Hey Jason, it's Brad. Met you on the River right before Thanksgiving and you told me to go to the website that tells you how to preserve the skulls. I did and my skulls are now preserved. Thanks! Good hunting in the future!
B. Bison bison is what you found from the looks of it. Making it about 5000B.P. to modern times. It is always hard to name bison skulls. Antiquus has very long horns that come off the sides of the skull and form a "T". Antiquus horn span for males is from about 30"- 36". Occidentals has large horns that come the skull in a "Y". Occidentalis horn spans are from about 26"- 32" on males. The skull you have if it is under 26" from horn tip to tip is B. Bison. The same "Y" pattern is in B. Bison now.
Agree with "acenchief"; its a "modern" buffafo skull. They came into being ~ 8,000 years ago, so this specimen could be up to that age or a lot less. It may or may not fall apart after leaving the water and drying out in time...which may depend on whether any water bourne mineralization bone replacement has started. If it seems like a "rock" solid specimen that indicates a greater age.
Nice find! Looks like a bison bison buffalo skull to me. Antiquous bison's horns go straight out where this one curves a little. Definately old though, I'm guessing three to five thousand years

That is a very nice bison skull. If the wife insists, you can ship it to me. Address available upon request. I'll even cover the shipping!

I could be totally wrong in my previous comment. either way it is cool. If your wife won't let you keep it you can donate it to my collection. :)

Hey mount it on the wall like a trophy? I'm sure your wife will like that...wait...mine would probably say mount it out of sight! lol
Have you taken it to your university they might be able to tell you how old it is?
