You really have to be careful with these things. They are made as cheaply as possible with the cheapest of components. And cheap components do make a difference.
What will kill you is the battery, again very cheap, may not take a charge in two months and they are not user replaceable.
I just got mine and build quality is good. It plays most video formats. You not only read pdf files, but epub, mobi and html. Does not read excel, word or power points.
Plays the majority music formats. I got mine on ebay for under 50 pounds.
Great as a bargian ebook reader. The audio output could be better though.

@TEDdotcom the literati has had terrible review though, when it was first released it was 159.99 then it got some major price drops... but idk too many specifics about it, but i know that this e-reader is also available at Deal extreme for the same price as Dhgate and has quite a few features form what i have seen on both websites
@KloudyBoy: All the inital problems of the Literati were addressed and fixed with the most recent update. Updated to the most recent Literati software version (2.0, r23523, Jan. 19 2011). No slowdowns, and no bugs.
If it weren't for the regular Literati software updates (almost once a month), I would've returned my Literati to Best Buy within a week.

@joeart88 Yes it does actually have an excellent viewing for pdf files. You can either choose Landscape mode or Portrait mode for viewing pdf files.
