I would have rebuilt this 305 and used it as a back-up engine, go .030 over on the bore, use the same 350 crank if you can re-use it, but I would go with a nodular iron crank, and you'll get some pretty decent power. The 305 with the most power was the LB9 with Tuned Port Injection, rated at 200hp, the Q-Jet carbureted L69 H.O. was rated at 190, like I said, go .030 on the bore, 64cc 350 heads, cam, intake, Holley or Edelbrock carb, and that 305 will wake up and come alive. LOL, for real...

@bradbullock4 265, 283, and 262...produced in that order. the 283 produced 283 horsepower in 1957.....the 305 peoduced 160 horsepower on fuel injection in 1987......nobody likes the 305
@89S10BlazerProject 265, 283, 262, 302.....chevy produced all of those displacements as smallblocks...and the 262 was the only one that put out less power than the 305
@Texassince1836 267 from the late 70's/early 80's made 120 horsepower. 3.5" bore with the 350 crank. Only came with a half Quadrajet 2 barrel carb. The last couple of years of the 307 only did 115 horses 283 block/327 crank built up ones can do double that 115 horsepower.

Not to mention that they are not made to drive as fast as we do, because we got way higher speedlimits while americans, who want to drive from the east to the west coast, never die in a car accident, but from old age, because it takes years at those deadly slow speedlimits in most states. Now v8's are nice, but the cars that surrounds them, suck.

@philthyco Chevy and Olds both had a 307 but based on their respective blocks. The Chevy 307 was never high perf but the Olds one made up to 180 horses in the later 80's 442.
The best use of a GM 305 I've ever seen. Don't really know what GM was thinking when they designed a less than 3 3/4 bore V8. These things are boat anchors, and it's great that you raised that kind of money for make a wish!

the reason that they use american engines is because they blow up in 40 seconds,
while european engines take minutes to blow up, witch is pretty boring to watch.
also, european engines do stil start after a few minutes after being blown up, something you won't see with american engines.

Why not put that engine in a car that's worth a damn, give it to the parents of the kids they cannot provide for, so maybe they can get to work and provide? I dabble with motors along side people much more skilled than I. Out respect for the original craftsmanship, and motors in general, I would tell someone to "you know what," if they ever presented an idea such as this. Shame on you if you're an engine builder.

chevy did make a 307 it was the 327 crank in a 283 block if im not mistaken.. it was a tuff mother also!

@melon5me It was STILL a good motor for somebody out there. It sounded like it ran alright for a little while enough to be rebuilt. How about doing a dyno pull and have people guess what it will produce? That sounds like a better way to raise money if that's what you're doing it for. But what do I know...

i have received many e-mails about this my last american experiences were a 1998 ford escort it blew up the first time at 198.000 which is o.k but my last was a Chrysler sebring that blew up at 45.000 with NO help from Chrysler so until they build motors in the USA like they used too 1955-1977i will shop all markets for my driving needs i have a 86 Isuzu with 330.000 miles on it i have a 92 sentra with 288.000 when the usa can match ill be back REMEMBER CHEVY 305s suck

i have commented here before and got alot of shit for what i said truth is the 350 4 bolt was a good motor but the 305 was a throw away motor all american cars and trucks have been good in the past i had a 72 ford f100 with a built 428&a 78 pontiac grand lemans350 both ran like striped ass apes i also had a 55 Chevy coupe with a 327 ran nice
i had a 62 Willy with a 231 buick that ran great i had a 69 dodge charger with a 318 great car 305S STILL SUCK BUY JAPANESE IT LASTS

@Japansie thats because they put rev limiters on those little motors, not only that there is no telling weather they had oil in that motor, but don't get me wrong, I've been impressed by a honda before but there is nothing wrong with an American v8 either.

@philthyco Chevy and Olds both had a 307 but based on their respective blocks. The Chevy 307 was never high perf but the Olds one made up to 180 horses in the later 80's 442.

The best use of a GM 305 I've ever seen. Don't really know what GM was thinking when they designed a less than 3 3/4 bore V8. These things are boat anchors, and it's great that you raised that kind of money for make a wish!
