@TDoginNC Well that sounds more like it. I only have evidence of the gen III GM motors being short-lived. With Jeep I only have their own 1999 press release to go by and one fella who said "it won't last mate". The Grand Limited I'm looking at is beautiful. The many, many extra's all work and the leather looks perfect. It's at 230,000k's. It's good to hear your report though and I'm busily looking for more like it because this jeep is so sweet and I just want it.
@MrMightyZ Lots of good info and reports from Jeep owners at the jeepsunlimited forums. You'll want the WJ subforum under Grand Cherokees. Good Luck.
I really wanted to buy one of these second hand but apparently the motors have a short life. Unbelievably dodge chrysler announced when the 4.7 was released that it "would operate for 240,000 k's" here in australia some folks'll do that in five years. Disgraceful. The gen III chev is even worse often pegging out befor 200,000. Is this acceptable in the U.S.?
@MrMightyZ Not sure about those ratings, doesn't sound correct ... I've got 316,000 Miles on mine now and it's still doing fine ... and everyone that I know that owns one, loves it ...
My 99 is starting to do it. Changed everything except AC and fan clutch. Run it with the ac on full blast, then turn it off and see if you hear a difference. Could just be a pulley.
Hard to make out because I can't use the sense of feel around the engine. Or a very long screwdriver to listen with. At first it sounded like the fan was hitting the guard but I see you discovered it was the Alt.
Im at 276,000 on my 97 laredo. My a/c pulley bearings roaring... Need to change it
