1.how the hell did he do that jump without falling into the pit 2. How the hell dose he keep hanging upside down for that long and 3. The scene always makes me cry It is so amazing one of the best things I have ever seen in the west end x
one of the greatest scenes ever written both in musical theatre and theatre as a whole. Inspirational. I played Marius in an ametur production of Les Mis and myself and the "students" all agreed there was no point trying to do les mis if you couldn't get this scene right.
I think the dead Enjolras we see hanging from the barricade is a dummy... I watched the show yesterday (with Ramin Karimloo as Valjean XD XD XD) and the dead Enjolras looked, well, like a dummy.
@AlienMidget123 He looks like one but I don't think he is... I went to watch this show a year ago, with Killian Donnelly as Enjolras, and he kept twitching lol. I dunno, maybe it's changed since last year but I'd never seen such an animate dead Enjolras! :)
Enjolras used to hang from the barricade in a much more dignified way (remember that most of the audience is looking down at him in his tight trousers with his legs open....)
@anon0987654 I've watched this very scene from various angles in the auditorium and it always looked dignified and at the same time appropriately shocking and touching so I have no idea what you're talking about.

@LegsandJump I'm not saying it was particularly undignified I just mean that he uesed to have his legs together and looser trousers whereas now from the angle I was watching from it was slightly undignified although it is definitely appropriately touching and shocking. I didn't mean any offence in my comment, I think the way he hangs now is much more effective in making him look vulnerable and creating sympathy from the audience.
Whenever I see 'The Jump' all I have going through my mind is "I believe I can fly! I believe I can touch the sky!" haha. Or another one is "Tell them how I am defying gravity!!"
@Surshi24 No, of course you don't! It's pretty much as it sounds though. When Marius is wounded and falls then David Thaxton's Enjolras literally jumps off the barricades instead of just climbing down after him. It's quite the distance and his legs pedal in midair.
good lord, look at that man jump. it would have been terrifying/hilarious if he missed and landed in the orchestra pit

@bellagray421 ... nevermind he can actually sing the part as well (and doesn't crack on the 'is free') and has the character down perfectly...

So THAT'S the infamous jump. Good Lord, how did he never a) hurt himself or b) jump into the pit?

The jump - and the 'earth is free' line from David's Enjolras are just amazing! Surely he is one of the best ever!
