydrate?
I was all excited to begin my raw food diet, but the more I read about nuts and seeds the more depressed I became. No-one has a real clue on how long to soak them to make them safe, and even if you figure that out, most nuts and seeds have way too many Omega 6's. You would have to pop Omega 3 pills all day long to prevent your body from developing and unhealthy Omega 6 to Omega 3 ratio. Too may of the 6s have been linked to disease. Trying to eat healthy is a lot of work!
I read that eating unsoaked nuts and seeds can lead to pancreatic cancer. You need to soak them to remove the inhibitors and the phytic acid, but everywhere you turn no-one seems to know for sure how long. Everyone is just guessing. I read somewhere that before the inhibitors even begin to break up, you need 36 hours, but this is more conjecture. Aren't there any definitive studies?
This is the best informational video I have found on soaking nuts...thank you for explaining these things in such a way that very few questions remain!...except one - if I freeze the nuts, when I take them out for my weekly supply, what do I do then? Do I thaw at room temp then place them in the fridge in water as per non-freezing and follow the steps mentioned...i.e. changing water every day?
I was wondering, how do I store seeds for sprouting for long term storage, I was hoping a 6 month to 1 year time, is mylar and freezer a posibilty ? thx
I dont know why no one has commented about soaking walnuts...I soaked unshellled walnuts yesterday for 7 hours...They taste like crap....No taste at all...The taste of the walnut is gone...???? WHy would I soak my walnuts if they are gonna taste bland flavorless....DId i do something wrong
Hi, i've been trying to peel off hazelnut, but all i find on internet is to roast first, or boilling... and that will take the good enzymes out of it. So how can i peel off hazelnuts and keep all the nutrients?
I just bought a bag of fresh, unshell wlanuts and notices something while cracking them...it is almost impossible to get them to not get partially crushed while cracking them. To remove the enzyme inhibitors by soaking, do they have to be perfect walnut halves or can they be slightly to moderately damaged halves?
I suggest you get a new camera so that you can upload at 1280*720 res to trigger HD, and by doing that the 380 and 480 vid res on youtube also become much clearer too
I'm confused. Hulled v. Unhulled. I called "hulled" - shells taken off, "unhulled" shells still on. However, I believe it's the other way around?!?! What is it? (Seriously, I need this answered. I want to purchase some hemp seeds and can't tell from the description if hulled is shell on or off! I ordered sunflower seeds thinking hulled meant unshelled and I got shell on seeds!!!)
I never have soaked hemp seeds. I just use them the way they are. Trying to stay from nuts and seeds as much as possible since I have a problem with overeating when I have them.
Perfect timing!!! I've been afraid of chia seeds until today. I just had chia pudding with almond milk and vanilla extract. Who knew they were so yummy!? Thank you!
Just the info I needed. Thank you, much love

Thank you for those tips. I am a nut fan and have often wondered why my stomach reacts so differently to them from time to time.

@giantsfan245 They can be broken.

I love raw Walnuts but since they are most likely to come shelled, they won't sprout, so how does soaking get rid of the enyme inhibitors?
