@sbcistheboss I first heard them in 2009. My friend was playing Kotov syndrome on his ipod. I went online and listened to the whole album The Sufferer and the Witness and loved it. They quickly became my favorite band. After a few months I started liking their more hardcore albums. :)

The lead singer Greg Graffin, stated that he was a "naturalist", meaning he does believe in faith, but only in things you know. Brett Gurewitz is a deist (Believes of a creator, but says that it doesn't believe it intervenes with us), and Jay Bently has his beliefs, they aren't anti-theist.

If you take a hard look at their songs, you can see that they're saying the world would be better without religion, but instead follow your own beliefs. I would also say, that they disagree with people that force their religious views on others. I've only known about them for 4 months, so I can't say much.

@sbcistheboss I've known them for 2 years, and have copies of many of their recordings. With bands such as Them, Rise Against, Crass, and others that put meaning into their music, I usually do look at their lyrics very closely. But yes they are saying that you should follow what you want to believe in, but they use religion as a metaphor for many of the things that are oppressive, since much of it has become oppressive. And yes i agree that they do disagree with the religious oppressors.
