I like the song because it exposes the "fakeness" of Hollywood stars... not just Ashlee Simpson. Ever notice how bad some of the popular singers/bands are live? Sometimes they don't even sing... just get out and dance around like a bunch of idiots while the audience sings for them.
it's called putting on a show, comanding a crowd. I think that rappers are the most fake of all, they "sing" 30 seconds of a song which mostly comprises of them saying "ay" to a recorded overdub.

Here's what kind of talent this band has: Simple structures with "decent" instrumentation, their strongest point being catchy vocal/melody progressions. So, why not enjoy it. They're not brilliant, but they don't "suck" in my opinion.
