I see the point. However, you can quantify carbon emission and carbon conservation. You can not quantify emotional pain, its a qualitative, irreparable, non substitutable type of thing.

If you monetarily support the planting of a tree which consumes 'x' number of tons of carbon dioxide that otherwise would not have been planted, in my mind, it justifies the 'x' amount of carbon that you emitted.

This video is good, and the idea is good, however, it is misleading.

oh wow i've never thought of carbon offsetting in that manner. it's a very intelligent approach. i think before i was sort of ho-hum about the policy, but now it's like, that makes absolutely no sense to pay someone else off for doing something bad. very very good =)
