Hermosa obra del maestro Johan Sebastian Bach, pero no puede ser que en un evento tan refinado como éste, una chica tenga goma de mascar en la boca! Increíble pero cierto!!! (minuto 4:26)
Surely the most amazing recording this incredibly difficult piece. Reinhold Friedrich is more than a modern Maurice Andre. His mastery is far beyond anything we have heard being played on the trumpet so far.
amazing preformane, Reinhold Friedrich is a legend. the way he plays it, so musical, so free and so natural with his beuatiful sound on the piccolo trumpet, and the high F in the end, as a trumpeter I can only say one big bravo, and of course great abbado. just perfect, it is the best preformence ever.
Much as I do not disagree withe the comments on the playing of the piccolo trumpet.. we have the finest recorder virtuoso in recorded history. So what a mix.
Play a Bach fugue on the piano--there is very little overlapping of voices. Well, now and then maybe. When unavoidable. But by and large bass, tenor, alto, soprano--they all stay in their range. But the Brandenburgs--hey! the rules change!. Voices cross, intermingle, weave in and out--wonderful! wonderful!
@FlyHigh1987 I can testify to the fact that, for the most part, the voices in a "typical" Bach piece do not overlap. Although, contributing to this is that there is often not all four voices, often only two or three.
Thanks altsys13 - you are right. I asked Eric Aubier, the well-known French trumpeter, and he confirmed too on C trumpet - apparently a prototype or special Reinhold had someone build for him. As you say, most fluid and perfect phrasing when playing this terribly difficult piece made to look so easy. It must however be easier to play in the key of F than in G on the B flat piccolo. I like the look of his "long form" trumpet too. Most elegant !
I love how, ending the encore, Reinhold cannot resist the trumpeter's natural urge to be the center of attention, and ends on the high tonic! I'm a fellow player of that instrument (albeit miles behind), so he's a man after my own heart... Yet he's so classy, staunchly in service to Bach's music; and I could not respect any trumpet player more.
@MsJune999 I think there is a recorder which plays treble clef (higher) and one that plays bass clef (lower notes). The most common is the higher one. And seems from this recording, she is playing the higher one.
Great performance. Trumpet playing is great, but Michala is amazing on the recorder. She is playing a modern alto of somekind though, with keys. Does anyone know anything about the recorder she plays?

What extraordinary piccolo trumpet playing. No brute strength here: all sensitive and beautiful musical expressiveness. And an even more amazing encore!!
This looks to be the best Brandenburg concerto on web...this part surely! Very beautiful! (on living is concert maybe little different, cameras also makes some effects). Very beautiful! Whole! Perfect!
When someone would be interested in opinions of all especially negative people there would go people to psychiatry... Art is highly positive sphere and so it is perfect as it is! Also Mona Lisa and famous pictures has mistakes! They are interesting!
I only think that sounder little pressed lower sound plus through microphone of alto or sopranino as is not enough heard and I as recorder was angry on this, because I wish to listen recorder, sounder problem. Balance between oboe and recoder...so I deleted comments therefore... I do not like no evil comments as I never listen anyone as art is art. I alone do not listen people and their negativism and so this is perfect on this side! With negativism nobody ever progress, but stopped to play...
When I downloaded sheet from internet there was sopranino in original, so I had to play oboe and I thought is is little strange, but it is nice! In original is sopranino and I could not play it by sopran recorder...
el cuello del oboista no es lo importante, como en Pavarotti tampoco lo eran los kilos; lo importante es el arte interpretativo y algo positivo de arte habrá cuando ese Sr. está donde está.
I wanted only tell that it is nice concert, good harmony among instruments and especially oboe has very nice sound and sounder and rythm...and I enjoy from all famous Navarros and similar variations of this surname comming from our same ancestors, I surely many times....

From the looks of things he is playing in the key of "F" by his fingerings, so it's a "C" piccolo. Amazing playing.
