Just to clear up some confusion I want to make it clear that the apostle Paul was of the view that music, worship, spiritual songs were to be a priority for the Church. Ephesians 5 verses 18-19 instruct the people of the Ephesian church to "...be filled with the Spirit. Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. ". Hope that helps x

@streamskat -- OF course Jesus changes lives, but I certainly do NOT believe everyone who claims such involvement with Jesus is being sincere either... there are many liars gone out into the world who claim to be friends of Jesus and claim a so called TOUCH from Jesus, when all they got was religion and NOT christianity. Satan is very busy in organized religion and confuses people with emotionalism to think they have something from the Holy Spirit when they do not hate the world sin flesh self.

@spiritparaclete I totally agree with you - I am on the mission field here in Central America, and I run into soooo many people who think they are right with God when they are not. Religion has a strong hold here. But that doesn't mean that I want to dump this song and dismiss it as "lukewarm nonsense". Listen to some other things by Godfrey Birtill, such as "Dread God", for instance, and you will find some balance, if that is what you are looking for.

We are in a generation of biblical illiterate people now, and entertainment and the MUSE of music is partly to blame for giving people a FALSE sense of spirituality. Satan is NOT at war with art, music and philosophy.

Sadly, he has control of much of it, and that's partly because Christians back away and let him have it. Music comes from God!! You would be amazed at how much importance God places upon it just in the Bible. I did a study of all of the mentions of "music" and "song" and "sing" in the Bible. Wow.

It also reveals some consequenses of this that give us guidelines that are different from God's law in the old testament.
